2am operation: Thieves target truck transporting Hayabusa bikes, flee with mirrors & batteries in Bengaluru

Bengaluru: A group of thieves recently targeted a truck transporting motorcycles from Haryana. Their primary aim was to steal a Suzuki Hayabusa, but when unsuccessful, they resorted to taking its mirrors, batteries, and key set. The perpetrators also made off with the truck driver's mobile phone and money. Nanda Lal, 45, a resident of Dungarpur in Rajasthan, is working as a truck driver for a transport company. He was assigned to transport Suzuki Hayabusa bikes from Haryana to two motor vehicle dealer godowns: one is Apple Auto Agency in Banashankari and another Aryan Auto Agency in Bidarahalli. Accordingly, he loaded the bikes in the truck and left Haryana on June 13. He came to Bengaluru on the evening of June 22 and delivered the bikes to Apple Auto Agency. When he was heading to Bidarahalli, he lost his way near East Point Hospital in Virgonagar. As it was 2am, there were hardly any people on the road. He parked the vehicle on the roadside, left the key in the truck and went to the hospital premises to get directions to Bidarahalli. The miscreants drove away with the truck before Nanda walked out of the hospital a few minutes later. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Cuối cùng, chơi miễn phí game chiến thuật hay nhất 2025! Nanda searched for the truck in the surrounding area, in vain. He managed to reach Aryan Auto Agency in the early hours of June 23. He met agency employee Jagadish and informed him about the incident. He borrowed Jagadish's phone and informed the truck owner. He tracked the location of the truck to Gundur village near Hoskote with the help of GPS. Nanda and Jagadish rushed to a playground in Gundur. They found the miscreants had attempted to steal a bike from the container but failed to unload it. They damaged both sides of the bike and the silencer apart from stealing the mirrors, batteries, and the key set. They also stole the driver's phone and Rs 3,000 from his wallet. A case was registered under BNS section 303 (theft) at Avalahally police station. Police are analysing the CCTV footage of the roads through which the miscreants drove the truck to Gundur. "We have got some clues and efforts are on to nab them. We suspect the miscreants must have known about the truck driver carrying the bikes. The bike's starting price is over Rs 15 lakh," an officer said.

Cuttack court acquits Dhalasamanta brothers in twin murder case

1 2 Cuttack: In a dramatic turn of events, the sessions court in Cuttack on Thursday acquitted gangster siblings — Sushanta Kumar Dhalasamanta (52) and Sushil Kumar Dhalasamanta (48) — along with six others in the 2013 twin murder of their former associates, Manoj Mallick and Omprakash Swain. The judgment, delivered by sessions judge Sitikantha Samal, said the prosecution failed to establish beyond reasonable doubt that the two victims were murdered by the accused. "This court holds that the prosecution cannot establish that Dipu alias Manoj Kumar Mallick and Omm alias Omprakash Swain are dead and their death is homicidal in nature beyond reasonable doubts," the court observed. Despite acquittal in the murder case, legal troubles for the Dhalasamanta brothers are not over, with other criminal cases pending against them. Senior advocate Saura Chandra Mohapatra represented the siblings, while special public prosecutor D P Das led the prosecution. The Dhalasamanta brothers were arrested on Jan 29, 2016. Police had claimed in their 2016 chargesheets that the duo abducted their associates from their Cuttack homes, tortured and killed them at a farmhouse near Athagarh, and then transported the bodies to Jharkhand, where they were burnt to destroy evidence. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Install the Perfect Pool at Home – Start Here Backyard Pool | Search Ads Learn More Undo While two burnt bodies were recovered by Jharkhand police from West Singbhum district in Nov 2013, the remains could not be conclusively identified. The prosecution relied heavily on circumstantial evidence, but the court ruled the chain of evidence was incomplete and did not conclusively prove the charges of abduction and murder. Six other accused — Debasis Kar (47), Suvendu Das (35), Arif Khan (40), Debashis Sahoo (34), Bharat Behera (34) and Debadutta Das (35) — were also acquitted. Two other accused, Bholanath Bhagat and Bhajana alias Sanjaya Kumar Sahoo, died during the pendency of the trial, in 2021 and 2022, respectively. However, the court found the Dhalasamanta brothers guilty under the Arms Act for unauthorised possession of deadly and prohibited firearms. The court sentenced them to seven years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed fine of Rs 10,000 each.

‘Woman with limbs tied… man who soiled himself': 3 rescued from Noida old age home

A woman lying without clothes and another with her hands and legs tied, a man who had soiled himself — this was the sight that greeted teams of the Uttar Pradesh State Commission for Women and the state's Social Welfare department Thursday when they carried out a joint raid at NGO Anand Niketan Vridha Ashram, an old age home in Noida's Sector 55. The facility had come under scrutiny after a viral video showed an elderly woman tied up inside a room. The footage, sent to the Social Welfare department in Lucknow, led to a surprise inspection and the rescue of two elderly women and one man. Officials, accompanied by police personnel from the Sector 58 police station, found many residents living in distressing and unsanitary conditions on Thursday. 'In one room, there was a woman who was naked, a man who had soiled himself, and another woman whose hands and legs were tied,' said Sub-Inspector Maan Singh, who was part of the operation. Officials said that while the three rescued residents have been shifted to a government shelter at Dankaur in Greater Noida, the remaining 39 will be relocated in the coming week. A notice has been issued to seal the premises of the trust running the facility, they added. Meenakshi Bharala, a member of the women's commission, said the shelter has been running illegally since 1994. When The Indian Express visited the facility on Friday, the atmosphere seemed tense. The distraught secretary of the facility said she was ready to quit. Also present was Amarvir Singh, a member of the Trust that ran the facility. The family members of the three rescued inmates, meanwhile, alleged that their kin were relocated to a government shelter without prior intimation. 'They took my relative without informing me, even after I told them I was on the way. I have been told they did not want to leave, but were taken forcibly,' a woman claiming to be a family member told The Indian Express. The home charges families a one-time 'donation' of Rs 2.5 lakh and Rs 6,000 per month for food, lodging, laundry, and care-giving facilities. The rooms The Indian Express visited appeared equipped with basic amenities — bed, cooler, wardrobe, a small mandir, and an attached washroom. The premises also had a waiting ambulance, stretchers, wheelchairs, a canteen, a bigger temple, a library, and a lawn. Social Welfare Officer Nitya Dwivedi, however, said the existing conditions were far from acceptable. 'We found the elderly persons in distressing and unhygienic conditions. They were tied and locked up in basement-like rooms. There was hardly any support staff. This is unacceptable,' she added. The other inmates also alleged that no caretaker is available at the premises after 7.30 pm. A 76-year-old woman, who has been staying at the home for the last four years, said, 'Everything is fine here… Some people are hard to handle due to their age. The only issue is that there is no caretaker here after 7.30 pm…' The caretakers defended themselves, claiming they were overwhelmed and lacked support. 'One elderly woman would tear her clothes, another would throw utensils at us… One of us tied her up just to be able to eat lunch in peace. Another had soiled his clothes, but we had not been informed,' claimed a staff member. Despite the findings, no FIR has been registered so far. The Station House Officer of Sector 58 police station said the police are awaiting a formal investigation report from the Social Welfare department. 'Only then can we take any legal action, such as sealing the premises or imposing fines.' Another resident at the home said he favours this facility as it is not costly. 'I was earlier at a mental health facility that charged Rs 15,000 a month and locked us in. Here, I can move freely and live for only Rs 6,000.' The Trust that runs the home, meanwhile, is expected to address the media at noon on Saturday. 'We are convening a meeting with all board members, we will submit all clearances and documents. Many families have also expressed interest in speaking to the press,' said Amarvir Singh.
