Infobip Research Reveals Surge in UK Brands' Adoption of RCS

Business Wire6 hours ago

LONDON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Global cloud communications platform Infobip has released its latest Messaging Trends Report, which reveals that the adoption of Rich Communication Services (RCS) messaging has skyrocketed, transforming the customer experience landscape.
James Stokes, Head of Enterprise, UK & Nordics at Infobip, commented: 'With RCS adoption accelerating and AI transforming customer interactions, 2025 is set to be a pivotal year for conversational messaging.'
Share
Infobip analysed more than 530 billion interactions on its platform between businesses and consumers in 2024 to identify the latest business messaging trends. The data suggests Apple's support for RCS, following its iOS 18 update in late 2024, contributed to a 65% increase in UK RCS traffic.
UK businesses have embraced the channel for highly engaging, two-way customer interactions. Infobip's data shows that the increase in RCS usage is part of increasingly omnichannel approaches, with UK brands leveraging it alongside SMS, Voice & Video and WhatsApp for a seamless customer journey.
James Stokes, Head of Enterprise, UK & Nordics at Infobip, commented: 'RCS is taking off because it works. The branded and verified experience reduces hesitation, while rich visuals capture attention and drive engagement. In A/B tests, RCS rich cards delivered up to 70% higher conversion rates than MMS. More significantly, RCS has driven conversion rates two to three times higher, and sometimes even ten times higher, than standard marketing channels.'
The UK is the largest European market utilising the Infobip platform, growing by almost a third (31.7%) from 2023 to 2024. Companies in the wholesale communications services sector represent the largest segment, followed by telecoms and technology & software companies.
The Messaging Trends Report has revealed that as UK brands refine their customer engagement strategies, WhatsApp has emerged as a significant channel for conversational marketing, where the channel's growth has surpassed the growth of SMS and email. Infobip recorded a 392% increase in marketing messages sent over WhatsApp in the UK, driven by new features enabling seamless purchases within a single chat. This was accompanied by a 12x increase in conversational marketing messages, with majority being over WhatsApp. The platform also saw significant growth in other chat apps like Telegram, Line, and Viber.
Globally, Infobip saw a 30% increase in the number of brands orchestrating conversational marketing interactions with their customers on its platform.
AI adoption has also increased, according to data from Infobip's AI Hub. AI-powered chatbots and automation are being widely adopted, particularly in finance and insurance, where security and compliance are paramount. Businesses increasingly use AI for personalized interactions, fraud prevention, and real-time customer support.
James Stokes added: 'With RCS adoption accelerating and AI transforming customer interactions, 2025 is set to be a pivotal year for conversational messaging. '

Betrayal or inevitability? Meta is putting ads in WhatsApp

Happy Tuesday! If you're getting your news here instead of from social media, you're now in the minority — and we appreciate it. Send news tips to: Betrayal or inevitability? Meta is putting ads in WhatsApp. More than a decade after it acquired WhatsApp, Meta will begin showing ads within the app. The move, announced Monday, could unlock a massive new revenue stream for the social networking giant. It also risks turning off some users and drawing scrutiny from regulators. WhatsApp's founders had taken a strong anti-advertising stance before they sold the company in 2014. 'Remember, when advertising is involved you the user are the product,' co-founder Jan Koum wrote in a 2012 blog post titled, 'Why we don't sell ads.' Instead, WhatsApp charged users $1 each to download the app — a practice Facebook discontinued in 2016. Koum stayed on to lead WhatsApp until 2018, when he left Facebook (now Meta) after reportedly butting heads with the company's leaders over user privacy. Still, Facebook kept WhatsApp ad-free until now — longer than many industry observers had expected, given the pressure the company faced to show that its purchase of the app was worth it. In the meantime, WhatsApp has grown into one of the world's largest social networks. WhatsApp may not be as well-known as Facebook or Instagram in the United States, where more people use their cellular service, Apple's iMessage, or its Meta-owned sister app Messenger for personal chats. But it's a dominant messaging app in some of the world's most populous countries, including India and Brazil. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said in April that WhatsApp had surpassed 3 billion users, making it even bigger than Instagram. That's a vast untapped audience for advertising, which is how the company makes most of its money. Recently, WhatsApp has found success with a feature that lets users chat with businesses, for example, to ask about their hours or to place an order. Meta has also been rolling out tools that let advertisers use AI to answer users' questions. Now those businesses will be able to advertise in the app as well. The ads will be limited in scope for now — as will the data Meta uses to target them. In a blog post announcing the move, WhatsApp said the ads will be confined to its 'Updates' tab, which is home to a feed of recent status updates from the public-facing 'channels' a user follows. Brands will be able to promote their channel; charge users to subscribe to exclusive updates; or post an ad as a status update that will appear in followers' feeds. Those ads can include invitations to message the business directly. Like most of Meta's ads, they'll be targeted to users based on data WhatsApp collects about their interests. But WhatsApp will only use 'limited info like your country or city, language, the Channels you're following, and how you interact with the ads you see,' the post explained. In other words, the company won't be targeting ads based on whom a user chats with or the contents of those chats, which will remain private and encrypted. Meta's stock rose by about 3 percent Monday as analysts hailed the potential for a major new revenue stream. While the company has continued to grow in terms of total users across all of its apps, its last quarterly earnings showed slowing ad growth and a drop in the amount of money Meta makes from the average user. As investors cheered the news, some privacy and competition advocates raised concerns. The move drew criticism from the privacy-focused Austria-based nonprofit NOYB, an acronym for None of Your Business, which is chaired by the lawyer and activist Max Schrems. In a statement Monday, Schrems said Meta's move could violate Europe's strict competition and privacy laws if it involves linking users' data across the company's various social networks without their freely given consent. Meta spokesman Joshua Breckman told the Tech Brief that's a misreading of the company's announcement. He said the ads will draw on data from users' Facebook and Instagram accounts only if they 'opt in' to adding their WhatsApp account to Meta's Account Center, where they can set their ad preferences across the various platforms. 'I don't think we could be any clearer what information we're using to show ads — and that is, limited information from WhatsApp,' Breckman said. He added that people who use WhatsApp only for private messaging will not be affected by the changes at all. The move's timing suggested that Meta is feeling confident about the outcome of its landmark antitrust trial. Closing arguments wrapped last month in a trial over the Federal Trade Commission's allegation that Meta holds an illegal monopoly over personal social networking, thanks in large part to its purchases of WhatsApp and Instagram. The FTC is seeking to split those services from the rest of the company. A judge is expected to rule in the case this year. On X, the outspoken antitrust advocate Matthew Stoller implied that the announcement is further evidence of Meta's monopoly power. 'Meta is putting ads in WhatsApp, aka raising prices,' he wrote. On Bluesky, the president of Signal — a nonprofit that prides itself on secure, private messaging — took the opportunity to tout that service as an alternative. 'We promise, no AI clutter, and no surveillance ads, whatever the rest of the industry does,' Meredith Whittaker posted. 10 things to watch in the stock market Tuesday including Israel-Iran conflict and Nvidia

The Club's 10 things to watch Tuesday, June 17 1. Stocks are tracking for a lower open this morning after President Donald Trump left the G7 meeting early, suggesting the conflict between Israel and Iran was intensifying with a call to "immediately evacuate Tehran." 2. Oil prices rose around 1% this morning, in line with the intensification of the Israel-Iran war. Separately, OPEC yesterday trimmed its 2026 global supply growth forecast. The oil cartel revised down its estimate for U.S. supply growth, while keeping its demand outlook unchanged. 3. Barclays raised its price target on Club name Nvidia to $200 a share from $170 and reiterated its overweight buy rating. Analysts sees upside to July quarter revenue versus current estimates following supply chain checks. 4. Club holding Amazon announced that its annual Prime Day even starts on July 8 and will last for 96 hours, double its usual length. Elsewhere, the May retail sales came in weaker-than-expected this morning, but there's still some noise in those numbers after a tariff pull-forward effect in March. 5. Wells Fargo reiterated its overweight buy rating on Club name Meta Platforms , calling the WhatsApp monetization news a positive indicator for the company's next product cycle. As we wrote yesterday for Club members, we're big fans of this long-awaited move for WhatsApp. 6. Morgan Stanley trimmed its price target on Nike to $61 a share from $70 and it's become "slightly more negative" on its hold-equivalent equal weight rating. Analysts aren't seeing positive demand signals and believe innovation is lacking. The good news may simply be how bearish investors already are on the name. 6. Club holding Eli Lilly announced an agreement to acquire Verve Therapeutics , a clinical-stage company working on medicines for cardiovascular disease that use gene editing. The deal could be worth up to $1.3 billion if certain milestones are hit. Lilly and Verve had an existing partnership. 7. Shares of homebuilder Lennar climbed nearly 2% this morning after beating on second-quarter sales but missing on earnings. Co-CEO Stuart Miller said Lennar continues to "see softness in the housing market due to affordability challenges and a decline in consumer confidence" 8. A number of price-target hikes for Olive Garden owner Darden ahead of earnings later this week. Wells Fargo went to $225 a share, citing positive casual dining trends and share gains for the restaurant operator. Bank of America went to $252, and BTIG went to $235. We own Texas Roadhouse in casual dining. 9. Solar stocks are under pressure after the Senate's version of Trump's spending and tax bill included full cuts to solar and wind power tax incentives by 2028. The Invesco Solar ETF is down more than 10% this morning. However, the Senate's bill is more positive for nuclear, hydropower and geothermal energy than the House version. 10. Lenskart is working on filing for an initial public offering in the coming weeks, Bloomberg News reported . The Softbank-backed firm is the largest eyewear maker in India. While Club name Goldman Sachs isn't involved in the deal, per Bloomberg, it's nevertheless a good sign to see more IPO activity around the globe. Adobe Firefly Revolutionizes Creative Ideation with New Mobile App, Multimedia Moodboarding and Expanded AI Models

SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Today, Adobe (Nasdaq:ADBE) extended its leadership in creative ideation with a major expansion of Adobe Firefly – the destination for AI-assisted content ideation, creation and production – bringing Firefly image and video generation to phones. Firefly's new iOS and Android app, available today, gives creators the freedom to explore ideas and generate and edit images and videos from anywhere using AI. Firefly's web and mobile apps serve creators' ideation as a standalone experience and seamlessly sync with Adobe's Creative Cloud applications to enable project continuity and streamline creative workflows from ideation to production. Firefly Boards, available in public beta on the web, transforms how creative teams ideate and collaborate on concepts with the addition of video to its AI-first moodboarding surface, enabling creative professionals to collaboratively explore and iterate across media types with AI-powered video and image editing. Adobe's expanding ecosystem of generative AI models now includes models from Ideogram, Luma AI, Pika and Runway along with image and video models from OpenAI, Google and Black Forest Labs, offering creators unparalleled flexibility to experiment in different aesthetic styles. The Firefly app empowers creators to generate assets across different media types and explore with different AI models from a single destination with unmatched creative control, iterate and collaborate on concepts and seamlessly deliver them into production. For example, creators can generate an image in the style or composition of an uploaded reference image using Style Reference and Structure Reference, edit assets by expanding images and using a brush to remove objects or paint in new ones with Generative Expand, Generative Remove and Generative Fill, experiment with different variations of their creation by mixing and matching models and transform generated images into a video – all without leaving Firefly. They can generate images based on a 3D scene with Scene to Image (beta), generate fully editable vector-based artwork and design templates with simple text prompts written in everyday language and create text effects – and later this month they'll be able to generate avatars and sound effects from text prompts and sync audio and video clips using the sound of their voice. 'Creators continue to impress us with the breadth and artistry of the images, videos, graphics and designs they're dreaming up in the Firefly app using models from both Adobe and our partners,' said Ely Greenfield, Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer. 'Our goal with Firefly is to deliver creators the most comprehensive destination on web and mobile to access the best generative models from across the industry, in a single integrated experience from ideation to generation and editing.' New Firefly Mobile App Now Available on iOS and Android With Firefly mobile, creators have the freedom to easily generate images and videos from anywhere using text prompts (Text to Image, Text to Video), transform images into videos (Image to Video), add or remove objects like people or unsightly road signs from their work (Generative Fill) and extend the size of an image while filling in new areas with AI-generated content (Generative Expand). Creators can explore concepts with Adobe's Firefly family of generative AI models, OpenAI's image generation and Google's Imagen 3 and 4 and Veo 2 and 3. Content created in Firefly is automatically synced with their Creative Cloud account, making it easy to start a project on the mobile app and continue on the web or in desktop apps like Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Premiere Pro. Firefly adds to Adobe's growing ecosystem of mobile apps, which includes Photoshop, Lightroom and Adobe Express. Drawing upon the same underlying technology that powers Adobe's world-class desktop apps, these apps let creators produce pro-caliber content on the go that's ready for use in social content, presentations, printed assets and more. Firefly Boards: AI-First Moodboarding Advances Collaborative Ideation for Creative Teams Firefly Boards, available in public beta, is an entirely new way for creative teams to explore ideas and collaborate on hundreds of concepts at the same time using multiple forms of media. With the addition of video to Firefly Boards' AI-powered moodboarding surface, creative professionals can now remix uploaded video clips and generate new video footage using Adobe's commercially safe Firefly Video Model or with Google's Veo 3, Luma AI's Ray2 and Pika 2.2 text-to-video. In addition to generating images using Firefly models and partners' models, creative teams can also use AI capabilities in Firefly Boards to make iterative edits to images from conversational text prompts using Black Forest Labs' Flux.1 Kontext and OpenAI's image generation capabilities. Firefly Boards can be seen in action here. Unmatched Creative Flexibility with Firefly's Expanding Ecosystem of Generative AI Models Adobe has expanded its Firefly generative AI ecosystem by integrating models from new partners, including Ideogram, Luma AI, Pika and Runway, alongside existing models from OpenAI, Google and Black Forest Labs – providing creators with unprecedented flexibility to explore diverse aesthetic styles and media types. Models from new partners are launching first in Firefly Boards and will soon be accessible across the Firefly app. In April, Adobe brought OpenAI's image generation, Google's Imagen 3 and Veo 2 and Black Forest Labs' Flux 1.1 Pro into its ecosystem. With today's additions, creators now have the flexibility to also choose from Flux.1 Kontext by Black Forest Labs, Ideogram 3.0 by Ideogram, Ray2 by Luma AI, 2.2 text-to-video from Pika, and Gen-4 Image by Runway, and Google's latest Imagen 4 and Veo 3 models. These models are available alongside Adobe's comprehensive family of Firefly models for images, videos, audio and vectors. AI Transparency and Creative Rights with Content Credentials To ensure transparency and protect creators' rights, Firefly automatically attaches Content Credentials to AI-generated content, clearly indicating whether Adobe Firefly models or partner models were used. This empowers creators with more tools and choices to ideate, collaborate, and produce high-quality content seamlessly and with confidence. At Adobe, we take the most creator-friendly approach to AI in the industry, driven by our roots in the creative community and our respect for creators. For more information on our approach, visit: Firefly Momentum Creatives worldwide have used Firefly's generative AI models to create more than 24 billion assets.
