(AP Photo/Stefan Jeremiah, File) ALBANY, N.Y. — A New York man has been charged with cyberstalking a family member of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, allegedly leaving threatening voicemails that expressed glee about Thompson's killing within hours of the fatal shooting, federal prosecutors said Wednesday. Shane Daley, 40, is accused of placing multiple calls to Thompson's family member after the shooting, justifying the killing and saying that the person deserved to die in a similar manner, according to a criminal complaint. Daley, of Galway, New York, a small town north of Albany, was scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday afternoon. Information on whether Daley had an attorney was not immediately available in online federal court records. In a statement, Acting United States Attorney John A. Sarcone said that 'Brian Thompson was gunned down in midtown Manhattan. Daley, as alleged, gleefully welcomed this tragedy and did all that he could to increase the Thompson family's pain and suffering.' Thompson was fatally shot outside a hotel in New York City in December by a man who was angered over what he viewed as corporate greed, according to prosecutors. The suspect, Luigi Mangione, has pleaded not guilty. The killing of Thompson, who led one of the biggest health insurers in the U.S., resulted in a vast outpouring of public frustration with the country's health care system. Many Americans reacted to the shooting by relaying personal stories about difficult experiences with insurance companies. Mangione himself has been lionized as a sort of vigilante hero by those who are critical of the insurance industry.

What's next for Barrhaven residents after dump truck barrels through cars
As residents pick up the pieces after a dump truck rammed through several vehicles in Ottawa's Barrhaven neighborhood, many are now turning to their insurance companies for next steps. The dump truck barreled down Apolune Street near Cambrian Road Tuesday morning and left several vehicles parked in front of homes damaged. Ottawa paramedics say the driver suffered a medical emergency 'possibly related to the heat.' There were no other injuries. 'We have to deal with insurance now. We were all just going about our lives before, but we have to track down the information for insurance. We have to do all the legwork,' said resident Dan Whelan, who witnessed the crash. 'I just saw the side of the truck, like, in a flash and then bang, bang, bang.' Insurance experts say vehicle owners in these types of situations should know they're covered if they're not at fault. 'If you're not at fault in an accident, you do have coverage. You deal with your own insurance company, and they'll be able to take care of the repairs or pay you the value of the vehicle if there's extensive damages,' said Rob de Pruis, Insurance Bureau of Canada National Director of Consumer and Industry Relations. 'It is part of the mandatory coverage. Even if they didn't purchase optional coverage for things like fire, and hail, and wind, that doesn't matter because this is part of the mandatory product.' 'It's so scary. Like, even my kids, they're still having trauma,' said witness Abdalla Abdelrahman. Many were minutes away from what could have been a tragedy. 'I was with my kids outside to bring something in and we came in and it was just like four minutes and then this happened. It was crazy. I was thinking, 'what if we were still in the car?'' Abdelrahman said on Wednesday. Natasha Gratton captured the dramatic scene on her home security camera as the truck demolished two parked cars. A total of six cars were damaged, witnesses say. 'So many cars were damaged but I'm so glad that there were no kids because it could have been worse,' Gratton said. While the focus now is on cleanup and repairs, some hope the incident serves as a reminder to take precautions during extreme heat events. 'I work in trades too. I've seen people collapsing while they're on their job site and, it has become quite common these days because of the heat exhaustion and all,' said resident Karan Veersingh. Whelan added: 'I hope people are more careful. I can't really get more basic than that. That's really what we want.'

Mississauga obtains injunction to prevent unsanctioned events at Ridgeway Plaza

The plaza is located at the intersection of Eglinton Avenue and Ridgeway Drive and is The plaza has been a subject of targeted enforcement in recent years amid numerous complaints of street racing, loud music and sound, illegal fireworks and events that attract a large number of people. The crackdown is being conducted after the city obtained temporary injunction orders on Wednesday. As a result, Platinum and Odyssey Drive will be blocked at both ends, as per the injunction order, with signage informing people of the order. The first injunction is now in effect and will remain until 2 a.m. Friday. Another injunction is set to be enforced from noon on Aug. 19 to 2 a.m. Aug. 20. In the release, the City of Mississauga said that it was anticipating more large-scale gatherings for Pakistan Independence Day and Afghanistan Independence Day. The city said in that release that they 'pursued this injunction to prevent the planned unsanctioned events, which would disrupt public order and safety in the community.' The injunction targets the business owners and condo corporations of Ridgeway Plaza. Mississauga warned that those who are found to be violating the injunction by encouraging large gatherings or keeping restaurants open may be fined, detained, or even arrested. Peel Regional Police has an operational plan in place to enforce the @CityMississauga's injunction orders at Ridgeway Plaza to ensure public safety. The city insists that the injunctions are 'not targeting any specific groups or individuals; but rather is focused on ensuring public safety and reducing community disturbances.' The city added that there were previous attempts from local councillors, the mayor, and city staff, along with Peel police to work with the e condominium corporation owners. Despite this, the release says, there has been no cooperation and instead an injunction order must be used. The city noted the previous Pakistan Independence Day, Afghanistan Independence Day, National Iraq Day, Chand Raat, and other impromptu events attracted thousands of people and resulted in bylaw violations. 'The injunction orders make it clear that the two condominium corporations have a direct responsibility to protect public safety at the plaza and stop the nuisance gatherings,' the city said. 'People in attendance at the plaza are also required to comply with the injunction orders by not contributing to a nuisance gathering.'
