Reds trade outfielder Stuart Fairchild to Braves for cash considerations

Yahoo01-04-2025
CINCINNATI, Ohio (WDTN) – Prior to their series opener against the Texas Rangers on Monday, the Cincinnati Reds made their first in-season trade.
The Reds announced that outfielder Stuart Fairchild was traded to the Atlanta Braves in exchange for cash considerations.
The trade comes four days after the club designated Fairchild for assignment last Thursday, just hours ahead of Opening Day against the Giants.
The 29-year-old played for the Reds from 2022-2024, hitting .232 with 18 home runs and 23 stolen bases over 229 games.
Cincinnati drafted Fairchild in the second round out of Wake Forest in 2017.
He ended up starting his major league career with the Arizona Diamondbacks before also playing for the San Francisco Giants and Seattle Mariners.

Virgil van Dijk makes honest admission over impact of Diogo Jota death on Liverpool squad

Virgil van Dijk said that the effect of Diogo Jota's death on Liverpool's squad should not be underestimated after the Reds started the new Premier League campaign with three points. Liverpool emerged victorious from a pulsating encounter against Bournemouth on Friday, as Hugo Ekitike, Cody Gakpo, Federico Chiesa, and Mohamed Salah all got on the scoresheet in a 4-2 win. The victory was achieved against the backdrop of an emotion-packed night at Anfield as Liverpool contested its first league game since the passing of Jota in a car crash at the beginning of July. Jota's widow, Rute Cardoso, was in attendance for the game, while a minute's silence was observed ahead of kick-off, and supporters chanted his name throughout. Speaking to club media, Van Dijk addressed the difficulty of trying to compete as normal after the tragedy. "We start with a win, a lot of good things, good moments with and without the ball," Van Dijk said. "Unfortunately, we conceded two goals on the break where we should have done better overall. "But under the circumstances, an emotional night for all of us, first game of the season against a team that will never give up, well known for it, in my opinion, with a great manager, we managed to get the three points. "I think nobody should underestimate what's going on. "We are there for each other with the players, with the staff – but we need all of our fans as well in order to get us through everything. "Let's give it everything and give it a go and enjoy the ride as well, because we are very privileged and blessed, like we all know." Meanwhile, match-winner Chiesa also acknowledged the emotion of the evening after securing Liverpool's win with his first-ever Premier League goal. 'It was really emotional today and after I scored, my thoughts went to Diogo, to Andre, to his family who were here today," Jota told club media. "It was really emotional. The goal was for him. 'In my mind, I think that Diogo was somewhere in here helping me to score this goal. I'd like to think like that. He's always with us, he's going to be with us. 'It was tough today but there was a great atmosphere, the fans were amazing throughout the game. Also, I'm really grateful for the song they're singing. Really, really emotional.'

Kyle Schwarber Delivers Heartfelt Message to Phillies Fans As Free Agency Looms

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Kyle Schwarber is keenly aware that this could be his last season with the Philadelphia Phillies. Schwarber has bounced around with three teams since he was non-tendered by the Chicago Cubs. He was great for the Washington Nationals, but they traded him. He was great for the Boston Red Sox, but they let him walk in free agency. And now, he's been even greater in four years as a Phillie. Before the 2022 season, Schwarber got a four-year, $79 million contract. He's worth at least that this time around, as he's in the middle of the best year of his career, and though the Phillies are a big-market team with the league's third-highest payroll, one never knows how they'll value him until the offseason begins. (Photo by)So with free agency only a couple of months away, Schwarber recently reflected on his previous departures from other teams, and hoped he had done enough already to leave a lasting impression on Philadelphians. "When I first came into the big leagues with the Cubs, even when you make the playoffs and win the World Series the next year you think, 'Oh, I'm gonna be here for forever. We're gonna be here for forever. We've got such a great core,'" Schwarber told USA Today's Gabe Lacques. "And then the business side happens, right? I think as a player, you want to make an impression, a lasting impression on a fan base and an organization. And I don't think that's something you take lightly. "I hope I did it in Chicago. I hope I did it in Washington and Boston, for a short amount of time. And I hope, if this is it after the year, that I did that here. "Because you pour so much of everything you have on a daily basis into the organization, into the city, into your teammates and trying to win. You just hope that people – I don't want to say appreciate it, because that's what we do – but I know how much we pour in that it becomes home." Schwarber has been great on the field, but if there's anything that would really make losing him tough to stomach, it's the fact that he's become the heartbeat of the Phillies' clubhouse. The 32-year-old always knows just what to tell the demanding Philadelphia fan base. And as three other fan bases know all too well, it could sting for a long time if the Phillies let him get away. Phillies' Kyle Schwarber leapfrogs Shohei Ohtani with no-doubt HR vs. Reds

The post Phillies' Kyle Schwarber leapfrogs Shohei Ohtani with no-doubt HR vs. Reds appeared first on ClutchPoints. Philadelphia Phillies star designated hitter Kyle Schwarber sent one to the moon, as he ripped a towering home run in the eighth inning of Monday's series opener against the Cincinnati Reds on the road at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati. Schwarber's blast drove in two runs and stretched Philadelphia's lead from a run to three runs in what became a 4-1 victory for his team. After taking a ball on the first pitch he saw from Reds right-handed reliever Tony Santillan, Schwarber turned on the pitcher's 94 mph four-seam fastball for his 41st home run of the season. With that tater, Schwarber also broke his tie with Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani for second-most home runs in the big leagues, this far in the 2025 MLB regular season. Schwarber entered the new week with 41 home runs, but he's now only three home runs back of season leader Cal Raleigh of the Seattle Mariners. The Mariners star catcher has 45 home runs to date. Fans have also been left astonished by Schwarber's latest dinger. 'Kyle Schwarber is going to hit 60 HR and it will be a blast to watch,' a commenter said. 'He just hit ball, no other talent or skill like showhay,' a social media user on X (formerly Twitter) commented. 'Give him the MVP trophy already,' a fan added. 'He knew he was bombing that once Santillan hit the mound,' read another comment. 'The HR race is HEATING UP !' another X user mentioned. That was also Schwarber's fourth home run in August, as he continues to make a big impact on Philadelphia's offense. With still plenty of games left to play in the regular season for the Phillies, Schwarber has a big chance of setting a new career high in terms of home runs in a single year. His most in a season remains 47, which he had in the 2023 campaign, his second in Phillies uniform. The 32-year-old Schwarber has always been a big threat to launch a long ball, and that's been especially clear in 2025. He is on the 100th percentile with a 60.5 hard-hit percentage and 99th percentile with a 94.8 average exit velocity entering Monday, per Baseball Savant.
