Monitoring officer reviews key civic projects in Agasteeswaram taluk
The Monitoring Officer reviewed various sites, including Urban Primary Health centres (UPHCs), corporation's dump yard, coastal hamlets and other development works of the Nagercoil Municipal Corporation.
During his visit to the UPHC in Krishnancoil area, he inquired about the availability of doctors and essential medicines at the centre. The department officials were asked about tests for non communicable disease, including high blood pressure and diabetes, under the scheme 'Makkalai Thedi Maruthuvam'.
He also visited Valampuraivilai dump yard, located in the heart of a residential area, an issue of critical concern for the city. Everyday tonnes of wastes from households, hotels and markets under the Corporation limits are being dumped at the site. He directed the Corporation officials to give precedence to public health with bio mining and other waste processing activities at the yard, particularly due to close proximity of residential areas, hospitals and markets.
He also instructed the Corporation officials to expedite installation of suction systems at the Underground Drainage System facilities at the Pattasalianvilai.
He also inspected the construction of 500 metre sea wall along the coastal road of Pottal-Puthanthurai-Pallamthurai at a cost of ₹2.81 crore and the construction of an overhead tank at Thengamputhoor being developed under the AMRUT scheme at a cost of ₹64.68 crore.
The tank with a capacity of around 3 lakh litres will benefit 11,049 households in the area that were added recently to the Nagercoil Municipal Corporation limits.

Tirupati: Tirupati district Collector Dr S Venkateswar stressed that education is the only means to reach the highest peaks in society. He was speaking at the World Adivasi Day celebrations held at the local Tribal Welfare Building on Saturday. Addressing the gathering, the Collector noted that tribals across the world hold a distinct identity, with unique customs, traditions, and practices that must be preserved and promoted. He pointed out that the tribal diet is highly nutritious, and many doctors today recommend the consumption of naturally grown millets, traditionally eaten by tribals, to combat lifestyle diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, and other chronic ailments. Dr Venkateswar announced that Rs 20 lakh will be sanctioned for repairs to the Tribal Welfare Building, and efforts would be made to secure an additional Rs 10 lakh through discussions with the TUDA Chairman and the Corporation. He also mentioned that while ROFR (Recognition of Forest Rights) pattas have been distributed in some mandals, the process is pending in others and will be expedited within the next three to four months. Special measures will be taken to organise a dedicated job fair for Scheduled Tribes, he said. Basic amenities will be provided in tribal areas, and housing will be sanctioned under government schemes. The district is home to approximately 1.7 lakh tribals, including 1.42 lakh Yanadis, 11,000 Sugalis, 11,000 Erukala, and 6,000 Nakkala communities. Andhra Pradesh Handicrafts Development Corporation Chairman Dr Pasupuleti Hariprasad stated that the government's primary goal is to bring tribals into the path of development. He assured that steps are being taken to ensure fair pricing for the products crafted by tribal communities. TUDA Chairman G Narasimha Yadav, Tribal Welfare Department Officer Raja Somu and several tribal leaders attended the programme.

Labour welfare minister launches 'Nalam Kaakkum Stalin' in Tittakudi
CUDDALORE: Labour Welfare and Skill Development Minister CV Ganesan launched the 'Nalam Kaakkum Stalin' Special Multi-Specialty Medical Camp at a private school in Tittakudi, Cuddalore, on Saturday, and distributed welfare benefits to 20 beneficiaries. Ganesan said, 'The CM of Tamil Nadu is implementing several schemes for public welfare. Three hospitals were established in Tittakudi in 1989, and medical treatment has been provided since then.' 'Through the Makkalai Thedi Maruthuvam scheme, health inspectors and nurses visit the homes of 45-year-old people with diseases like high blood pressure and diabetes, provide treatment, and supply medicines.' Referring to accident care, he said, 'Under the 'Innuyir Kaappom Nammai Kaakkum 48' scheme, the government funds two days' medical expenses for accident victims. Those who admit accident victims are also given assistance.' "The 'Nalam Kaakkum Stalin' scheme was launched in Chennai on August 2, 2025. Across TN, 1,256 camps with the help of 17 medical departments. In Cuddalore, the first camp was held in Kurinjipadi on August 2, benefiting 1,076 patients. 43 camps will be held, 39 in rural areas and four in Cuddalore Corporation limits, every Saturday." he added. 'I urge the public to make full use of these camps,' the minister said. At the Tittakudi camp, marriage and education assistance was provided under the Labour Welfare Department, and nutrition kits, and medicines were provided under the Makkalai Thedi Maruthuvam scheme. Health checks included blood pressure, blood tests, and kidney function tests, with results sent via SMS within an hour. Facilities such as X-ray, echocardiogram, and ultrasound were available. The camp also enabled registration under the Chief Minister's Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme and issuance of disability certificates.

Madurai corporation eyes NQAS certification for 3 UPHCs
Madurai: Madurai corporation is hoping to obtain the National Quality Assurance Standards (NQAS) certification for Aruldaspuram, Thiruparankundram, and Puttuthoppu urban primary health centres (UPHCs) this year. O n Friday, the NQAS assessment team inspected the Aruldaspuram UPHC, accompanied by mayor Indrani Ponvasanth. The inspection covered facilities such as the laboratory, medicine stock, maternal and child health services, record maintenance, and various medical service departments. The national-level teams already completed inspections of the Thiruparankundram and Puttuthoppu UPHCs earlier this year. The NQAS programme, implemented by the Union govt, aims to improve the quality of healthcare services in primary health facilities. Certification is granted following a three-stage process — self-assessment, state-level evaluation, and a final review by the Union govt.
