Meanwhile, in Southern Europe, Trendy King will lead Allbirds' entry into the Iberian Peninsula. The company operates across multiple channels including online, retail and wholesale. It has more than 30 years of experience in the fashion industry and is recognized as a leading distributor in the region.
'We are delighted to introduce Allbirds to the Iberian market, a brand whose mission and principles collaborate in the development of a more sustainable future,' said Alfonso García Busto, Trendy King's business development director. Ibex-35 hits 15,000 points and reaches the highest level since 2007

The main index of the Spanish stock market closed on Wednesday at 15,019 points and reached levels not seen since 2007, the year in which the real estate bubble burst, leading to a global stock market collapse and a decade of austerity for the Iberian economy. At the time of writing on Thursday morning, it had continued to rise to 15,113 points. The Ibex-35 is less than 1,000 points away from beating its all-time high of 9 November 2007, a month before the outbreak of the great financial crisis. At that time it reached 16,040.40 points. Several factors could be boosting investor confidence during the eight consecutive days in which the Ibex has risen. Firstly, the US Consumer Price Index data: the drop in oil prices has kept inflation at 2.7% in both the US and Spain, so trade uncertainties and Donald Trump's tariff war do not appear to be translating, for now, into widespread price increases for consumers. Secondly, the US Federal Reserve is expected to lower its interest rates despite resistance from its chief, Jerome Powell, who believes that inflation is not sufficiently under control and that rates should therefore not be cut, despite the direct threats he has received from the US president to do so. The futures market gives a near 100% probability of a rate cut in the US, to be announced on 17 September. The biggest risers on the Ibex on Wednesday were two pharmaceutical companies: Grifols (2.18%) and Rovi (3.42%), as well as Fluidra (2.79%) and several banks such as BBVA (1.68%) and Santander (1.51%). In Europe, the German Dax was up 0.7% while London's FTSE 100 and the French Cac were up 0.2% and 0.4%, respectively. So far this year, the Spanish selective index has gained 28%. Investors await Friday's meeting between Trump and Putin in Alaska. The geopolitical news of the week is keeping the world's stock markets on edge, and they could react with a negative rebound if a satisfactory agreement is not reached between the two leaders. The meeting between the US and Russian presidents will be their first face-to-face meeting since the Russian invasion began in February 2022. The Ukrainian president and the other Western leaders, excluded from this meeting, have tried to soften their positions this afternoon so that Ukrainian territorial sovereignty does not come into play during the negotiations, in which Kyiv will have no say.

Pull & Bear brings Matisse's iconic style to life in capsule collection

The Mediterranean, which runs between France and Spain, is the link that Iberian retailer Pull & Bear has chosen to present its new capsule collection, revisiting the graphic universe of Matisse. The painter, who enlivened the art scene in the first half of the 20th century, sees his visual language reinterpreted in a summer collection of garments featuring cobalt blue and organic shapes. The Inditex group's young fashion chain shot the campaign highlighting this product range in Nice, where the artist spent several years and where he died in 1954. The wardrobe blends casual and streetwear shapes (sweatshirts, barrel pants, overshirts, Bermuda shorts, oversized T-shirts, caps, etc.) with works that made the artist famous, such as his "Blue Nude," or his leaf and dove shapes made from cut paper. Pull & Bear included beach towels, phone cases and bandanas in the accessories lineup, with prices ranging from €13 to €46. The brand launched the mini-collection last week at the Carrières des Lumières in Les Baux-de-Provence, hosting several influencers at the event. On the brand's website, product information sheets state that this fashion capsule has been produced "under license," presumably with the agreement of Henri Matisse's heirs. More recently, the artist's motifs have appeared on Ladurée macarons. However, since January 1, 2025, the painter's works can be freely reproduced, as they fell into the public domain seventy years after his death. Founded in 1991, Pull & Bear operates a network of 800 stores worldwide (including some 50 branches in France), and generated sales of €2.469 billion in fiscal 2024, up 4.6% on the previous year.

Portugal to invest €137mln in grid upgrades after April blackout

Authorities in Portugal announced a raft of measures on Monday to strengthen the country's electricity system following the 28 April blackout that left most of Spain and Portugal without power for several hours. The measures include €137 million of investments in the electricity grid, increasing the number of "black start" power stations and reinforcing critical infrastructure such as hospitals with solar panels and batteries. Environment and Energy Minister Maria Graça Carvalho said the plan would ensure that the Iberian nation of 10.6 million is better prepared for future emergencies. "We will be in a better position to manage the crisis and minimise its consequences," Carvalho said. The Iberian outage started shortly after 11:30 am in Portugal and 12:30 pm in Spain and lasted through nightfall, disrupting businesses, transit systems, mobile phone networks, Internet connectivity and other critical infrastructure. In just five seconds, Spain lost 15 gigawatts of electricity, or about 60% of its supply. Portugal, whose grid is connected to Spain's, also went down. Only the countries' island territories were spared. Power was fully restored in both countries the next morning. Spanish authorities said in June that an investigation found that the country's electric grid was unable to handle a surge in voltage, which triggered small grid failures in the south of Spain that cascaded into larger ones. The chain reaction eventually brought down the electric system in the two Iberian nations. Authorities didn't explain what caused the initial voltage surge. Other measures under review include a possible interconnection between Portugal and Morocco. Interconnections are high voltage transmission lines that link the electricity systems of different countries, allowing cross-border power exchanges. Spain's interconnections with Morocco and France were critical to restoring power after the April blackout. Portuguese authorities said they would increase the number of power stations with autonomous restart capability from two to four. The so-called black start power stations helped Portugal restore its power independently from Spain after the blackout. Authorities said they would spend €25 million to reinforce back-up energy sources such as solar panels and batteries at hospitals and other critical infrastructure. An independent panel of European Union experts is investigating what caused the blackout. A preliminary report published earlier this month reached similar conclusions to the Spanish investigation, that an unusual series of voltage surges in Spain and a cascading series of electricity disconnections likely triggered the event. A final report is due in October.
