Justice Department investigating DC police over Trump allegations of ‘fake' crime data
The Department of Justice is reportedly investigating whether Washington, D.C. officials manipulated crime data after Donald Trump accused the capital city of creating 'fake crime numbers' to undermine his federal takeover. On his Truth Social account on Monday, Trump accused D.C. officials of manipulating data to create a 'false illusion of safety.' 'This is a very bad and dangerous thing to do, and they are under serious investigation for so doing!' Trump wrote. Last week, the president declared what he called a 'crime emergency' to justify his administration taking control of the city's Metropolitan Police Department while deploying National Guard troops and federal law enforcement agents into the city's streets, claiming that the White House must 'rescue' the city from 'crime, bloodshed, bedlam and squalor and worse.' He claimed the city is overrun with 'bloodthirsty criminals, roving mobs of wild youth, drugged-out maniacs and homeless people,' though reports of violent crime in the city have plummeted, along with national downward trends of violent crime rates. The capital city 'was the most unsafe 'city' in the United States, and perhaps the World,' he wrote on Monday. 'Now, in just a short period of time, it is perhaps the safest, and getting better every single hour!' Despite the administration's claims that crime is 'out of control' in D.C., the data shows the opposite: 2024 saw the lowest violent crime rates in the capital in more than 30 years, while reports of violent crime within the first seven months of 2025 have plunged 27 percent from last year. Homicides are down 11 percent, according to city data. Those rates mirror national downward trends, according to FBI crime data released during Trump's administration.

Moment Fox News host Bret Baier gets pulled over by police in DC after Trump crackdown
Fox News anchor Bret Baier ran into some trouble with the fuzz in DC as President Donald Trump doubled-down on his crime crackdown. A video went viral on Monday showing Baier being pulled over to the side of the road by a Metropolitan police officer. The host can be seen handing over a variety of paperwork to the officer while sitting in his bright white jeep. After social media went abuzz over the video, Baier released a statement on Tuesday unveiling the reason why police pulled him over in Georgetown. 'I picked up my ringing phone as I drove past an officer while driving my wife's car in Georgetown,' Baier wrote in a post on X. Baier goes on to describe the officer as 'very professional' while adding he was not aware cameras were watching him during the encounter. 'He pointed to have me pull over - I did. He was very professional,' Baier revealed. 'I had to dig for the registration card. Got a ticket and left. I didn't know there was paparazzi,' added the television star. 🚨 LMAO! DC is SO LOCKED DOWN right now that even Fox's @BretBaier got pulled over 🤣 I'm glad you had your papers, Bret! 😂 — Nick Sortor (@nicksortor) August 19, 2025 Baier says he was pulled over by a D.C police officer in Georgetown for talking on his phone while driving One eagle-eyed X user told the Fox host that he appeared to have a 'scowl' on his face during the traffic stop. Baier responded, 'That's because I didn't have my glasses to read the registration card.' In recent weeks, Trump has issued an executive order that launched an unprecedented law enforcement crackdown in DC by marshalling the FBI, ICE, and National Guard troops. Since signing the order, law enforcement has made hundreds of arrests in DC that include illegal migrants and individuals with outstanding warrants. Governors in GOP-dominated states, including Mississippi, Louisiana, West Virginia, South Carolina, and Ohio have sent over hundreds of National Guard troops to help the administration's efforts in DC. Approximately 1,100 National Guard troops from six different states, as well as troves of law enforcement, are roaming D.C. at the expense of the federal government. The video of Baier's police traffic pullover was posted on Instagram by the user Mollaan Babbington. It's fair to say the 'Special Report' host will be switching over to Bluetooth for now on while driving through the swamp. 'Already done. That day. Thanks,' Baier wrote to an X user advising him to try hands free Bluetooth.
