Man held for killing coworker in Sikkims Pakyong district
The incident took place in the district's Pakyong Bazaar, where both men worked as construction labourers and shared a room, police said.
Police identified the deceased as Bijay Chettri, a resident of Namcheypong.
According to police, Bijay's head was allegedly smashed with a rock on July 24.

Police arrest key accused in 2014 Bejai shootout linked to Ravi Pujari gang
Mangaluru (Karnataka), Jul 27 (PTI) A fugitive accused in the 2014 shootout at Bharati Builders' office in Bejai, Mangaluru– allegedly orchestrated by associates of underworld gangster Ravi Pujari–has been arrested after nearly a decade on the run, police said on Sunday. Acting on reliable inputs and under the guidance of the City Police Commissioner, a team from Urwa Police Station, including Inspector Venugopal and constables Pramod, Narayan, and Govindraj, apprehended the accused Ganesh Sakat in Pandharpur, Maharashtra, Police said in a release. Sakat was produced before the court, and has been remanded to judicial custody, it said. The case, registered at Urwa Police Station, under sections 447 (Criminal trespass), 120(B) (criminal conspiracy), 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 27 of the Arms Act. The accused, a native of Karad in Maharashtra's Satara district, had been absconding since 2015 after failing to appear before the JMFC 3rd Court in Mangaluru, which subsequently issued a warrant for his arrest. Police revealed that the accused is also wanted in another case registered at Kavoor Police Station. Additionally, he faces charges under the Arms Act in Karad, Maharashtra. Digital arrest, cyber fraud: UP STF nabs two gang members from Maharashtra
Continuing its crackdown on cyber criminals, the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) has arrested two members of a notorious gang involved in digital arrest and cyber fraud. The accused, identified as Muhammad Iqbal Balasahib (47) and Shain Iqbal Balasahib (42), were arrested from a flat in a residential building on Mira Road, in Maharashtra's Thane district on Sunday and were brought to Lucknow for investigation, officials said. (For representation) Describing the gang's modus operandi, a senior STF official said the duo impersonated police and narcotics officers, using WhatsApp calls and video conferencing to deceive victims. They would allege that the victim's name was linked to illegal activities and demand money to settle the matter. In one such case, they defrauded a Lucknow resident, Dr BN Singh, of ₹95 lakh. An FIR was lodged at the local cyber crime police station in April. According to a press note shared with the media, the STF's cyber team, led by additional superintendent of police (ASP) Vishal Vikram Singh, tracked down the accused after analysing technical evidence and receiving tips from informants. The release stated that the team raided the suspects' flat in Mira Road and seized two laptops, three mobile phones, seven pen drives, three hard disks, six ATM cards, two Aadhaar cards, two computer mice, and a laptop charger, along with ₹450. Officials said the STF is now examining the seized electronic devices and probing the accused's bank accounts and digital wallets. Efforts are underway to apprehend other members of the gang. The accused have been charged under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the IT Act. They are currently in custody, having been brought to Lucknow on transit remand.

Kerala prison officer suspended over remarks on notorious convict
Thiruvananthapuram, Jul 27 (PTI) The Kerala Home Department on Sunday suspended a senior prison officer citing gross indiscipline over some of his revelations in connection with a notorious convict, who escaped from the Kannur central prison two days ago and was caught later. Abdul Sathar I, who was serving as a Deputy Prison Officer at the special sub-jail in Kottarakara, was suspended from the service with immediate effect by the Deputy Inspector General of Prisons, according to a government order. The copy of the order was issued to the media by the Chief Minister's Office (CMO). In the order, it was mentioned that the officer, while talking to a Malayalam television channel recently, said that Govindachamy, alias Govindaswamy (41), who escaped from Kannur Central Jail on Friday, had declared much before that he would jump the prison. The officer claimed that the notorious convict, serving a life term in the sensational 2011 Soumya murder case, had threatened to rape his family members if he escaped from the jail. During the TV interview, the jail official further said that it was better that Govindachamy be killed and if there was no executioner, he himself was ready to become the hangman. The order pointed out that at a time when negative reports galore against the department, the statements of the particular officer have put it in more trouble and amounted to demoralise other officials. The statements were in violation of various provisions of the government officials' service rules and a circular in connection with prison rules. Stating that the official was already facing probe over some other issues, the order also made it clear that his actions were gross breach of discipline. Govindachamy escaped from Kannur Central Jail on July 25 between 4.15 am and 6.30 am and was recaptured within city limits at around 9.30 am. He was shifted to Viyyur Central Jail in Thrissur on July 26 following the incident. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Saturday ordered a comprehensive investigation into the jailbreak from Kannur Central Prison by Govindachamy. A 23-year-old woman from Manjakkad near Shornur, was raped and murdered by Govindachamy while travelling on a passenger train from Ernakulam to Shornur on February 1, 2011.
