'A Dr. for real reals!! (Okay, honorary)' - Sandra Oh.
Image: Instagram
If you're a millennial like me, the name Sandra Oh immediately conjures up images of the iconic Dr. Cristina Yang from "Grey's Anatomy". Her razor-sharp wit, unflinching confidence and the unforgettable "twisted sisterhood" she shared with Meredith Grey became the gold standard for friendship goals.
Sandra Oh was recently awarded an honorary doctorate from Dartmouth College, joining the Class of 2025 as their commencement speaker.

For many of us, Yang wasn't just a character; she was a phenomenon one we're still chasing in our own lives. But Sandra Oh is far more than just Cristina Yang. And once again, she's proving she's a force to be reckoned with, both on and off-screen. This time, Sandra isn't scrubbing in to save lives in a fictional operating room. She's stepping into the spotlight as a "doctor for real" - well, honorary doctor, but who's counting?
A doctorate and a dream fulfilled
Sandra Oh was recently awarded an honorary doctorate from Dartmouth College, joining the Class of 2025 as their commencement speaker. And while Cristina Yang's medical brilliance was scripted, this moment was all Oh's.
On her Instagram, she celebrated the milestone with her signature humour and humility: "A Dr. for real reals!! (Okay, honorary)' she quipped. The post was accompanied by snapshots of her in a graduation gown, delivering her speech, and even dancing it out with the graduates - a nod to the celebratory spirit her fans know and love.
But what makes this moment even more poignant? Sandra revealed in her speech that she never attended university herself.
"I only played characters who have," she joked. "So thank you for helping fulfil my parents' dream of me actually getting a degree. And a doctorate at that!"
It was a heartfelt acknowledgement of her immigrant parents' aspirations and an emotional full-circle moment for the actress.
Sandra's commencement speech wasn't just a highlight reel of her career or a sentimental "thank you". It was a masterclass in vulnerability, resilience, and growth.
"If you can train yourself not to turn away, but to learn to be with your discomfort, and trust that it might be telling you something you don't yet know," she advised the graduates.
Her words struck a chord, reminding us all that growth often comes from sitting with the uncomfortable moments we'd rather avoid. Of course, she delivered her message with the same wit and charm that made Cristina Yang so beloved.
"When they presented the offer (of giving the speech), I thought, 'Huh, well, that's nice. What a privilege…' And then I thought ABSOLUTELY NOT,"she said, laughing. But, as always, Sandra persevered, turning her initial hesitation into a moment of connection and inspiration.
From Grey's to greatness
Sandra Oh's career is a testament to the power of storytelling. She became a household name thanks to her role as Dr. Cristina Yang, the ambitious cardiothoracic surgeon who made us laugh, cry and believe in the power of unapologetic ambition. Her time on "Grey's Anatomy" from 2005 to 2014 cemented her as one of the most iconic characters in television history. And while Sandra departed from the show over a decade ago, Cristina's legacy lives on.
The 'twisted sisterhood' shared with Meredith Grey that has become a gold standard for friendship goals.

The character is still referenced in the series through calls, letters, and even lingering storylines, keeping fans hopeful for a possible return. Even her former co-star Kevin McKidd (Dr. Owen Hunt) has expressed his desire to see her back on Grey's, stating that they didn't really get a proper goodbye. Sandra, however, seems content to leave that chapter behind.
"I've put that gently aside," she told PEOPLE during a recent interview.
Beyond "Grey's Anatomy", Sandra Oh has continued to captivate audiences with her versatility. From her Emmy-nominated performance in "Killing Eve" to her voice work in animated hits like "Turning Red", she's proven time and time again that her talent knows no bounds, in Hollywood.
So here's to Sandra Oh, a 'Dr. for real reals,' a role model for the ages, and proof that sometimes life imitates art in the most extraordinary ways. And to all the dreamers out there: keep dancing it out.

'I am home': Minnie Dlamini returns to Durban to host afternoon radio slot

Minnie Dlamini has announced her return to Durban and revealed that she will be joining Gagasi FM. Image: Instagram 'My heart lies eGagasini.' These heartfelt words from Minnie Dlamini mark her return to her hometown of Durban. The well-known radio DJ is embarking on an exciting new chapter in her career, having officially joined the popular Durban radio station, Gagasi FM. 'Durban, I'm home for a brand new chapter 🚀,' she expressed. Dlamini, who rose to fame as a presenter, is now the co-host of the weekday drive show, The Gagasi Fastlane, which airs from 3pm to 6pm on weekdays. She made her debut on the station on Tuesday, teaming up with the beloved duo Sphectacula and DJ Naves, affectionately referred to as "The Kings of the Weekend". In a video shared on Instagram, Dlamini announced her homecoming, featuring moments with her son at the beach, enjoying the waves and glimpses of her home. 'Some places never stop calling you back. Where the waves hold your memories and the wind whispers what's next … my heart lies at eGagasini, and that's where I return. Durban, I am home for a brand-new chapter,' she said in the video. Although Dlamini has made a name for herself in Johannesburg, often dubbed the "city of lights", she was born and raised in Durban. Her return to the station follows the departure of Thandi 'Zisto' Mhlongo, who co-hosted The Gagasi Fastlane with Sphe and Naves, before resigning in March after seven years to join East Coast Radio. Dlamini is no stranger to making headlines, having recently been involved in a public dispute with controversial podcaster Macgyver 'MacG' Mukwevho. During an episode of his popular YouTube show, 'Podcast and Chill', Mukwevho made derogatory remarks about Dlamini's breakup with plastic surgeon Dr Brian Monaisa. He questioned her ability to maintain a relationship and made crude comments regarding her hygiene. Video Player is loading. An apology was later issued to her by the attorney of 'Podcast and Chill', but the damage had already been done. Taking the opportunity to address the public discourse surrounding her name, Dlamini expressed her intent to pursue legal action against Mukwevho. She shared her disbelief and pain at how her name, body and dignity had been dragged through the mud due to the vile and humiliating comments made by him.

Young Proteas, Bavuma fanatic can name the whole WTC squad (WATCH)

Nine-year-old Danny Winks is about as passionate a Proteas fan as you're likely to find. This is the most wholesome video you'll see today, and the boy can play, too. Nine-year-old Proteas fanatic Daniel Winks was beside himself with excitement as he waited to get Temba Bavuma's signature at OR Tambo airport. Can you blame him? The Proteas gloriously return to South African soil after winning the World Test Championships against Australia at Lord's. This ends a 27-year trophy drought as far as ICC-sanctioned events go. It's not an exaggeration to suggest that this momentous Proteas success will usher in a new generation of fans. Daniel, however, has been passionately following South African cricket for as long as he could hold a ball. The youngster is a batting all-rounder with best bowling figures of 3/1 off three overs, and his high score is 74 off 44 balls in an U11 game. Daniel plays U9 for Wanderers and the Graham MacMillan High Performance Academy and occasionally for the U9 and U11 South African Cricket Academy sides. Meanwhile, check out the video below where Daniel sends the ball over the ropes for a maximum to bring up his half century. May as well do it in style, right? Nonku and Jojo unfollow each other: could this signal the end of Joku?

The dynamic duo, Nonku Williams and Jojo Robinson, are facing relationship struggles after they'd announced that they would be sisters for life. Image: Instagram In a twist that has left fans of the dynamic duo reeling, Nonku Williams and Jojo Robinson from the hit reality show, "Real Housewives of Durban" have unfollowed each other on social media. Best known as "Joku," the pair's relationship has weathered its fair share of scrutiny over the years. Fans were heartbroken when they realised the pair were no longer following each other on Instagram, especially after the fifth season finale aired last Friday. 'Misunderstandings' These latest developments have led to questions about whether their five-year friendship can withstand the pressures of fame and personal growth. In response to the five-year friendship breakup, Williams spoke to News24 about their strained relationship. She said, "As I've deepened my faith, our paths have diverged. Jojo struggled to understand my spiritual growth and my call to share my faith with others. I believe it's my duty to spread the word about Christ, and I couldn't compromise on that. Unfortunately, our differences led to misunderstandings and blame being placed on others." Video Player is loading. Next Stay Close ✕ In the last episode of the reality show, Williams had also shared that she felt a lack of deeper spiritual connection with Robinson. She stated, "I'm not placing blame but rather recognising that our journeys have taken different turns. I'm focusing on my purpose and relationship with God." Throughout their friendship, Williams and Robinson faced scrutiny over the authenticity and depth of their bond. They were often criticised for being performative and taking sides during cast disputes. The strain in their relationship became evident after Williams announced she would not return to the show or film the reunion. 'Space to breathe' Following this announcement, Robinson posted a cryptic message alluding to the state of their friendship. She wrote, 'This isn't easy for me at the moment, but with the nature of TV, I can't share anything right now. I also don't know anything right now. I would prefer that my friendships be allowed SPACE TO BREATHE. It's a lot, guys. I need to figure things out. I've been in a friendship that has been under constant scrutiny from the public for years. We BOTH need some time and grace, so please allow us both that and don't assume anything right now.' As both women navigate the complexities of their individual journeys, the future remains uncertain for Joku. The question now arises: can a relationship that has flourished under the watchful gaze of reality television survive when the lights go out?
