Sharjah disburses Dhs9.37 million to taxi number plate owners
The Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority (SRTA) has begun distributing the annual bonus to owners of old taxi number plates in the emirate for the year 2024. The total disbursed amount stands at Dhs9,372,000.
The payment is being made in implementation of the directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, with the aim of supporting low-income citizens and ensuring a decent standard of living for this segment of the community.
Yousef Khamis Al Othmani, Chairman of SRTA, confirmed that the bonuses are being paid to owners of old taxi number plates currently operated by franchise companies under SRTA's umbrella. A total of 4,686 individuals are benefitting from the initiative.
Abdul Aziz Mohammed Al Jarwan, Director of Transport Affairs at SRTA, stated that this step reflects the Ruler's continued interest in improving the living conditions of Sharjah's citizens, particularly the owners of old vehicle licence plates. He emphasised that the move is a reflection of the spirit of social solidarity in Sharjah.
Al Jarwan noted that the disbursement process is carried out only after eligible owners meet the necessary conditions and requirements. He assured that SRTA is committed to streamlining the procedures and removing obstacles to facilitate access to the bonus.

The Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority (SRTA) has unveiled a comprehensive transport plan for the Eid Al Adha 2025 holiday (June 5–8), ensuring residents and visitors enjoy safe, smooth, and stress-free travel during the festive break. With a surge in travel expected across Sharjah and beyond, SRTA will operate 180 buses across the emirate, delivering more than 5,600 trips across four days. To manage the holiday rush, bus frequency will increase to every five minutes during peak hours, down from the usual 45 minutes, dramatically reducing wait times for passengers. Sharjah Eid Al Adha transport Engineer Yousef Khamis Al Othmani, the head of the SRTA, highlighted the importance of being well-prepared during holidays. In Sharjah City, the Authority will run 1,144 daily trips across 12 routes with 104 buses covering 543 stops, making travel between neighbourhoods faster and more efficient. Additional staff will be deployed at key stations, particularly Jubail Bus Station, which will remain open from early morning until late evening. New Eid boat service between Sharjah and Dubai In a major highlight for intercity travellers, a special boat service between Sharjah and Dubai will operate four times daily during Eid. Departing from Sharjah's Aquarium Station and arriving at Al Ghubaiba Station in Dubai, the marine route is a collaboration between SRTA and Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority, offering scenic and efficient transport between the emirates. SRTA is also working with Oman's national transport company, Mwasalat, to operate international route 203. This bus service connects the Emirate to Muscat, Oman's capital, with two daily trips from Jubail Station to Al Athaiba in Muscat, stopping at several destinations along the route.

Anticipating a surge in travel during Eid Al Adha break, the Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority (SRTA) will operate 180 buses on various routes, aiming to complete around 5,600 trips over the four days of the holidays. The transport authority said that during peak times, buses will run every 5 minutes instead of the usual 45-minute wait. This means shorter waiting times. SRTA said that it will also increase staff at busy bus stations, especially the Jubail Bus Station, which will be open from early morning until late at night to accommodate the larger number of passengers expected during the holidays. The authority said it will be running a total of 1,144 bus trips each day across 12 different routes, using 104 buses that connect to 543 stops around the city. Marine transport SRTA also said that there will be a special boat service, operating between Sharjah and Dubai, in coordination with Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority, during the break. The authority said that there will be four daily trips. These boats will leave from the Aquarium Station in Sharjah and arrive at Al Ghubaiba Station in Dubai.
