Marathon has been delayed indefinitely after rocky Alpha playtest

Digital Trends17-06-2025
After hosting an Alpha playtest and taking in community feedback, Bungie has announced that Marathon will no longer be launching on September 23 as was originally planned. Currently, the extraction shooter has no set release date, but the team is committed to hosting more playtests to address community concerns and add new features.
The official Bungie news post breaks the news that the development team has made the difficult choice to delay Marathon, but does not give another timeframe for when we can expect the game to launch. The reasons appear to be based on player feedback, as the post reads, 'Through every comment and real-time conversation on social media and Discord, your voice has been strong and clear. We've taken this to heart, and we know we need more time to craft Marathon into the game that truly reflects your passion. After much discussion within our Dev team, we've made the decision to delay the September 23rd release.'

It isn't all bad news, however. The dev team outlines a clear roadmap of what it plans to improve or add over the coming months to make Marathon as good as possible. Some highlights include new types of loot and dynamic events on runs, adding more narrative elements to interact with in the world that more closely match the original lore, a better solo player experience, and proximity chat.
The post concludes stating that we will hear more about progress on Marathon sometime this Fall, which is also when a new release date is promised. This heavily implies that the game will be pushed into 2026, but we will wait for full confirmation from the team in a few months.
Marathon was met with a mixed reception when it debuted its gameplay and hosted an Alpha test earlier this year. Despite never announcing a price, many were already hesitant that it wouldn't be worth the asking price based on what was shown. For now, it seems like Bungie is taking all that feedback seriously and doing its best to make Marathon a hit when it does finally come out. Whether or not that comes to pass, however, is yet to be seen.

The Palo Alto-CyberArk Deal Is On. Here's Why CyberArk Shares Are Slipping.

A big cybersecurity deal that fired up investors earlier this week is now official. Palo Alto Networks (PANW) on Wednesday said it would acquire CyberArk (CYBR) in a cash-and-stock deal that values the latter company at about $25 billion. The deal has Palo Alto paying $45 in cash, as well as 2.2005 shares of its stock, for each CyberArk share; that comes out to about a 9% premium to CyberArk's Tuesday's close. (Visible Alpha data puts CyberArk's market value at a bit under $22 billion.) Palo Alto said it expects the deal to close in the second half of its next fiscal year, which starts in August. It's projected to improve gross margins immediately and to lift free cash flow per share in fiscal 2028. Shares of CyberArk were recently down less than 1%, while Palo Alto's were off nearly 7%. While the move in CyberArk may seem unusual for a company set to be purchased, it reflects in part a jump already seen this week when reports that a deal was in the works hit investors' screens. The shares closed yesterday about 15% above where they ended Friday. "Our market entry strategy has always been to enter categories at their inflection point, and we believe that moment for Identity Security is now," Palo Alto CEO Nikesh Arora said in a statement. ("Identity Security" is broadly the field of managing access to digital tools, services and platforms and defending against threats.) The contract also addresses severance pay in the event of job cuts due to AI rollouts and the issue of worker safety on late-night/early-morning commutes by guaranteeing extra pay for working overnight shifts, long days and weeks and standby shifts, WGA East said Wednesday in announcing the deal. The contract was unanimously ratified by the 46-member bargaining unit. The WGA East's CBS News Digital union covers writers, reporters, editors and producers at CBS News' digital platforms including its mobile website, social media channels and the CBS News app. WGA East also reps staffers at CBS News and CBS 24/7 (formerly CBSN). Highlights from the CBS News Digital contract include: Either a 3% increase or a ratification bonus in year 1 of the contract; a guaranteed minimum 3.5% pay increase in year 2 and a 3% pay increase in year 3 of the contract; guaranteed minimum severance for layoffs (two weeks pay for every year of service with a minimum of eight weeks); and a path for promotion to senior reporter. The new contract also codifies existing remote-work policies for current employees through Dec. 31, 2027, including guaranteeing employees working on a hybrid basis will not be required to work more than two days in-office; extra pay for working for short turnaround times, standby assignments and upgraded work; the option to be paid out for earned comp time; and employment protections regarding generative AI, including 1.5 times severance if union members are laid off because of its implementation. 'After organizing in 2024 with the goal of securing critical workplace protections, we're proud to have won a strong first contract for our members at CBS News Digital,' Beth Godvik, WGA East VP of broadcast/cable/streaming news, said in a statement. 'Establishing protections like guaranteed raises and pay that actually matches the job duties being performed will allow our members to build sustainable careers in News.' WGA East, affiliated with the AFL-CIO, represents more than 7,500 members working in film, TV, news, podcasts and online media. In WGA East's broadcast/cable/streaming news sector, the union also reps workers at ABC News, Audacy (WCBS-AM, WBBM-AM and KNX-AM), 1010 WINS, Fox 5 WNYW-TV, MSNBC, NBC Promo Writers, Thirteen Productions (Thirteen/WNET) and WBBM/CBS 2 News.
