Bengals' former late-round draft pick could have big role in 2025
There's a lot to like about the pass-rushing group going into 2025 for the Cincinnati Bengals.
Provided, of course, one ignores the messy contract drama for Trey Hendrickson and first-round rookie Shemar Stewart.

But even including those two, the Bengals have first-round product Myles Murphy and are excited about the return of Cam Sample and Joseph Ossai also likely getting more looks.
Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic tacked on another name to keep in mind, too:
'Another name of note, further under the radar, is 2024 sixth-round pick Cedric Johnson. He found himself in regular rotations and has received praise from different corners of the building throughout the offseason program. He's the only edge who fits the speed rusher profile at 6-foot-3, 260 pounds, and could find a subpackage role because of it.'

Cedric Johnson was a pretty popular pick in the minds of fans when the Bengals made it in the 2024 draft. Like others before him, he was one of those guys who appeared to have huge upside, once the logjam of names like Sam Hubbard cleared up a bit.
Now, it has. Like the rest of the defense, there's some seriously impressive upside, but nothing much has been proven yet. The youth movement is an overall high-upside gamble to complement what should be an elite offense again.
Johnson locking down a subpackage role in an effective manner and getting notable snaps would mean the defense is forcing opposing offenses into pass-rushing situations in the first place, which would imply the unit is improved from last year, too.

Buss family agrees to sell majority stake of Los Angeles Lakers in reported record $10B deal
The Buss family has agreed to sell majority ownership of the Los Angeles Lakers, one of the most storied franchises in all of sports, to Los Angeles Dodgers owner Mark Walter, a source familiar with the agreement told CNN. The valuation of the agreement is approximately $10 billion, representing the most lucrative deal for a professional sports team, according to the Associated Press. ESPN's Shams Charania was first to report the agreed sale. CNN has reached out to the Lakers and Dodgers for comment. Aside from being the chairman and controlling owner of the Dodgers, Walter is the CEO and founder of the holding company TWG Global. The diversified business also holds stakes in the WNBA's Los Angeles Sparks, the Premier League's Chelsea FC and the newly formed Cadillac Formula One team, which is scheduled to make its debut on the grid in 2026, among other sports franchises. On Wednesday, TWG said Walter is entering into an agreement to acquire additional interests in the Lakers. He has owned a minority stake in the franchise since 2021. Basketball Hall of Famer Jerry Buss bought the Lakers in 1979 and oversaw the franchise winning 10 NBA titles. After his death in 2013, his daughter Jeanie Buss took over the role as governor of one of the most successful franchises in sports. Los Angeles added another Larry O'Brien trophy to the collection in 2020, led by LeBron James, the team's 17th NBA championship. Last season, the Lakers finished in third place in the Western Conference with a 50-32 record before being eliminated by the Minnesota Timberwolves in the first round of the NBA playoffs. James still remained one of the better players in the league in his 22nd season, averaging 24.4 points, 7.8 rebounds and 8.2 assists. But the team shocked the world by executing one of the most stunning blockbuster trades in NBA history. Los Angeles acquired NBA superstar Luka Doncic, as well as Maxi Kleber, Markieff Morris from the Dallas Mavericks for Anthony Davis, Max Christie and the Lakers' 2029 first-round draft pick. The NBA's all-time leading scorer reportedly signed a two-year, $104 million maximum contract to return to the Lakers ahead of 2024-2025 season and has a player option to return next season. The Dallas Cowboys enter this period with a revamped roster and a new coaching staff that's making everybody earn every position and every rep. … And a handful of players could now be walking into Oxnard with a target on their back. Advertisement Damone Clark is one of them. His leadership, toughness, and recovery story from spinal fusion surgery are beyond admirable. But in a linebacker room now featuring Marist Liufau, Jack Sanborn, Kenneth Murray Jr., Shemar James, and the return of DeMarvion Overshown, Clark's $3.3 million cap hit suddenly becomes a real conversation. The Cowboys could cut him, save over $3 million in cap space, and take on just $60,000 in dead money. There's no question about Clark's character and football ability at full health — but he simply may find himself the odd man out if a cheaper, younger linebacker earns the trust of the new staff. Drafted for his rare athleticism, his career has been wrecked by injuries. He's played in just 11 games in three years and enters a packed offensive line room full of experienced veterans and up and coming prospects. Nate Thomas, Asim Richards, and Ajani Cornelius to name a few. Add in the fact that Waletzko no longer has a 'sponsor' in the building and it's easy to see the writing on the wall. And then there's Andrew Booth — a former second-round pick the Cowboys took a flier on last offseason. He struggled significantly when injuries forced him into extended snaps down the stretch in 2024. Dallas responded by drafting Shavon Revel Jr., a corner with first-round pedigree who only fell due to injury. And trading for former first round pick Kaiir Elam who's been the talk of OTA's and Minicamp so far. It seems as if Booth's best shot at sticking will be tied to the health and rehabilitation of others — not necessarily his own performance.
