How Are Mumbai's Restaurants Transforming Their Menus to Embrace the Monsoon Mood?

Time of India20-07-2025
The monsoon in Mumbai isn't just a season—it's a mood. With the rains comes a unique craving for warmth, nostalgia, and indulgence. 'People are now evolving and always looking for newer experiences as they tap into the season's natural cravings,' says Head Chef Edjose Fernandes from PCO.
'They look for warm, comforting flavours, spiced indulgences, and nostalgic favourites. Diners today are looking for personal and mood-driven menus that capture the essence of the season while offering something fresh and timely.' Faryal Singh from Eddies Café and Bar adds, 'It is important as there is a shift in the seasonal produce. With the shift in produce, it only makes sense to adapt to the seasonality. Also, for many, monsoon brings in the nostalgic feeling of indulgence hence we believe in catering to their needs.'
As diners chase warmth and flavour to match the weather, restaurants across the city are responding with carefully curated monsoon menus—comforting yet creative, nostalgic yet novel. From reimagined regional classics to bold cocktail pairings, the city's kitchens are serving up dishes that celebrate the spirit of the season.

Ashwin Kumar's Mahavatar Narsimha mints Rs 15.85 Cr in opening weekend: collections soared by over 400 % from Day 1

Ashwin Kumar's mythological action drama, Mahavatar Narsimha, has exceeded expectations after a modest opening. The film, rooted in Indian mythology, witnessed significant growth over the weekend, particularly in the Hindi-speaking region. Strong word-of-mouth and appreciation for its spiritual themes are driving its success, potentially making it a surprise hit despite limited pre-release buzz. Ashwin Kumar 's mythological action drama Mahavatar Narsimha opened in cinemas with measured expectations, but the film has shown a notable upward trend through its opening weekend. Rooted in ancient Indian mythology and centered around the fierce avatar of Vishnu who emerges to destroy the tyrant Hiranyakashyap, the film has managed to strike a chord, particularly in the Hindi-speaking belt. Directed by Ashwin Kumar with reverence for the source material and supported by strong visuals, Mahavatar Narsimha delves into the eternal battle between good and evil, a story familiar to many but rarely attempted with such scale and cinematic vision in modern Indian cinema. The screenplay by Ashwin Kumar , Jayapurna Das and Rudra Pratap Ghosh brings to life the poignant journey of Prahlad's unwavering devotion and the divine wrath of Narsimha, offering both emotional and action-packed beats. The film had a modest start with a Day 1 (Friday) net collection of Rs 1.75 crore across all languages. Of this, the Hindi version contributed a significant Rs 1.3 crore, clearly establishing the northern belt as the film's strongest market. The Telugu version followed with Rs 35 lakhs, while Kannada, Tamil, and Malayalam versions opened to limited numbers, together contributing just Rs 10 lakhs. However, the real turnaround began on Saturday, with the film showing an impressive 162.86% growth. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Free P2,000 GCash eGift UnionBank Credit Card Apply Now Undo It collected Rs 4.6 crore, with the Hindi version rising to Rs 3.25 crore and Telugu to Rs 1.15 crore. The Kannada version improved marginally to Rs 11 lakhs, and the Tamil and Malayalam versions also saw slight upticks. The upward trajectory continued into Sunday, with the film raking in an estimated Rs 9.5 crore, marking another 106.52% increase from Saturday. Hindi alone contributed Rs 6.75 crore, while the Telugu version brought in Rs 2.4 crore. The film's total three-day India net collection now stands at Rs 15.85 crore, a solid figure for a mythological film led by a relatively lesser-known film not only showed a massive 442.86 % jump from its day 1 collection but also survived the Saiyaara wave in Hindi belt which has now become the 25th biggest hit of Hindi cinema. Never before has a film with newcomers like Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda performed this well at the box office. The film has been directed by Mohit Suri . What's becoming increasingly clear is that Mahavatar Narsimha is riding on strong word-of-mouth, especially among family audiences and devotees appreciative of its spiritual and moral themes. Its performance is particularly promising given that the film had limited buzz pre-release and a relatively niche theme in a market dominated by commercial action this momentum continues into the weekdays, the film may become a surprise hit.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by ColorsTV (@colorstv) Let's get into it. In the now-viral clip, Priyanka is seen doing what she does best, serving effortless elegance with a side of power. Dressed in a buttery ivory satin gown from cult-favourite label Kallmeyer, she's the poster girl for 'less is more.' No drama, no fluff, just pure, unfiltered style. The gown, named the Toma Draped Gown, is all about clean lines, soft movement, and that perfect balance between romance and structure. Cut on the bias (hello, figure-hugging goodness), the gown gently skims her curves and pools ever-so-slightly at the hem. The structured cowl neckline and shoulder gathering add just enough interest to the front, but it's the back that steals the show, a low, draped plunge that's sensual without trying too hard. This is bridalwear for the modern woman who isn't afraid to keep things chic and stripped back. If you (or your BFF) are planning a white wedding and want to ditch the cookie-cutter bridal fluff, bookmark this look. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Paras Sector 59 Gurgaon | Luxury Awaits at Paras Floret Paras The Florett Book Now Undo It's sultry, sophisticated, and totally wearable, even beyond the aisle. She paired the gown with a technicolour gemstone necklace that brought the right amount of sparkle to the understated look. Think diamonds, bold stones, and just the right dose of high-octane glam. Add to that a dazzling ring, statement earrings, and a sleek, ballerina-inspired bun, and you've got yourself a look that blends red carpet energy with bridal realness. Her glam? Flawless, as expected. Smoky eyes, bronzed cheeks, fluffy lashes, and a velvety brown lip, paired with those dark, perfectly defined brows. It was fresh, polished, and very Priyanka, never trying too hard but always landing the impact. If this is what modern bridalwear looks like, we're totally here for it.
