Local trio, foreign woman detained for holding three men against their will
GEORGE TOWN: Three local men and a foreign woman have been arrested in connection with wrongfully confining three Indonesian men.
George Town deputy OCPD Supt Lee Swee Sake said the three men, aged 40 to 56, and the woman, aged 40, have been remanded for four days from Wednesday (June 11) to June 14.
"We acted upon the case after a foreign man made a police report on Tuesday (June 10) saying his friend had been 'locked up' at an apartment in George Town.
"We raided the apartment and rescued three foreign men aged between 28 and 52.
"They were okay and healthy," he said in a statement on Wednesday (June 11).
Supt Lee said during the raid, they arrested three men and a woman who were involved in the case.
"Their role was to look after the victims at the apartment.
"The case is being investigated under Section 344 of the Penal Code for wrongful confinement for a period of ten days or more.
"The suspect has been remanded to assist with further investigations," he said.
Supt Lee urged the public not to make any speculations about the case as it could affect investigations.
A news portal previously reported that the three victims did not know one another, and their passports were held by a suspect under the pretext of securing jobs for them.
The trio are believed to have had their feet chained to the window grilles of the apartment.

Earlier, it was reported that the Perak State Education Department had directed the district education office to prepare a full report on the teacher's social media post. Perak state executive councillor for education, higher learning, youth and sports Khairudin Abu Hanipah was quoted as saying that investigations found the Facebook account to belong to a teacher serving at a secondary school in the state. The teacher sparked controversy after posting an offensive remark that went viral and caused distress to the victims' families. On Monday, a bus carrying 42 UPSI students was travelling from Jertih, Terengganu, to the university's main campus when it collided with a Perodua Alza at KM53 of the East-West Highway in Gerik. Thirteen died at the scene, while two others succumbed to their injuries in hospital. Food delivery driver critically injured in bus collision after running red light
JOHOR BARU: A 20-year-old food delivery rider was critically injured after he ran the red light and got hit by a factory bus in Pasir Gudang here. Seri Alam OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Sohaimi Ishak said the accident occurred at the junction of Jalan Masai Kong Kong and Jalan Berlian 12 at around 6pm on Thursday (June 12). 'The bus was travelling straight towards Masai from Kong Kong when the traffic light turned green at the junction. 'Suddenly, the motorcyclist emerged from Jalan Berlian 12, despite the traffic light on his side still being red, and the 54-year-old bus driver could not brake in time,' he said in a statement. 'After the bus rammed into the food delivery rider, he was dragged under the bus for about 15m before it came to a complete stop,' said ACP Mohd Sohaimi. He added that the motorcyclist, who was severely injured, was rushed to Hospital Sultan Ismail for emergency treatment. 'The victim is still unconscious and is being treated in the red zone of the hospital,' he said, adding that the bus driver was unhurt in the accident. The case is being investigated under Section 43 (1) of the Road Transportation Act 1987. ACP Mohd Sohaimi urged road users to obey traffic rules and regulations to avoid accidents from occurring. He also called on witnesses to cooperate with the police by channelling information regarding the accident by calling the district hotline at 07-3864 222 or by heading to the nearest police station.

Judge Afidah Abdul Rahman also ordered Indonesian nationals Andriyanto, 33, Wisnu Zaeni Malik, 21, Udin, 26, Rendi Farizi, 31, Ricky Muhamad Hakim, 22, and Rudi Ramli, 40, to be referred to the Immigration Department upon their release for deportation. The six were charged under Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63, punishable under Section 15(4) of the same Act, which provides for a fine not exceeding RM10,000 or imprisonment for up to five years, or both, upon conviction.
