Minister, CBC delegates discuss establishment of China Business Park
During the meeting, the provision of waqf land of the Auqaf Department for the establishment of China Business Park was reviewed.
Provincial Minister Chaudhry Shafay Hussain stated that approval from the provincial cabinet will be sought to lease the waqf land of the Auqaf Department for the China Business Park. The minister directed that a proposal be prepared for leasing the Auqaf Department's land and instructed that a survey be conducted of the land connected to the shrine of Hazrat Noor Shah Attari near Ferozepur Road regarding industrial infrastructure.
Chaudhry Shafay Hussain further stated that the Chinese Business Council should present a complete plan regarding the establishment and investment of the business park. The Council may also set up business park in Punjab's special economic zones. The minister added that many foreign investment companies, including those from China, have already invested in Punjab, and many more are ready to do so.
'Bringing new investment to Punjab is my mission and all possible steps are being taken to achieve this goal,' he emphasized.
Executive Chairman of the Chinese Business Council, Chen Qiang Jiang said that the Council intends to establish a China Business Park in Punjab and will invite Chinese companies to invest in it. He mentioned that companies from China associated with shoe making, artificial intelligence, electric vehicles, technology, and other sectors are ready to invest in the region.
The meeting was also attended by Secretary Auqaf Dr Tahir Raza Bukhari, Additional Secretary Auqaf, Director General Auqaf, and other concerned officers.

PCJCCI, Pakpattan chamber discuss areas of cooperation under CPEC
LAHORE: The Pakistan-China Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCJCCI) welcomed a delegation from the Pakpattan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) in Lahore, marking a significant step toward regional economic collaboration and enhanced Chinese engagement in emerging business regions of Pakistan. The delegation was led by Dewan Muhammad Azmat Mehmood Chishti, President of the Pakpattan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, accompanied by senior members Tanveer Ather Hussain Bukhari and Khalid Raffique Chaudhry. The agenda focused on exploring opportunities for Chinese support to strengthen business infrastructure in Pakpattan and identifying areas of cooperation between the two chambers under the broader framework of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). Zafar Iqbal, Acting President PCJCCI stated that PCJCCI is committed to extending its network beyond major urban centers to support the untapped potential in Pakistan's regional economies. Pakpattan, with its rich agricultural base and growing SME sector, holds promising opportunities for collaboration with Chinese enterprises. Our aim is to build bridges between regional chambers and Chinese investors. We believe Pakpattan can benefit greatly from targeted training, technology transfer, and project-specific investment linkages. Dewan Muhammad Azmat Mehmood Chishti, President PCCI highlighted the strategic importance of Pakpattan in agriculture, food processing, and textile value chains. He emphasised that Pakpattan's agri-based economy, especially its wheat, rice, cotton, and dairy production, presents viable opportunities for joint ventures with Chinese companies, particularly in agro-technology, food packaging, and value-added processing. He expressed a strong desire to see Pakpattan actively integrated into PCJCCI's national and international programmes, including future trade delegations to China, regional investment forums, and co-hosted industrial exhibitions. Khalid Raffique Choudhry proposed the initiation of joint capacity-building programmes, particularly in product development, export readiness, and Chinese business culture orientation for local SMEs. Additionally, he recommended identifying pilot projects in collaboration with Chinese investors, such as setting up cold storage facilities, drip irrigation systems, or small-scale textile units using Chinese machinery and know-how. Salahuddin Hanif, Secretary General PCJCCI discussed the possibility of organizing a 'Pakpattan-China Investment Roundtable' under PCJCCI's facilitation, which would invite Chinese companies with interest in rural industrial development, agri-tech, and textile machinery to engage with entrepreneurs and stakeholders from Pakpattan. The CCoCIP directed the Ministry of Maritime Affairs to conclude deliberations with local fishermen on starting the international transshipment of seafood from the Gwadar Port. photo: file Listen to article The Cabinet Committee on Chinese Investment Projects (CCoCIP) has directed the ministries concerned to expedite work on finalising a road map for the relocation of Chinese industries to Gwadar along with other Chinese projects before the visit of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to Beijing. In a recent meeting, the cabinet committee reviewed the implementation status presented by the respective ministries and divisions and took several decisions. It underscored the need for swift implementation of previous decisions to ensure an environment conducive for Chinese investors. The road map is being finalised, which will be tabled before the Chinese authorities during the upcoming visit of PM Sharif. The Board of Investment (Bol) highlighted the progress made on preparing the road map, which was being developed in coordination with the Ministry of Industries and Production. The CCoCIP directed the Bol to finalise the road map at the earliest and present it to the committee for consideration and approval. It noted with concern that the project linking the Gwadar desalination plant with the national grid through the extension of power distribution lines from Panjgur had not yet been completed. It directed the Power Division to submit recommendations within three days as to how a project of national strategic importance could be fast-tracked for early completion. Additionally, the CCoCIP voiced concern that despite repeated efforts, the cabinet's decision on the revision of electricity supply mechanism for the Rashakai Special Economic Zone (SEZ) had not been implemented. It urged the BoI to prepare a detailed case study, with specific timelines, regarding the delay. It also noted that the Power Division had submitted that the committee's decision to supply electricity to the Gwadar desalination plant from the national grid had been implemented. The CCoCIP directed the Ministry of Maritime Affairs to conclude deliberations with local fishermen on starting the international transshipment of seafood from the Gwadar Port and submit a compliance report in that regard. It instructed the Ministry of Planning, Development and Special Initiatives to discuss and settle all the unresolved issues with the government of Sindh related to the proposed Karachi Comprehensive Coastal Development Zone and prepare a compliance report. It also observed the position submitted by the Ministry of Commerce, stating that the Statutory Regulatory Order (SRO) facilitating the export of potassium sulphate fertiliser from the Gwadar Port by relaxing the Export Policy Order had been issued. The cabinet body directed the Ministry of Planning to conclude deliberations with the relevant ministries and divisions on the foreign currency facilitation pilot project in the Gwadar Free Zone and submit a report regarding the implementation status of the project. It gave directives that the Power Division, in consultation with the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra), should fast-track the implementation of the cabinet's decision on the revision of electricity supply mechanism for the Rashakai SEZ and come up with an implementation report for review in the next CCoCIP meeting. In that regard, Nepra was asked to expedite the matter at its end. The committee emphasised that the Bol should implement the pending decisions forthwith as well as prepare a relevant report.

PM unveils charter for JMC
ISLAMABAD: In an effort to enhance the government's healthcare credentials, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday unveiled an ambitious charter for the proposed Jinnah Medical Complex (JMC), directing that the facility be developed in accordance with international standards of infrastructure, service delivery, and governance. While chairing a review meeting on the project's progress – which is set to be built in Islamabad – the prime minister emphasised that international benchmarks should serve as the baseline, not merely an aspiration. He said the complex must emerge as a top-tier institution, offering specialised healthcare services to all provinces, including Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan. Jinnah Medical Complex: PM says will personally monitor construction In a symbolic gesture promoting federal inclusivity, the prime minister ordered that various blocks of the facility be named after the provinces – a nod to the national unity. Underscoring transparency and meritocracy, PM Sharif called for rigorous third-party validation of construction quality and recruitment processes. 'There is no room for inefficiency or favouritism,' he declared. Citing the Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute (PKLI) as a model, he asserted that the Jinnah Medical Complex would surpass it – not only in scale, but also in standards. 'By the grace of Allah, PKLI has been a beacon of healing. Jinnah Medical Complex will go even further,' he said, adding that all services – from diagnostics to janitorial – would be outsourced strictly on merit. Officials briefed the prime minister on land acquisition, board formation, and the proposal for a commercial centre adjacent to the hospital – indicating plans for a future healthcare hub. Concept designs and land transfers, the meeting was told, are in the final stages, while geotechnical and social impact studies are under way. The prime minister also called for an urgent plan to upgrade Islamabad's primary and secondary healthcare network to relieve pressure on tertiary care facilities. The meeting was attended by federal ministers Ahsan Iqbal, Ahad Cheema, Mustafa Kamal, the prime minister's health coordinator Dr Mukhtar Bharath, PKLI Chairman Dr Saeed Akhtar, and other senior officials.
