Mads Pedersen fends off Wout van Aert to claim fourth stage win at Giro d'Italia
Mads Pedersen claimed his fourth stage victory of the Giro d'Italia after holding off Wout van Aert on an uphill sprint finish in Vicenza, with Isaac Del Toro finishing third to strengthen his grip on the Maglia Rosa leader's jersey.
Friday's 13th stage ran over 180km from Rovigo, taking in four category-four climbs.
A nine-rider breakaway built a lead of around two minutes, but was eventually pulled back in by the peloton heading towards the final 50km before Lorenzo Germani and Christian Scaroni started another attack.
Although Romain Bardet and Mathias Vacek also went for a counter heading into the final climb, there never looked enough distance to the chasing pack, who closed up during the final 500m.
Danish rider Pedersen then powered through the last sprint battle for the line ahead of Belgian Van Aert (Team Visma), with Del Toro also making another podium.
Ireland's Sam Bennett (Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale) finished 16.08 minutes down, crossing the line 145th, while Daniel Rafferty came home 89th.
In the general classification standings, Mexican del Toro (UAE Team Emirates XRG) now holds a 38-second lead over Spanish team-mate Juan Ayuso.
Italian Antonio Tiberi (Bahrain Victorious) is one minute and 18 seconds back, with Britain's Simon Yates (Team Visma) fourth and former winner Primoz Roglic (Red Bull Bora-Hansgrohe) sitting in fifth.
In the points standings, Bennett is 38th.

Two lads 'hid in toilet for 27 hours' to sneak in to Champions League final
Two Belgian men said that they hid in a toilet for over a day to sneak into the Champions League final for free. PSG beat Inter Milan in a 5-0 blowout to finally win the prestigious tournament, with 19-year-old Désiré Doué putting on a star performance with two goals and one assist. While tickets to the final were like gold dust, Belgians Neal Remmerie and Senne Haverbeke managed to sneak in via unorthodox means — sneaking into Munich's Allianz Arena the day before the final and hiding in a toilet for 27 hours, emerging when the match kicked off. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Neal & Senne (@neal_senne) Sharing the video on TikTok, the lads explained that they used a handmade 'out of order' sign to deter the stadium's workers from checking for them, but added that the wait for the match was rougher than expected. 'We had a backpack with snacks and we played around on our phones to kill time,' Neal told Belgian broadcaster VRT News. 'The lights were on all the time, and the sitting position was uncomfortable, so sleeping was almost impossible. That made it physically and mentally difficult.' The lads then heard fans using the toilets, which they saw as their cue to head to their 'seats' for the match — saying that they went through a separate ticket check before heading to the seats. Pic: Neal & Senne/Instagram 'We looked carefully at which security guard was paying the least attention,' Neal explained. 'While on the phone and with food in our hands, we just walked on, and suddenly we were inside.' Thankfully for the pair, they got in undetected and chose their seats wisely, as they ended up in the stands with PSG supporters. 'PSG won 5-0 and we were also in the supporters' section of the winning team. It was the most beautiful football match we've ever seen.' PSG won the final with a massive 5-0 win over Inter Milan. Pic:Achraf Hakimi and Désiré Doué opened up the scoring for PSG on Saturday, with the Parisians going 2-0 up heading into half time. Anyone who was looking for a competitive second half from Internazionale were left sorely disappointed, with Doué, Khvicha Kvaratshkelia and Senny Mayulu putting three more over the line for an emphatic 5-0 win.

Liverpool reject Barcelona bid for Luis Diaz
Liverpool have rebuffed an approach by Barcelona for winger Luis Diaz. The Colombia international has been a target for the LaLiga champions for some time, although he has also been attracting interest from Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr. Only last month Barca's sporting director Deco publicly named Diaz, and Manchester United's Marcus Rashford, when talking about their transfer plans. However, it is understood when the Catalan club made an approach to Liverpool on Wednesday they were told they had no intention of selling. Diaz turned 28 in January and has two years remaining on his current deal but it is believed there are currently no plans to open negotiations on any extension. However, with Darwin Nunez expected to depart this summer and the future of Federico Chiesa in doubt after a frustrating debut season in which he made just 14 appearances, Arne Slot's Premier League-winning forward line already looks like losing two of its members. The arrival of Florian Wirtz, with discussions ongoing with Bayer Leverkusen over the transfer fee after a recent £109m (€128m) bid was rejected, will likely offset the impact of that – especially as Nunez and Chiesa contributed just nine goals between them. But it is understood potentially losing a third member of the attack would only be sanctioned if there was a bid which allows Liverpool to significantly improve the team or if the player agitated for a move. Last month Diaz told American-Spanish television channel Telemundo: "For me, I'd stay however many years it takes." Liverpool have already recruited Jeremie Frimpong from Leverkusen to strengthen their right side following the departure of Trent Alexander-Arnold and are looking to bolster the left with a move for Bournemouth defender Milos Kerkez. The Cherries value the 21-year-old Hungary international, who is keen on a move to Anfield, at £45m but Liverpool's sporting director Richard Hughes is currently negotiating with his former club over the fee.
