Over RM5 million seized in Sarawak GOF's crackdown on illegal activities
Its Commander, SAC Dr Che Ghazali Che Awang, said that the four successful operations - Op Taring Alpha, Op Taring Bravo, Op Taring Awas, and Op Libas - were carried out between June 23 and 28 in Kuching, Sibu, Miri, and Lundu.
He said the biggest haul was recorded by the 10th Battalion of the Sibu GOF, during Op Libas on June 24, where an illegal logging site was raided, resulting in the arrest of three men, aged 39 to 57, and the seizure of 350 logs.
"Also seized was a wood-cutting machine, bringing the estimated total value of the seized items to RM3.504 million, based on market price," he said in a statement today (June 30).
Under Op Taring Alpha on June 23, the GOF Investigation Branch raided premises here and seized 32,736 litres of various brands of liquor without customs duty approval, in addition to arresting five local men, aged between 26 and 36.
"Also seized was a lorry, and the estimated total value of the seizure was RM1,457,648, according to market price.
Through Op Taring Bravo, in Miri on June 25, a team from the GOF Miri raided premises in the district, arresting two local men, aged 32 and 45, and seizing 39,300 litres of diesel stored without a permit.
A diesel storage tank and a lorry were also seized during the operation, bringing the total value of the seizure to RM486,065.
Under Op Taring Awas on June 28, a team from the 11th Battalion of the Kuching GOF arrested three local men, aged between 23 and 36, in a vehicle in Lundu, and seized a transparent packet containing a substance believed to be methamphetamine, weighing 0.32g (grammes).
The total value of the seizure, including the vehicle, was RM50,100.
He said that, from Jan 1 to June 30, Sarawak GOF recorded total seizures amounting to RM290.3 million, involving 236 cases and 355 arrests.

Immigration DG says work permit issued to detainee in viral video suspected to be fake
KUALA LUMPUR: A work permit shown in a viral video, allegedly issued to a detainee at an immigration depot, is suspected to be fake, said Immigration Department director-general Datuk Zakaria Shaaban. Checks revealed that the QR code on the permit had been tampered with, and cross-verification via the MyIMMs system using the passport number showed no record of a Temporary Work Visit Pass. "Investigations are underway to identify the source of the data misuse and ensure legal action is taken," Zakaria said in a statement today. The claim surfaced in a video showing a couple meeting the video's account holder to discuss allegations that a work permit had been issued to the woman's brother while in detention. In the video, a couple claimed they paid RM5,000 to a man titled "Datuk" to procure a Temporary Work Visit Pass in exchange for the detainee's release. Despite the QR code appearing valid in the system, the detainee was not released in court and remains in custody. Zakaria also denied claims circulating on social media that a "Datuk" could arrange a temporary work visit pass or ePass documents to free a detainee, stressing that all immigration transactions must go through official counters or the department's online portal. He urged anyone with information or who has fallen victim to such scams to lodge a police report and contact the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission.

Pakistani among 5 arrested for rubber latex smuggling in Perak
IPOH: A Pakistani national was among five people detained by the General Operations Force (GOF) for involvement in rubber latex smuggling activities over the past two months. Northern Brigade GOF commander, Senior Assistant Commissioner Shahrum Hashim, said they were arrested at 2.30am on Friday during Op Intra. "We also seized over 35,400kg of rubber latex, a tanker truck, as well as various machinery and equipment used to transfer the rubber latex. "The operation was carried out by the Intelligence Branch of the GOF Northern Brigade, with assistance from the Malaysian Rubber Board (MRB), Taiping Municipal Council, and Taiping district police headquarters," he said. He added that the operations team tracked a tanker truck carrying rubber latex from Kedah to a premises in Taiping, where the suspects, aged between 32 and 59, were transferring the rubber latex using hoses. "At the premises, they transferred the rubber latex using hoses into an IBC tank (bulk storage tank) with a capacity of 1,000kg. "An inspection found that the tanker truck driver had sold 900kg of rubber latex, using a trick by replacing the weight of the sold latex by placing several weights on the body of the tanker. "This was done so that the customer receiving the rubber latex would not notice the reduction in weight during the re-weighing process," he said in a statement today. He added that the total value of the seizure was estimated to be more than RM789,000. "The Pakistani man detained was found to have violated the conditions of his work permit, an offence under Regulation 39(b) of the Immigration Act 1959/63. "He was handed over to the police, while the other four detainees and the seized items were handed over to the MRB for further investigation," he said. The case is being investigated under the Malaysian Rubber Board Licensing and Permit Regulations 2014, namely Regulation 3(1)(a) and Regulation 7(1)(f). He added that fines and licence cancellations could be imposed by the MRB if a breach of licence conditions is proven.
