UP: Woman digitally arrested for over 42 hours rescued
Bareilly (UP), Aug 13 (PTI) A 62-year-old woman who was 'digitally arrested" by cyber fraudsters at her home for nearly 42 hours, was rescued by police on Wednesday.
Scammers, posing as government officials, accused Gulshan Kumari of being involved in money laundering case and threatened her with arrest.
They allegedly demanded Rs 70 lakh and ordered her not to leave home, monitoring her over phone and video calls, police said.
Acting on a tip-off regarding the 'digital arrest", a police team reached her house in Premnagar and rescued her. Officers counselled her about cyber fraud and advised against sharing personal details with unknown callers.

Mathura and Vrindavan fortified for Janmashtami: 5,000 police deployed, 300+ CCTV cameras installed and heavy vehicles banned. Uttar Pradesh's temple towns of Mathura and Vrindavan transformed into a virtual fortress, with thousands of police personnel deployed across the cities as lakhs of devotees poured to celebrate Shri Krishna Janmashtami. The authorities stepped up vigilance to ensure smooth and safe celebrations in the entire braj area. To maintain law and order, district authorities divided the city in four zones and 18 sectors, deploying more than 5,000 police officers and personnel, news agency PTI reported. More than 300 CCTV cameras have been installed in and around the famous temples. Additional security arrangements have been made at the ShriKrishna Janmabhoomi, Dwarkadheesh Temple and Banke Bihari Temple. Entry of all heavy vehicles into Mathura has been banned, and vehicle movement on routes leading to the Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi temple has been significantly restricted due to heavy crowds, officials said. Social media activity is under strict watch, and the inner area of the Janmasthan temple has been designated a red zone with extra police presence. The yellow and green zones around it are manned by plain-clothed personnel, including women officers. Barricades have been set up at multiple points, where police and Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) teams are screening visitors to prevent the entry of unwanted elements, they said. Entry to the Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi Temple is now through the northern gate (Govind Nagar side), while the main gate is being used for exit. Mobile phones, key rings, wristwatches, and any electronic devices are strictly prohibited inside. Devotees have been advised not to carry items like shoes, bags, matches, lighters or umbrellas to the temple, and to leave them safely at their accommodation to avoid difficulties during the exit, which will be from a different point. To assist pilgrims, police have launched a website to provide information on temples, routes, restrictions and other guidelines. Railways have extended services and added temporary halts to accommodate the influx of devotees arriving from Delhi, Bhopal and other cities. Several trains will run to Mathura until August 18. Additional temporary halts have been provided at Bhuteshwar station for multiple long-distance trains, including Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus-Amritsar, Korba-Amritsar, Puri-Yoganagari Rishikesh and Agra Cantt-New Delhi. The Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation has also increased buses frequency between Mathura and Agra to meet the surge in passenger demand. Celebrated with great enthusiasm across India and by Hindus worldwide, Janmashtami usually falls in August, on the eighth day (Ashtami) of the Krishna Paksha (dark fortnight) in the month of Bhadrapada. This year marks the 5252nd birth anniversary of Lord Krishna. The Krishna Mahotsav 2025 began on Friday morning with a grand procession from the Shri Krishna Janmasthan temple, featuring 300-400 folk artistes performing along the route. The procession started from the main gate, passed through Deeg Gate, Roopam Cinema Tiraha, Govind Nagar police station, Mahavidya Colony, and Potra Kund, before returning to the main gate. All important temples in Mathura have been decorated with colourful lights and flowers. DRI arrestes trader for 13.79 crore walnut import scam in Mumbai
Mumbai: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) arrested Bhushan Suryakant Sawant, proprietor of M/s Mahant Enterprises, for allegedly diverting duty-free imported inshell walnuts into the domestic market in violation of the Advance Authorization Scheme, causing a revenue loss of over Rs 13.79 crore. Investigations revealed that Mahant Enterprises obtained two Advance Authorization licenses from the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) on 24 December 2024 to import inshell walnuts duty-free, with the obligation to export processed walnut kernels. However, analysis of e-way bill data indicated that in many cases, the declared movement of goods never occurred, and only paper-based transfers were generated to support fictitious transactions. Several consignments were shown as transported to Leh Cold Storage Pvt. Ltd., Sonipat—an undeclared business location. Searches there found no stock belonging to Mahant Enterprises, despite e-way bills showing dispatches worth ₹9.78 crore. Bihar Police arrests 2023 constable recruitment exam paper leak mastermind
Patna, Aug 15 (PTI) The Economic Offences Unit (EOU) of Bihar Police has arrested Rajkishor Kumar, the alleged mastermind of the 2023 constable recruitment examination paper leak, officials said on Friday. Rajkishor, who was also allegedly involved in several other paper leak cases, was carrying a bounty of Rs 1 lakh on his head. The EOU has also frozen Rs 1.5 crore lying in his bank account. 'Rajkishor, a resident of Bihar's Arwal district, was arrested from the state capital on Wednesday night. Police also seized a list, in which roll numbers, admit card details and other information of several candidates were written, from his possession," Manavjit Singh Dhillon, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of the EOU, told PTI. On the basis of the analysis of Rajkishor's bank account, the EOU has also identified 62 candidates who made payments to him, the DIG said, adding they will soon be sent notices for questioning. The Bihar constable recruitment examination was held on October 1, 2023. The Central Selection Board of Constables (CSBC) had cancelled the exam due to paper leak. The EOU, which is probing the case, has already arrested several persons from West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh as part of its investigation into the matter. The recruitment exam was scheduled to fill 21,391 vacancies in the constable post in different wings of the state police. The exam was conducted at 529 exam centres in 37 districts of Bihar on October 1 and a large number of aspirants had appeared.
