Box Office: Coolie and War 2 ensure a bumper opening weekend in India; Rajinikanth, Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR contribute Rs 430 crore in 4 days

Coolie and War 2 are the two latest releases of Indian cinema. While the Rajinikanth starrer is performing well, the latter is struggling to gain the much-needed traction. Since both movies were released on Thursday, they enjoyed a 4-day extended opening weekend. However, exhibitors are happy as both Independence Day releases have brought audiences back to the cinemas. Coolie and War 2 collectively rakes in Rs 430 crore during the Independence Day weekend Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, Coolie opened with Rs 75.50 crore. It further raked in Rs 63.50 crore on Day 2 and Rs 47.50 crore on Day 3. As per estimates, the movie stormed over Rs 44 crore on its Day 4, bringing the opening weekend cume to Rs 230 crore gross at the Indian box office. While on the other hand, War 2 kickstarted its box office run with Rs 59 crore on its opening day. It further collected Rs 67 crore on the Independence Day followed by Rs 38 crore on the third day. Estimates suggest the movie added another Rs 35 crore to the tally on its fourth day, bringing the opening weekend total to Rs 200 crore gross in India. Collectively, both Coolie and War 2 sums up Rs 430 crore gross at the domestic box office. Had both movies performed to their full potential, the combined figure would have easily surpassed the Rs 500 crore mark in the first weekend alone. Globally, both movies have clocked over the Rs 600 crore mark in the first four days of their theatrical runs. Coolie performs best down South, War 2 dominates the Northern belt Coolie fared best in its home turf along with Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. In contrast, War 2 dominated the North India belt with a solid margin. Both Independence Day releases are expected to end their theatrical run on a similar figure in India, with Coolie leading the clash. However, the Lokesh Kanagaraj movie will maintain a big margin in the international markets. It will be interesting to see whether both of them collectively can reach the Rs 1000 crore mark globally, as none of them now can achieve the four-digit magical figure alone. Coolie vs War 2 box office collection till now: Rajinikanth film inches closer to Rs 200 crore, races ahead of Hrithik Roshan-Jr NTR starrer

The Independence Day weekend turned into a blockbuster battleground as Rajinikanth's Coolie and Hrithik Roshan–Jr NTR starrer War 2 clashed at the cinemas. Both films leveraged the August 15 holiday to draw huge crowds, but Rajinikanth's action entertainer is emerging as the clear frontrunner. Coolie storms ahead with strong weekend Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj and co-starring Nagarjuna Akkineni, Coolie has maintained strong momentum despite mixed reviews. With a 20-minute action-packed climax and Lokesh's trademark thrills, the film is dominating the Tamil market. According to early estimates by Sacnilk, Coolie earned Rs 35 crore on Day 4, taking its total India net collection to Rs 194.25 crore. The film has now come within touching distance of the Rs 200 crore milestone. War 2 faces slowdown despite star power On the other hand, Ayan Mukerji's War 2, a big-ticket addition to YRF's spy univeRs e, collected Rs 31 crore on Day 4. Its four-day India net now stands at Rs 173.60 crore. Despite a strong start, the film has shown sharper weekend drops compared to Coolie. Industry insideRs credit Rajinikanth's unmatched charisma and dominance in the South Indian market as the driving force. Meanwhile, War 2 is relying on word-of-mouth to stabilize collections. While it may see a second wind, trade experts suggest it will be difficult for the film to keep pace with Coolie's box office juggernaut. What's next at the box office? With Sunday evening and night collections yet to be counted, Coolie is almost certain to cross the Rs 200 crore India net mark before the weekend closes. If it continues its streak, it could even challenge Leo's lifetime record of Rs 400 crore in India and Rs 605 crore globally. War 2 still has a chance to recover ground, but for now, the Rajinikanth-starrer is firmly leading the Independence Day box office race. Maharashtra Official's Singing Video At Work Goes Viral, Gets Suspended

Latur: A tehsildar from Maharashtra has been suspended after he was filmed singing a Bollywood song while seated in his official chair at his send-off function following transfer, officials said on Sunday. According to a viral video, Prashant Thorat passionately belts out 'yara teri yari ko' from 1981 Amitabh Bachchan-starrer 'Yaarana', with those around him clapping in sync. The board behind Thorat shows 'taluka magistrate'. Thorat, who was posted in Umri in the Nanded district, was transferred to Renapur in neighbouring Latur and relieved on July 30. He took charge of his new posting the same day. Both districts are part of the Marathwada division. On August 8, the Umri tehsil office organised a send-off event for Thorat. During this programme, Thorat sang the Kishore Kumar chartbuster 'yara teri yari ko' in the presence of the staff. However, Throat's musical performance found its way to social media, triggering sharp reactions, with many calling the behaviour inappropriate for someone holding a responsible government position, an official said. After learning about the controversy, the Nanded collector submitted a report to higher authorities, stating that Thorat's conduct had tarnished the image of the administration and violated the Maharashtra Civil Services (Conduct) Rules, 1979, the official said. Divisional Commissioner of Revenue Jitendra Papalkar, who is based in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, acted on the report and ordered Thorat's suspension on Saturday, the official said.
