NEW DELHI: RJD leader
Tejashwi Yadav
on Tuesday pledged a series of welfare schemes if his party returns to power in Bihar in the assembly polls scheduled for later this year. Taking a cue from the Bharatiya Janata Party's playbook, Tejashwi announced a monthly cash transfer of Rs 2,500 to women under a proposed initiative called the Mai Behan Maan scheme.
The former Bihar deputy CM also announced that his party will provide 200 units of free electricity and subsidised gas cylinders for Rs 500.
Addressing a press conference, Tejashwi also criticised chief minister Nitish Kumar, claiming the current administration is exhausted and disconnected from the ground reality. 'The chief minister is tired and unable to see the truth. Retired officers have only one job now to loot the state treasury.
Administrative anarchy prevails,' he said.
Yadav accused the ruling alliance of failing to address core issues such as poverty, unemployment, and migration. 'Bihar ranks number one in all the wrong areas,' he said, blaming two decades of JDU-led rule. The RJD leader expressed confidence that the public will bring an end to what he described as a crumbling and outdated government.
The announcement comes as political activity in Bihar intensifies ahead of the 2025 Assembly elections.

The announcement comes as political activity in Bihar intensifies ahead of the 2025 Assembly elections. Tejashwi has been vocal in recent months, sharply criticising Nitish and the ruling NDA.
In a video released on social media, Yadav alleged rising corruption, unemployment, and crime, accusing the government of failing the people. He claimed that after 20 years of BJP-JD(U) rule, Bihar is ready for change. Yadav also accused the BJP of "misusing" Nitish Kumar's image while effectively controlling the state government.
He went further to allege that JD(U) leader Lalan Singh is mentally aligned with the BJP.
In response, Deputy CM Samrat Choudhary defended the NDA's record, highlighting progress in infrastructure, electricity, and healthcare. JD(U) spokesperson Rajiv Ranjan Prasad rejected Yadav's allegations, citing employment figures and improved law and order. He added that Bihar has seen reverse migration, unlike during the "jungle raj" under RJD rule.

UP women's commission sends notice to cleric over remarks on Dimple Yadav

Agra: A notice has been issued to Maulana Sajid Rashidi for making objectionable and misogynistic remarks about Samajwadi Party MP Dimple Yadav 's attire — she wore a sari — during a visit to a mosque near the Parliament last week, UP Women's Commission chairperson Babita Chauhan said on Tuesday. Chauhan, who was holding a public meeting in Agra on cases linked to crimes against women, said, "Dimple Yadav is a respected member of Parliament. No one has the right to speak about any woman in such language, regardless of who they are. Everyone is born from a woman's womb. There should be no tolerance for such demeaning and disgraceful remarks. That is why the Commission has taken cognisance and served a notice to the Maulana. " The controversy began after a delegation of SP leaders — including party chief Akhilesh Yadav, Mainpuri MP Dimple Yadav, Mohibulla Nadvi, Dharmendra Yadav, Zia ur Rahman Barq, and others — visited the mosque in Delhi last week. A photo from the visit was shared on social media, prompting the BJP to accuse the SP of holding a political meeting at a religious place. Rashidi, president of the All India Imam Association, commented on Yadav's choice to wear a sari during the visit and compared her to SP MP Iqra Hasan, who had covered her head. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo The remarks, made during a televised debate, triggered a political backlash and drew widespread condemnation. Subsequently, an FIR was registered against Rashidi at Vibhuti Khand police station in Lucknow on a complaint by a local resident, Pravesh Yadav, on Sunday. Rashidi was slapped with BNS sections 79 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman), 196 (promoting enmity between groups on religious grounds), 197 (prejudicial to national integration), along with sections of the IT Act. Reacting to the controversy, Dimple Yadav said she "welcomed the FIR" against Rashidi.

Let migrants come back, we'll know who is lying: CM after ‘fake clip' claim

1 2 Kolkata/Bolpur: A Bengali-speaking woman and her child, who were allegedly assaulted in Delhi, had been threatened, CM Mamata Banerjee said on Tuesday. The CM had earlier shared a video on social media, alleging that the woman and her child were assaulted in the national capital for speaking their language. "The migrant workers are being held in detention camps and moved from one police station to another. Just yesterday (Monday), I mentioned the child's situation. I said they were being transferred from one station to another and are likely to be threatened. That's exactly what happened. Now, we want them to return. It will soon be clear who is telling the truth and who is lying," said Banerjee at Birbhum's Illambazar, while attending a govt programme. I shared a post on social media about how a child was assaulted. The police are taking them from one police station to another so that they can be shown as 'missing'. Then they will say we are sharing fake information. We do not need to fake anything." Delhi Police , however, called the video shared by Banerjee on social media "fabricated" and "politically motivated". by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Libas Purple Days Sale Libas Undo Delhi's deputy commissioner of police (East Delhi) Abhishek Dhania said: "During sustained questioning, the woman admitted that her relative, a political worker from Malda, asked her to make the video. The video was then circulated locally in Bengal and later surfaced on social media." After Bengal BJP raised the issue, Trinamool spokesperson Kunal Ghosh told reporters: "We will not heed the opinion of experts in fake posts. They are extremely adept at posting videos and images of incidents taking place even outside India to smear Bengal. In this case, the post made by the CM was based on specific input. It has come to our notice that police are under tremendous pressure in BJP-governed states to manipulate facts relating to the illegal detention and harassment of Bengali-speaking people. It needs to be unearthed whether this (the Delhi Police statement) is part of that script." Ghosh also questioned BJP MP Soumendu Adhikari's police complaint against the post, "He, and his party, never stood by people when they were harassed and detained. They never helped them. But now he is trying to prove a political point to his party," he said.

HC to examine MP Rashid's bail plea to attend LS

NEW DELHI: Delhi HC Tuesday said it would examine on July 31 jailed Lok Sabha MP Abdul Rashid Sheikh's plea seeking interim bail to attend Parliament's Monsoon session. A bench of justices Vivek Chaudhary and Mini Pushkarna also indicated that it was inclined to send the plea before another bench, which had originally allowed him the relief. The latest petition challenges a trial court order asking him to bear travel expenses of Rs 1.44 lakh per day for attending Parliament while in custody. Justice Chaudhary was of the view that the plea moved by Rashid, popularly known as Engineer Rashid, seeking waiver of the travel expenses should be heard by the bench that previously heard a similar plea by him during the Budget session.
