Husband of woman in fatal KESAS case to be charged soon
KUALA LUMPUR: The husband of a woman who died after being thrown from the van she was riding in on the Shah Alam Highway (KESAS) near the Awan Besar Rest and Treatment (R&R) area heading to Petaling Jaya on May 6 will be charged soon.
Kuala Lumpur deputy police chief Datuk Mohamed Usuf Jan Mohamad said the investigation paper has been referred to the deputy public prosecutor for further action.
'The case is being investigated under Section 304A of the Penal Code for negligently causing death,' he told reporters after attending a blood donation programme in conjunction with the 218th Police Day at the Kuala Lumpur Police Headquarters, here today.
On May 6, a woman was found dead after she was believed to have been thrown from a van on the roadside of KESAS Highway and initial police investigations found that the incident occurred as a result of an argument between the victim and her husband.
Meanwhile, regarding the case of the discovery of a baby boy's body in the Klang River on May 9, Mohamed Usuf said it is still under investigation.

GEORGE TOWN: Three local men and a foreign woman have been arrested in connection with wrongfully confining three Indonesian men. George Town deputy OCPD Supt Lee Swee Sake said the three men, aged 40 to 56, and the woman, aged 40, have been remanded for four days from Wednesday (June 11) to June 14. "We acted upon the case after a foreign man made a police report on Tuesday (June 10) saying his friend had been 'locked up' at an apartment in George Town. "We raided the apartment and rescued three foreign men aged between 28 and 52. "They were okay and healthy," he said in a statement on Wednesday (June 11). "The suspect has been remanded to assist with further investigations," he said. Supt Lee urged the public not to make any speculations about the case as it could affect investigations. A news portal previously reported that the three victims did not know one another, and their passports were held by a suspect under the pretext of securing jobs for them. The trio are believed to have had their feet chained to the window grilles of the apartment.

Ranau civil servant loses RM13,000 in phone scam
RANAU (June 11): A civil servant in her 30s lost RM13,000 after falling victim to a phone scam involving individuals posing as a police officer and a representative from the Ministry of Communications and Digital. Ranau district police chief Superintendent Mursalin Mahmud said the victim received a phone call from an unknown number on May 27. The caller claimed to be from the ministry and alleged that the victim's phone number was being used to spread fake messages related to investments, job offers and gambling. The call was then redirected to another individual who claimed to be a police officer from the Perak Police Contingent Headquarters (IPK). On May 29, the victim was instructed to transfer RM13,000 into an account under the name Muhammad Azlan, allegedly for the purpose of 'account protection.' 'The scammers also demanded that the victim send photos and personal information every three hours as a form of self-reporting,' Mursalin said. After realising she had been scammed, the victim lodged a police report at the Ranau police station on June 10. The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for fraud. 'I urge the public not to panic if they receive suspicious calls from individuals claiming to be police officers or representatives of government agencies,' Mursalin advised. 'Do not disclose personal information such as bank account details or identification documents, and never carry out financial transactions based solely on phone instructions.' He also reminded the public to verify any such calls with the nearest police station or district police headquarters and remain alert to the tactics used by fraud syndicates to avoid becoming victims.

July 23 decision on Kolej Vokasional Lahad Datu murder case
TAWAU: The High Court today postponed to July 23 its decision on the case involving 13 male students of Kolej Vokasional Lahad Datu, who are jointly charged with the murder of their college mate Mohamad Nazmie Aizzat Mohd Narul Azwan, last year. The verdict, initially scheduled for today, was postponed to allow for clarification related to the submissions, according to deputy public prosecutor, Nur Nisla Abdul Latif. She said that both prosecution and defence had filed their written submissions. The prosecution had filed a total of 366 pages of written submission. 'The defence team, comprising eight lawyers, has also filed their submissions,' she told reporters at the High Court, here, today. On May 14, High Court Judge Datuk Duncan Sikodol had set today to decide on the Mohamad Nazmie Aizzat murder case. However, a notice issued by the High Court yesterday (June 10) informed parties of the rescheduling. On Feb 28, Duncan ordered the 13 teenagers, aged 16 to 19, to enter their defence on the charge of murdering Mohamad Nazmie Aizzat, 17, in the dormitory rooms 7 Resak and 5 Belian at the Lahad Datu Vocational College, between 9pm on March 21 and 7.38am on March 22, 2024. They were charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, read together with Section 34 of the same Code which carries the death penalty, or up to 40 years' imprisonment and not more than 12 strokes of the cane, if convicted. The defence proceedings began on March 10, with 18 witnesses, including all 13 accused, called to testify. The prosecution had earlier opened its case on Nov 19 last year, calling 25 witnesses, including students and teachers from the vocational college. Apart from Nur Nisla, the prosecution team also includes DPPs Ng Juhn Tao and Batrisyia Mohd Khusri. Eight of the students were represented by lawyers Datuk Ram Singh, Kamarudin Mohmad Chinki and Chen Wen Jye, while five others were represented by lawyers Mohamed Zairi Zainal Abidin, Abdul Ghani Zelika, Vivian Thien, Jhesseny P. Kang and Kusni Ambotuwo.
