Coronation Street in 'favouritism row' on set as angry cast member 'hits out' at co-stars
Drama is reportedly simmering among Coronation Street cast members amid claims that only a chosen few are being granted access to high-paying brand deals
Tensions are reportedly boiling over behind the scenes at Coronation Street, as accusations of preferential treatment have sparked major discontent among the cast.
Sources claim a growing divide has formed after stars Samia Longchambon and Sair Khan were chosen for lucrative brand collaborations - opportunities others on the show claim they were denied.
Samia, 42, recently made an appearance in a promotional video for Marks & Spencer, promoting seasonal treats from its café alongside her husband Sylvain Longchambon, best known from Dancing on Ice. Meanwhile, Sair, 37, showcased a high-end Bertazzoni oven worth £2,500 in a slick Instagram post.
While ITV enforces strict restrictions on external endorsements for its soap stars, requiring all commercial activity to pass executive approval, not everyone seems to be playing by the same rulebook as at disgruntled insiders on the soap have claimed that other cast members are fed up.
Frustrated actors say the rules are inconsistently applied, with some actors allegedly blocked from even the smallest form of brand deals. One cast member, who claims two of her endorsement opportunities were vetoed this year, didn't hold back when speaking to The Sun: 'It's one rule for the polished PR favourites, and another for the rest of us. If you're not part of the golden circle, forget it," they said.
"They wouldn't let most of us even do a teeth-whitening collaboration, meanwhile Samia's out there posing with pastries. It's a total p**s take.'
The cast member continued: 'We've been told time and time again: no ads, no endorsements - not so much as a candle on Instagram. But then Samia pops up in a full-blown promo for M&S and everyone's just supposed to pretend it's normal?
"People are keeping quiet as they don't want to rock the boat or get the boot but there's a lot of anger. Why are some allowed to cash in while the rest of us struggle?'
Samia has portrayed Maria Connor since the early 2000s, while Sair joined the cast in 2014 as Alya Nazir. According to internal policy, all outside gigs must receive prior sign-off and must align with ITV's commercial obligations and protect character integrity.
The behind-the-scenes friction comes at a challenging time for the legendary soap, currently navigating significant financial constraints. As previously reported, producers are scaling back filming days, shifting actors to part-time status, and stretching scripts in an effort to control costs and boost profitability.
When approached for comment, an ITV spokesperson told The Mirror: "We do not discuss individual cases, but the cast are aware that all requests for commercial deals go through an approvals process and are dealt with on a case by case basis."

Serena Williams and her husband Alexis Ohanian have shared some snaps after attending a wedding in Scotland. The former tennis star, 43, and her hubby, 42, who is the co-founder of Reddit, travelled over from the States to attend a friend's wedding with the pair making their love for Scotland clear as Serena wrote online: "The Scots truly made this experience one for the books." Alex even went all out for the occasion and chose to don a traditional Scots kilt for the special day which Serena definitely seemed to approve of. Taking to Instagram to share a sweet photo of the couple posing outside of the unknown wedding venue, Serena wrote: "Dear Scotland! it was well worth seeing @AlexisOhanian in a kilt! "What a stud! Thank you so much. #ScotlandWedding #love #happilyeverafter #newlyweds #weddingguest #kilt." The tennis pro looked stunning in a black and nude lace dress, with a matching headscarf and shaggy shawl around her arms and black pointed toe black heels. Delighted fans raced to comment on Serena's snaps from her Scottish trip as one wrote: "Glad you enjoyed your time in Scotland. Best country in the world. Slightly biased opinion." Another replied: "Scottish people always have a great time and are friendly." A third chimed in: "Best place for a wedding." Somebody else added: "You were queen of the Ceilidh Scottish dance floor!" High profile celebs such as Kim Kardashian, Beyonce and Eva Longoria all attended the lavish event. And it seems Serena's love for her hubby is just as strong as ever as she referred to him as a "stud" in his kilt. Her Instagram followers were quick to agree with her remark as one commented: "Lol. Alex is wearing that kilt. Looks amazing y'all!!!"

During an open conversation, Ray spoke about his time living in Los Angeles and how the artificial buzz of Hollywood ultimately drove him back to the UK. He said: 'I couldn't live in LA, it's constant,' adding: 'Even the guy who puts petrol in your car works in the industry. It's like every two minutes, it's all they want to talk about. The GB News star, 65, was joined by co-presenter Paul Coyte and tough guy actor Ray Winstone on the latest episode of his podcast Things We Like Eamonn jumped in to express his dislike for the fake relationships he has found in the entertainment industry. The presenter said in a mocking tone: '''I don't like this character, I don't like so and so, I like that person, I didn't get on with them''.' He went on: 'That's what the business is based on. I mean, I'm like you [Ray]. I get myself into trouble because if I don't like someone, they'll know I don't like them.' 'And there are so many horrible people that you end up with. People say: ''Oh, he's lovely, he's fantastic'',' he added. Sharing his candid views on celebrity genuineness, he said: 'If they say to me: 'What's that Ray Winstone like?' 'I'll say he is lovely and he is fantastic and people will believe me because I wouldn't say it if you weren't, but so many are just false, false, false.' While all three men agreed on the issue, they stopped short of naming anyone directly connected to their views. In 2021, Eamonn left This Morning to join GB News after 15 years presenting the ITV show alongside his then wife Ruth Langsford. Noting that 'all good things come to an end', a source told The Mirror that Eamonn's departure 'came at just the right moment for both him and ITV'. It was revealed in November that Eamonn and now ex-wife Ruth Langsford, who filled in for Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield on Fridays, had been cut from their weekly slot to be replaced with Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary. At the time, Eamonn and Ruth both sent out an identical statement which read: 'It's a changing of the guard on Fridays from January. We hope you make Alison and Dermot as welcome as you've made us over the years. 'Have a Ball you two!... It's not Goodbye from us, it's simply Au Revoir until the next half term.' Eamonn, born in Belfast in 1959, had been a mainstay on This Morning alongside his then partner Ruth since 2006. He previously fronted ITV's breakfast show GMTV, hosting its first ever broadcast in 1993. He appeared alongside fellow ITV stalwarts Kate Garraway and Lorraine Kelly. But he left the long-running show in 2005, stating it had become too celebrity focused and no longer covered important news. The presenter then moved to Sky's Sunrise which he hosted with Charlotte Hawkins, who also later defected to ITV. The star also returned to the channel in 2006 with Ruth as This Morning's Friday presenters.

Love Island fans left saying same thing after Shea's brutal swipe at co-star
After a tense recoupling ceremony last night, two Islanders were left facing elimination. Blu and Shea had to to convince their fellow Islanders that they deserved to stay in the villa while the other goes home Shea has launched a cutting attack on his co-star Blu tonight in an attempt to secure his place in the Love Island villa, wich had fans saying the same thing. The pair were both left single after the recoupling ceremony that aired yesterday (June 12), leaving them vulnerable to being dumped from the island. In a surprise twist, the boys received a text saying that it was down to Shea and Blu to decide which one of them would stay on the ITV dating show, and which one would walk away. Unsurprisingly, this escalated into a standoff as neither of them is willing to call a time on their experience. While both Islanders started off by gently making their case to stay, things soon escalated and got personal. Blu started off by telling Shea he feels it's more important for him to stay in the villa as he has been here for longer, and therefore, bonded with his fellow cast members more. He added: "I haven't had that opportunity to properly form a bond with a girl…I think I deserve the opportunity to explore." But Shea quickly fired back with a scathing remark that shocked viewers. The scaffolder told Blu: "You've been here longer, that means you've had more of a chance than me to get to know these people. That says a lot in itself." Viewers took to X to share their surprise at the ugly turn the competition took, with one saying: "Shea may be dry but I'm still happy he was chosen to stay over Blu." "Shea I'm glad you're here over Blu but you're quite boring. Megan has too much energy for him #loveisland," said a second. Meanwhile, a third went on to write: "Blu going was absolutely the right decision. Shea hasn't had any time to get to know people and there's 3 bombshells coming in. It's actually a shite twist considering the new bombshells - what was the point? We just lost Sophie so should have given it a few more days #LoveIsland." After realising that Shea was willing to insult him in order to stay in the villa, Blu hit back with a jab of his own, saying: "I don't think in here, there's someone for you." However, Shea disagreed, responding: "I think if a girl walked in I could definitely take it somewhere." This also seemed like a swipe at Blu, who tried and failed to start a romance with Shakira before the recoupling ceremony. Blu has been paired up with the classy Scottish Alima, but after neither of them felt a spark and agreed it was more of a friendship couple, he decided to look for love elsewhere. When Shakira was left single earlier in the week he stepped forward to show his interest in her, and although she chose Harry, Blu seemed determined to win her over in the end. After a game of dares around the fire pit, he pulled her aside for a heart-to-heart in the Hideaway, where he revealed he wanted to kiss her but decided to wait until they were somewhere more private. The pair then locked lips, and Blu was quick to show off about it to Shakira's partner Harry, telling him "things went well, and she enjoyed it". However, Shakira later admitted she felt guilty about the incident and decided to cut things off with Blu, leaving him alone at the recoupling ceremony. Meanwhile, Shea has not yet struck up a romance with any of the girls after arriving at the villa two days ago as a bombshell alongside Remell. However, before coming on Love Island, Shea made it clear he is looking for "something more serious" and is hoping to find a partner who will be accepting of his young son, so it makes sense that the gym buff is moving more slowly.
