Hollywood bribe? Derrick Henry offered movie role—but only if he breaks NFL record again

When Derrick Henry signed with the Baltimore Ravens in 2025, all eyes were on his chemistry with Lamar Jackson and whether the 30-year-old power back still had enough in the tank. But in a surprise twist, Henry's next big play might not be on the field—it could be on the big screen.

superfan gets an unexpected movie offer with a catch
Henry recently appeared on The Dan Patrick Show and shared a lighter side of himself that fans rarely get to see. During the conversation, Patrick flashed a 'Happy Gilmore' hoodie, sparking a moment of fanboy excitement from Henry. 'Hey, can you do me a favor? If you ever see him again, tell him I'm a really big fan,' Henry said, referring to Sandler.
Turns out, Patrick isn't just any sports host—he's good friends with Sandler and has appeared in several of his films, including The Waterboy and Just Go With It.
Patrick then delivered a surprise: 'I'm going to text him today and ask if he'll send a video. And then I'm going to send it to the Ravens… And if you get to 2,000 yards, I'll get you in a Sandler movie.'
Henry's response? 'Say no more. Remember that now. The bet is on. No pressure at all.'

Can Derrick Henry make NFL history again?
If Henry pulls it off, it wouldn't just be a footnote—it would be a historic feat. Only eight players in NFL history have ever rushed for 2,000 yards in a single season.
None have done it twice. Henry himself reached 2,027 yards in 2020 with the Titans. Achieving it again would cement his legacy and potentially land him alongside Sandler in Happy Gilmore 2.
Henry wouldn't be the first NFL star to join the Sandler cinematic universe. Chiefs tight end
Travis Kelce
has a cameo in Happy Gilmore 2, where he startles the lead character as a hotel worker. Originally, Sandler even joked about casting Kelce as his son in the movie—an idea that fell through due to scheduling conflicts.
'The whole thing was to get to hang out with Travis,' Sandler admitted.

With Kelce's cameo locked in and Henry chasing a record-breaking season, the line between NFL stardom and Hollywood fame is growing thinner. If Henry can bulldoze his way to another 2,000-yard season, don't be surprised if he's next to shout 'BOO' on screen—just like Kelce did.
