(Bernama pic) PETALING JAYA: PKR vice-president Aminuddin Harun believes that Rafizi Ramli's supporters will not leave the party following his defeat in last Friday's party election for the post of deputy president. Rafizi lost the race for PKR's number two post to Nurul Izzah Anwar in a straight fight. Aminuddin, the Negeri Sembilan menteri besar who said he was one of Rafizi's staunchest allies, expressed confidence yesterday that any disappointment among Rafizi's supporters would be short-lived. 'They will not leave the party, but will focus on strategies that can be implemented at the branch and division levels as a way forward,' he said in a Berita Harian report. 'I believe they will take some time to reflect and eventually return to support PKR,' he said after a sepak takraw tournament in Nilai last night. Aminuddin also stressed that PKR's leadership must develop strategies and respond to the concerns raised by the party's grassroots, including those circulating on social media.
Advertisement On Saturday, Rafizi said he was proud of the ordinary PKR members and supporters who had stood by him throughout his campaign, 'even when all odds were stacked against me'. (Bernama pic) Kuala Lumpur: The High Court here will hear Muhyiddin Yassin's bid to refer legal questions to the apex court on the validity of certain provisions under the Sedition Act on Aug 28. The former prime minister is accused of making seditious statements during the Nenggiri by-election in Gua Musang, Kelantan, last year. Justice Jamil Hussin fixed the date after lawyer Joshua Tay, appearing for Muhyiddin, told the court that the defence and prosecution had agreed on the date. The court then instructed the prosecution and defence to file their submissions by Aug 14. Deputy public prosecutor Razali Che Ani appeared for the prosecution. Muhyiddin allegedly said he was not invited by the then Yang di-Pertuan Agong to be sworn in as prime minister following the 2022 general election, despite having obtained the majority support of 115 MPs. If found guilty, the Perikatan Nasional chairman and Bersatu president will face a jail term that could extend to three years or a maximum fine of RM5,000. Muhyiddin was initially charged at the Gua Musang sessions court in August last year. Legal questions referral is not about personal immunity, it concerns constitutional integrity: PM

Instead, the Prime Minister said it concerns the integrity of Malaysia's constitutional system and the need to ensure that high public office is protected from litigation that may be strategically timed, politically motivated, or institutionally disruptive. 'I remain fully committed to the rule of law, the independence of our courts, and the dignity of democratic governance. 'The legal process will continue, and I will continue to discharge my responsibilities without distraction or compromise,' he posted on Facebook today. Earlier, the High Court dismissed Anwar's application to refer eight legal questions, including whether the Prime Minister enjoys immunity from lawsuits, to the Federal Court under Article 128(2) of the Federal Constitution (FC). Judge Roz Mawar Rozain made the ruling after finding that none of the articles of a Federal Constitution (FC) cited by Anwar's legal team give rise to any real, substantial or justiciable question of constitutional law requiring determination by the Federal Court under Article 128(2) of the FC or Section 84 of Courts of Judicature Act 1964. Foreigner caught with homemade air rifle in Kalabakan

KALABAKAN: A 39-year-old foreign man was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly possessing a homemade air rifle hidden in his home at Felda Tengah 2. Tawau police chief ACP Jasmin Hussin said the suspect was apprehended during a raid by Kalabakan police following intelligence and public tip-offs. Although no illegal items were found during a body search, the suspect failed to produce valid identification documents. Further checks, guided by the suspect, led police to discover the homemade firearm inside his residence.
