
Pull & Bear brings Matisse's iconic style to life in capsule collection
The Inditex group's young fashion chain shot the campaign highlighting this product range in Nice, where the artist spent several years and where he died in 1954. The wardrobe blends casual and streetwear shapes (sweatshirts, barrel pants, overshirts, Bermuda shorts, oversized T-shirts, caps, etc.) with works that made the artist famous, such as his "Blue Nude," or his leaf and dove shapes made from cut paper.
Pull & Bear included beach towels, phone cases and bandanas in the accessories lineup, with prices ranging from €13 to €46. The brand launched the mini-collection last week at the Carrières des Lumières in Les Baux-de-Provence, hosting several influencers at the event.
On the brand's website, product information sheets state that this fashion capsule has been produced "under license," presumably with the agreement of Henri Matisse's heirs. More recently, the artist's motifs have appeared on Ladurée macarons. However, since January 1, 2025, the painter's works can be freely reproduced, as they fell into the public domain seventy years after his death.
Founded in 1991, Pull & Bear operates a network of 800 stores worldwide (including some 50 branches in France), and generated sales of €2.469 billion in fiscal 2024, up 4.6% on the previous year.

Portugal to invest €137mln in grid upgrades after April blackout
Authorities in Portugal announced a raft of measures on Monday to strengthen the country's electricity system following the 28 April blackout that left most of Spain and Portugal without power for several hours. The measures include €137 million of investments in the electricity grid, increasing the number of "black start" power stations and reinforcing critical infrastructure such as hospitals with solar panels and batteries. Environment and Energy Minister Maria Graça Carvalho said the plan would ensure that the Iberian nation of 10.6 million is better prepared for future emergencies. "We will be in a better position to manage the crisis and minimise its consequences," Carvalho said. The Iberian outage started shortly after 11:30 am in Portugal and 12:30 pm in Spain and lasted through nightfall, disrupting businesses, transit systems, mobile phone networks, Internet connectivity and other critical infrastructure. In just five seconds, Spain lost 15 gigawatts of electricity, or about 60% of its supply. Portugal, whose grid is connected to Spain's, also went down. Only the countries' island territories were spared. Power was fully restored in both countries the next morning. Spanish authorities said in June that an investigation found that the country's electric grid was unable to handle a surge in voltage, which triggered small grid failures in the south of Spain that cascaded into larger ones. The chain reaction eventually brought down the electric system in the two Iberian nations. Authorities didn't explain what caused the initial voltage surge. Other measures under review include a possible interconnection between Portugal and Morocco. Interconnections are high voltage transmission lines that link the electricity systems of different countries, allowing cross-border power exchanges. Spain's interconnections with Morocco and France were critical to restoring power after the April blackout. Portuguese authorities said they would increase the number of power stations with autonomous restart capability from two to four. The so-called black start power stations helped Portugal restore its power independently from Spain after the blackout. Authorities said they would spend €25 million to reinforce back-up energy sources such as solar panels and batteries at hospitals and other critical infrastructure. An independent panel of European Union experts is investigating what caused the blackout. A preliminary report published earlier this month reached similar conclusions to the Spanish investigation, that an unusual series of voltage surges in Spain and a cascading series of electricity disconnections likely triggered the event. A final report is due in October.

Portuguese Inditex workers strike over alleged non-compliance since 2019
Workers at the stores of Spanish business Inditex in the Portuguese district of Porto went on strike on Saturday (July 19). The workers demanded compliance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CCT) for the retail sector, which has allegedly been neglected by the group since 2019. Inditex's eight brands (Bershka, Massimo Dutti, Oysho, Pull&Bear, Stradivarius, Tempe, Zara, and Zara Home) just reported sales of 8.274 million euros, 1.5% more than the previous year. The Trade, Office and Service Workers' Union of Portugal (CESP/CGTP-IN) is accusing the Spanish group of not respecting fundamental labour rights - such as the payment of back pay owed since 2019 and the granting of compensatory rest for work done on Sundays. The organisation called for a strike between 10 am and 1 pm on Saturday, covering all eight of the conglomerate's brands. The Inditex group has 6,700 workers in Portugal who are demanding compensatory rest and back pay. The gathering of the company's employees took place in front of the NorteShopping shopping centre, in Senhora da Hora, Greater Porto, with the aim of raising awareness among customers and workers from other companies of this irregularity on the part of Inditex, which has allegedly been going on for six years. The multinational has also recently considered a long-term incentive plan in cash and shares for members of its management team, including executive directors, and guest workers of the group, with up to a maximum of 750 beneficiaries. Textile giant Inditex was created in 1985 by Amancio Ortega and his first wife Rosalía Mera and is led by the co-founder's daughter from his second marriage, Marta Ortega Pérez, who has been president of the group since 2022, and CEO Óscar García Maceiras. The business saw growth slow in the first quarter of the 2025 financial year and its net profit in the period from February 1 to April 30 this year was 1,305 million euros, 0.8% more than in the same period in 2024.
