Ex-Raiders receiver Henry Ruggs apologizes to family of woman he killed in car crash
Former Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Henry Ruggs III said he wishes he could "turn back the hands of time" while speaking at an event Tuesday about his 2021 drunk driving car crash that left a woman dead.
Ruggs, 26, was granted special release from prison to speak at a Hope For Prisoners event, the group said in a Facebook post.
He was sentenced to three to 10 years after he pleaded guilty in 2023 to a felony count of DUI resulting in death and misdemeanor manslaughter. The crash was the result of drunk driving and speeding and killed 23-year-old Tina Tintor.
"It's an unfortunate situation that I'm sure we all wish we can make some choices again and turn back the hands of time," he said in a livestream of the event. "I never saw myself in that type of situation."
Ruggs said he never planned on driving that night.
Police said Ruggs was driving his Corvette at 156 mph while drunk when he crashed into Tintor's vehicle on Nov. 2, 2021. She died of thermal injuries after the car caught fire, the medical examiner's office said. Her dog also died in the crash.
When asked what he would say to Tintor's family, Ruggs responded: "I would love for them to meet the real Henry Ruggs and not the one that was escaping from something."
"I sincerely apologize for not only being a part of that situation, but the fact that my face is always in the news, my face is always in the newspaper, so they have to constantly be reminded of the situation," he continued.
The former NFL athlete, who attended the University of Alabama, was drafted by the Raiders in 2020, but was dropped from the team hours after the crash. Ruggs said he would love the opportunity to play football again and would be open to returning to the Raiders.
"I would love to come and go out gracefully," he said. "I don't feel like I ended on the terms that are meaningful to me and that I value."

Baltimore County gym teacher accused of inappropriately touching students
A 28-year-old Baltimore County gym teacher is facing charges for allegedly inappropriately touching students, according to police. Jordan Adams, a teacher at Northwest Academy in Pikesville, has been charged with multiple counts of second-degree assault. He is being held in the Baltimore County Detention Center without bond. Police said the allegations happened at the school. Investigators are asking family members of students to contact the police department at 410-887-7720 if they have additional information regarding Adams or believe their child may also be a victim. More gym teachers are accused of sexual assault Two other school gym teachers were arrested within the past couple of weeks on charges of sex crimes against students. Police said 40-year-old Sean Brooks,, a gym teacher at Perry Hall High School, allegedly sexually assaulted a student on school property. According to the school, Brooks has worked at Perry Hall High School since 2017. School leaders said he is on administrative leave and is barred from Baltimore County Public Schools property. "Ensuring a safe learning environment for our students is our top priority," Perry Hall Principal Abbey Campbell said in a letter to families. On June 2, Baltimore County police said a middle school physical education teacher was arrested on charges of sexually abusing children. Roger Myers, 61, allegedly abused the students at Deep Creek Middle School in Essex. The school said Myers was placed on administrative leave in January. "These charges are deeply troubling," Deep Creek Middle School principal Laura Kelly said in a letter to families. "BCPS holds its employees to a high standard of character, and this alleged behavior is abhorrent and completely unacceptable." Myers has been employed with the Baltimore County Public Schools since 1996 and has been employed at Deep Creek Middle School since July 2024. Anne Arundel teacher acquitted of charges On Tuesday, June 17, Matthew Schlegel, a suspended elementary school teacher in Anne Arundel County, was cleared of sexual abuse allegations. Schlegel is a third-grade math teacher at Severna Park Elementary School. According to the school district, Schlegel will return to "paid status," but officials are still determining whether he should remain employed. Five children testified during the five-week trial. Schlegel was ordered by the judge to be released from jail. Protesters rallied outside the courthouse Wednesday to oppose the not-guilty verdict and to advocate for child sex abuse survivors. The jury deliberated for three days, with jurors struggling to agree on several counts. On Monday, the jury told the judge they were deadlocked on four charges. After agreeing on one more charge, they told the judge they doubted they would come to a consensus on the others. Court officials are expected to share more information about how the three remaining charges will be handled during a status hearing on July 1.

Police identify suspect they are looking for in torching of NYPD vehicles in Brooklyn
Police say the suspect they are looking for in the burning of nearly a dozen NYPD vehicles in Brooklyn last week is no stranger to law enforcement. The search continues for Jakhi Lodgson-McCray, who has been arrested several times before at protests in the city. Mayor Eric Adams said the NYPD has linked the June 12 attack in Bushwick to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement protests taking place nationwide. When asked what evidence the police have of that, Adams replied, "There's a clear indication that someone had firsthand knowledge of this and taking credit for it, and that's going to be part of our investigation." Police said they're also investigating whether an NYPD transit van set on fire outside Kellogg's Diner in Williamsburg on Wednesday morning is also connected to the suspect. 11 NYPD vehicles torched on June 12 Surveillance video from the early morning hours of the day of the attack shows a man climbing a fence at a parking lot for department vehicles near the corner of Central and DeKalb avenues, roughly a block away from the 83rd Precinct. Some neighbors said the footage shows the suspect pacing up and down the block, and then using a table to jump over the fence to access the lot. The person in the video is wearing all black. Police say 11 vehicles were set on fire by what appears to have been homemade incendiary devices. A van and multiple SUVs were among those damaged, including several marked as police vehicles and two that were unmarked. Some were charred beyond recognition, while others looked like their windows were shattered. No injuries were reported. Adams said three other vehicles were found with fire-starters on them that did not ignite. A torch lighter was also found at the scene.
