KUALA LUMPUR: Several routes along the New Pantai Expressway (NEP) and Sungai Besi Expressway (BESRAYA) will be temporarily closed from early Sunday morning for the IJM Allianz Duo Highway Challenge 2025 run. Kuala Lumpur acting police chief Datuk Mohamed Usuf Jan Mohamad said an estimated 13,000 runners will compete in the seventh edition of the race, which will start and end in front of the Sunway Pyramid shopping centre. The Aug 3 race comprises four categories - 42.195 kilometres (km) full marathon; 21km half-marathon; 10km and 5km. He added that full marathon participants will race along both major expressways, beginning by heading towards Templer and Kuchai Lama before turning back to the starting point at Sunway Pyramid. 'The affected routes on BESRAYA include Kuchai Lama, Sungai Besi, Salak Selatan, Plaza Tol Loke Yew, Jalan Istana, Jalan Cheras, Pandan Indah, Maluri, Jalan Pandan 1 and the Middle Ring Road 2 (MRR2). 'The affected routes on the NPE include the Kampung Pasir interchange, Pantai Sentral Park, Kuchai Maju, Sungai Besi and the Kuchai U-turn,' he said in a statement today. Muhamed Usuf Jan advised the public to plan their journey, use alternative routes and comply with instructions from police personnel on duty along the race route. 'Police personnel and highway traffic staff will ensure smooth traffic flow and safety during the event. Any inconvenience caused is regretted, and the cooperation from all parties is appreciated,' he said. Meanwhile, according to the race website the 42km run is slated to begin at 3 am; the 21km run at 5 am; the 10km run at 5.30 am; and the 5km run at 6.50 am. - Bernama

KUALA LUMPUR: The Sungai Besi Expressway (Besraya) and New Pantai Expressway (NPE) will be closed and traffic diverted this Sunday for the IJM Allianz Duo Highway Challenge 2025. Acting city police chief Mohamed Usuf Jan Mohamad said the event, now in its seventh edition, will begin on the NPE and involve over 13,000 runners. The main event is the full marathon, covering 42.195km. This year's race will use both the NPE and Besraya highways. "In addition to the full marathon, there will be 21km, 10km and 5km races. All categories will start and finish in front of Sunway Pyramid, Petaling Jaya. Runners will head towards Templer and Kuchai Lama before returning to the starting point," Usuf said in a statement today. Usuf added that only full marathon participants will run across both highways. "The public is advised to plan their journeys, use alternative routes, and follow traffic personnel instructions. Police and highway marshals will ensure smooth traffic flow and safety throughout the event. We apologise for any inconvenience and appreciate the public's cooperation," he said. KUALA LUMPUR: Police raided a call centre, suspected of promoting online gambling, concealed as an office on the 23rd floor of a building on Jalan Kia Peng, yesterday. Acting Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Mohamed Usuf Jan Mohamad said 13 people were arrested, including eight local men, three local women, and two Chinese nationals. The raid, which began at noon, was part of an ongoing 'Op Dadu' operation, carried out by the Kuala Lumpur Vice, Gambling and Corrupt Practices Crime Investigation Division (D7) in collaboration with the Dang Wangi district police headquarters "The call centre targeted the Indonesian market, employing workers with monthly salaries ranging from RM3,000 to RM4,000," he said, adding that 14 computer sets, two laptops, Wi-Fi modems, routers, and an attendance machine were seized during the raid. Police believe the syndicate had been operating since early April with daily working hours from 11am to 8pm. All suspects are being investigated under the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953 and Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63, with a remand application expected today. — BERNAMA
