Guru Nanak Darbar Gurudwara Dubai and Dr Bubbles Kandhari honoured with prestigious awards at the Dubai Quality Group Ceremony
Guru Nanak Darbar Gurudwara Dubai received the UAE Innovation Award by the Dubai Quality Group, acknowledging the Gurudwara's ongoing efforts in fostering innovation and promoting the spirit of tolerance within the UAE community. The award was presented during a grand ceremony, where Surender Singh Kandhari, chairman of Guru Nanak Darbar Gurudwara Dubai, expressed his gratitude for this recognition.
"We are truly humbled to receive the UAE Innovation Award, which reinforces our commitment to serving the community and promoting harmony," said Surender Singh Kandhari.
Dr Bubbles Kandhari, an influential leader in the community, was also honoured with the Emirates Women Award 2024 by Dubai Quality Group for her outstanding contributions to social service. This recognition highlights her dedication to empowering others and promoting humanitarian work, especially within the Sikh community.
"It is an immense honour to receive the Emirates Women Award, and I share this achievement with all the incredible people who have supported and inspired me along the way. The work we do at Guru Nanak Darbar Gurudwara and through my other philanthropic endeavours is driven by love, service, and a shared belief in making a positive difference in the world," said Dr Bubbles Kandhari.
The awards, presented in a ceremony attended by Sunjay Sudhir, Ambassador of India to the UAE; dignitaries and industry leaders, serve as a testament to the exceptional work of Guru Nanak Darbar Gurudwara Dubai and Dr Bubbles Kandhari in promoting community welfare and contributing to the UAE's vision of tolerance and coexistence.
Both recipients have long been at the forefront of initiatives that bring people together and foster understanding, with Guru Nanak Darbar Gurudwara Dubai being a hub for interfaith dialogue and humanitarian action across the UAE.

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), in collaboration with Joby Aviation, announced the successful completion of the region's first Aerial Taxi test flight. The test was conducted at a dedicated desert site in Dubai. Joby Aviation is a leading developer of electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft. His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, reported that the flight reflects the UAE's leadership in adopting transformative technologies. He noted that this milestone aligns with the strategic vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. It also supports the Dubai Economic Agenda D33 and the UAE's sustainable development goals. The aircraft demonstrated its performance in the local environment. Officials revealed that the test is part of daily operations preparing for the commercial launch of Aerial Taxi services. Key dignitaries present at the event included: H.E. Mattar Al Tayer, Director General, Chairman of the RTA Board H.E. Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, Director General, GCAA H.E. Ahmed Ali Al Balqeizi, Dubai Civil Aviation Authority H.E. Ibrahim Hussain Ahli, Dubai Air Navigation Services The Joby Aerial Taxi is powered entirely by electricity. It features vertical take-off and landing, zero operating emissions, and low noise levels. The aircraft includes six rotors, four battery packs, and seats for four passengers plus a pilot. It can reach a top speed of 320 km/h and travel up to 160 km. The design is tailored for urban use, needing minimal space for take-off and landing at vertiports. Officials also reviewed test facilities developed with Shamal Holding. These include a vertiport, flight monitoring hangar, and advanced electric charging stations. JoeBen Bevirt, Founder and CEO of Joby Aviation, and Ahmed Hashim Bahrozyan, CEO of the RTA Public Transport Agency, presented the project timeline. It was revealed that commercial Aerial Taxi services are set to launch in 2026. Operations will begin near Dubai International Airport. H.E. Mattar Al Tayer stated that the trial reflects Dubai's push for innovative and sustainable public transport. He reported that the Aerial Taxi will offer premium, fast, and safe travel. A trip from Dubai International Airport to Palm Jumeirah is expected to take 12 minutes, compared to 45 minutes by car. The system will integrate with existing transport modes like metro, e-scooters, and bicycles. JoeBen Bevirt added that Dubai is a launchpad for global aerial mobility and a key partner in making clean, quiet aviation part of everyday life. In early 2024, the RTA signed an agreement with the General Civil Aviation Authority, Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, Skyports Infrastructure, and Joby Aviation. This agreement positions Dubai as the first city globally to deploy Aerial Taxis through a complete VTOL infrastructure network. The company confirmed that the testing in Dubai follows two years of flight trials at Edwards Air Force Base in the United States. With more than 40,000 miles of test flights and multiple piloted transitions, Joby Aviation aims to make fast, clean, and accessible air travel a reality.

India's Modi says he's received invitation for G7 summit in Canada
India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi said he looked forward to meeting his Canadian counterpart Mark Carney during the Group of Seven summit, after the latter invited him to the gathering over a phone call on Friday. India is not a part of the grouping but can be invited as a guest to its annual gathering, which will be held this year in Kananaskis in the Canadian province of Alberta, from June 15-17. "Glad to receive a call from Prime Minister (Carney)...thanked him for the invitation to the G7 Summit in Kananaskis later this forward to our meeting at the Summit," Modi said in a post on X. The invitation suggests that both sides want to rebuild ties, which have nosedived in the last two years after Canada accused India of involvement undefined in a Sikh separatist leader's murder, and of attempting to interfere in the country's 2019 and 2021 elections. New Delhi denied both allegations. Modi also stated in his post that India and Canada would work together "with renewed vigour, guided by mutual respect and shared interests". India is Canada's 10th largest trading partner and Canada is the biggest exporter of pulses, including lentils, to India. Ottawa holds the rotational G7 presidency this year.
