The White House on Sunday (June 15) rejected reports that Pakistan Army Chief General Asim Munir was invited as a guest to the military parade in Washington DC.
'This is false. No foreign military leaders were invited,' news agency ANI quoted a White House official as saying.
Earlier, it was reported that Munir was invited by the Donald Trump administration to the parade, which was organised to mark the 250th anniversary celebrations of the US Armed Forces.

The reports triggered a backlash in India as well as among the Pakistani-American community in the US, who accuse the general of undermining democracy back home and leading a crackdown on the political party of jailed former PM Imran Khan.
In India, the reports prompted the opposition Congress party to criticise the government of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, calling it a major 'diplomatic setback' for New Delhi.
'It is reported that Pakistani Army Chief General Asim Munir has been invited to the event organised in Washington DC on the occasion of US Army Day (14 June). This news is a big setback for India from a diplomatic and strategic point of view,' senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said in a post on X.
'This is the same person who used provocative and inciting language just before the Pahalgam terror attack - the question arises what is America's intention?' the Congress leader asked.
US military parade
On Saturday, President Donald Trump's long-awaited military parade rolled down Constitution Avenue, featuring tanks, troops, and a 21-gun salute. The event coincided with Trump's 79th birthday and took place under cloudy skies and light rain, with the president watching from a special stand south of the White House.
'Every other country celebrates their victories. It's about time America did too,' Trump declared in brief remarks at the parade's end.
In contrast, anti-Trump activists, including civil rights groups and labor unions, organised nationwide 'No Kings' protests. They criticised the parade, held on Trump's birthday, as a display of authoritarian tendencies.

After Mughals, British looted India, Congress, SP did the same: Yogi

: Chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday alleged that India was first looted by the Mughals, followed by the British and the remnants of the nation's wealth was plundered by the Congress and Samajwadi Party. He claimed that such a state of affairs led to a situation where both the state and the country were left grappling with an identity crisis. Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath inaugurates the Shri Cement Plant in Eta under the new industrial policy. in Eta on Thursday. (ANI) Adityanath was addressing a gathering in Etah district of Aligarh division on Thursday after inaugurating Shree Cement Plant in the Malawan area of Etah. 'Remember, first the Mughals looted, then the British destroyed and whatever was left after the Mughals and the British, the Congress and Samajwadi Party destroyed and created an identity crisis in front of the country and the state,' he said. Referring to Etah district, he said, 'Mafia and criminals were calling the shots here (in the past) while the poor were helpless. The situation has changed now with a zero tolerance policy for crime. New projects are coming up, including power plants. New avenues of jobs and business are coming up.' Attacking the previous governments, he hit out at both the Congress and SP, accusing them of having a 'narrow vision' and prioritising their own families over the public good. 'Whether it is the Congress or Samajwadi Party, their vision never aligned with Prime Minister Modi's vision of 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas'. Due to the narrow vision of these parties, these people sought everyone's support but served only their own families,' he said. 'As a result, the state and the country lagged behind, poverty increased and anarchy kept increasing due to their goons,' he said. 'There was no safety, neither for businessmen nor for police stations,' he added. The chief minister said the nearby Jawaharpur thermal power plant generates 1,500 megawatt (MW) of power, while the new cement unit will create 500 direct jobs and more than 3,000 indirect opportunities. 'This investment is not just about jobs but also about strengthening trade, transport, and distribution networks — the real foundation of Atmanirbhar Bharat and Viksit Bharat,' he added. Recalling the Congress era, Yogi said even cement was once rationed and available only through connections, making house construction extremely difficult. 'How could development happen with such intent and policies?' he asked. Contrasting this with today's growth, he said that India, which fell to 11th place in the world economy by 2014 due to the Congress and the SP policies, has now risen to fourth place under PM Modi and is set to become the third-largest economy within two years. Uttar Pradesh too, he said, has risen from the seventh-largest state economy in 2017 to the second-largest today. He credited the turnaround to strict action against mafia and rioters, which restored investor confidence. 'UP has received investment proposals worth ₹45 lakh crore, out of which ₹15 lakh crore have already been grounded, creating employment for 60 lakh youth,' he said. He added that 60,244 youth, including many from Etah, were recruited into the police on merit, without discrimination. Under Mukhyamantri Yuva Yojana, 70,000 young entrepreneurs have received interest-free, guarantee-free loans to establish their own enterprises, he said. The chief minister also highlighted Etah's traditional identity, noting that the bells and ghungroos of Jalesar remain an integral part of temple worship and music gatherings. Linking this cultural heritage with modern development, he said UP is preparing its roadmap for Viksit Bharat 2047.

US Supreme Court lets Trump administration cut $783 million in medical research grants

A divided US Supreme Court let the Trump administration at least temporarily cut off millions of dollars in medical research grants that government officials say don't align with the president's policies. The administration told the Supreme Court the NIH was being forced to keep paying out $783 million, though the challengers questioned that figure.(AFP) The justices partially put on hold a federal trial judge's decision that the National Institutes of Health acted in an 'arbitrary and capricious' manner when it terminated thousands of grants as part of President Donald Trump's crackdown on diversity, equity and inclusion. The decision wasn't a total win for Trump. The justices kept in place a block on NIH guidance documents that bar funding for research connected to DEI, gender-identity, vaccine hesitancy, Covid or climate change. But the court indicated on a 5-4 vote that US District Judge William Young in Boston lacked jurisdiction to order reinstatement of specific grants. Chief Justice John Roberts joined the court's three liberals in dissent on that issue. The challengers, which include research organizations and states whose universities rely on NIH funding, said the cutoff would set back crucial research by years, if not decades. 'A stay would abruptly, and in many cases permanently, halt lifesaving biomedical research that Congress has directed the NIH to fund, with irreparable consequences for scientific progress,' the groups, led by the American Public Health Organization, argued in court papers. The administration told the Supreme Court the NIH was being forced to keep paying out $783 million, though the challengers questioned that figure. 'The government is irreparably harmed when forced to pay out millions of dollars on discretionary grants, with no guarantee of recouping the money,' US Solicitor General D. John Sauer wrote in court papers. Sauer is the administration's top Supreme Court lawyer. The case is National Institutes of Health v. American Public Health Association, 25A103.

Interesting times ahead: Trump slams Biden, says Ukraine must fight back

US President Donald Trump argued that Ukraine cannot win its war against Russia if it is only allowed to defend, sharply criticising Joe Biden for limiting Kyiv's response to Moscow's invasion.'It is very hard, if not impossible, to win a war without attacking an invader's country,' Trump wrote on Truth Social, likening Ukraine's struggle to a sports team forced to play only defense. There is no chance of winning! Crooked and grossly incompetent Joe Biden would not let Ukraine FIGHT BACK, only DEFEND. How did that work out?'advertisement The comments came after Russia launched its biggest missile and drone assault in more than a month, killing nine civilians in strikes and shelling, according to Ukrainian officials cited by met Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska on August 15, but the talks produced no breakthrough on a ceasefire. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has insisted that security guarantees must be in place before he considers any the setback, Trump signalled he may push for a trilateral meeting with Putin and Zelenskyy. 'Regardless, this is a war that would have NEVER happened if I were President – ZERO CHANCE,' he wrote, promising 'interesting times ahead!!!'Zelenskyy dismissed any suggestion that Moscow is serious about peace, saying the latest strikes prove Russia is 'trying to wriggle out of the need to hold a meeting. They do not want to end this war. They are continuing their massive attacks against Ukraine and very fierce assaults on the front lines.'- EndsMust Watch
