Braves trade Stuart Fairchild to Tampa Bay

Earlier today, the Atlanta Braves traded outfielder Stuart Fairchild to the Tampa Bay Rays for old friend, cash considerations. The Braves designated Fairchild for assignment yesterday when they brought veteran catcher Sandy León to the big-league roster. The Braves added Fairchild to their roster on March 31 after he'd been DFA'd by the Cincinnati Reds. He'd been with Atlanta since that time, outside of a brief IL stint in June. In 28 games with Atlanta, Fairchild slashed a morbid .216/.273/.333 seeing action as a pinch-runner and defensive replacement in addition to the outfield. If he appears for the Rays, it will be the sixth team he will have played for since debuting in 2021. Fairchild, 29, is a well-above average base-runner although his offensive output has been below average the last several season. Fairchild had four doubles, a triple and two stolen bases with Atlanta. More from Rookies and AAA Plate Appearances: Does it Matter for Hitters? Rays place Brandon Lowe on 10-day injured list and acquire Stuart Fairchild

(AP Photo/Jason Behnken) TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — The Tampa Bay Rays placed second baseman Brandon Lowe on the 10-day injured list Tuesday and acquired outfielder Stuart Fairchild from the Braves for cash considerations. Lowe has been dealing with tendinitis in his left ankle. He exited Saturday's game and was initially diagnosed with plantar fasciitis. The injury was later clarified as tendinitis. Advertisement His IL placement was retroactive to July 20, indicating he could return before the July 31 trade deadline. Lowe has been mentioned in trade rumors with several contenders needing help at second base, including the Giants and Astros. The 29-year-old has appeared in 87 games this season, batting .269 with 19 home runs, 11 doubles and three stolen bases. He's driven in 58 runs while striking out in just over 25% of his plate appearances. While Lowe is in the final guaranteed year of his contract, Tampa Bay holds an $11.5 million club option for 2026, giving the Rays flexibility. Fairchild was designated for assignment by Atlanta on Monday and joins Tampa Bay as a versatile fourth outfielder option. The 29-year-old has appeared in 277 major league games across six teams, including the Diamondbacks, Reds, Giants, Mariners, Braves and Rays. Known for his speed, Fairchild can play all three outfield spots. He has slightly above-average results against left-handed pitching, but overall is not an offense producer. Fairchild is out of minor league options and must remain on Tampa Bay's active roster. In a corresponding move, right-hander Manuel Rodriguez was transferred from the 15-day to the 60-day injured list. ___ AP MLB:

Reds trade outfielder Stuart Fairchild to Braves for cash considerations

CINCINNATI, Ohio (WDTN) – Prior to their series opener against the Texas Rangers on Monday, the Cincinnati Reds made their first in-season trade. The Reds announced that outfielder Stuart Fairchild was traded to the Atlanta Braves in exchange for cash considerations. The trade comes four days after the club designated Fairchild for assignment last Thursday, just hours ahead of Opening Day against the Giants. The 29-year-old played for the Reds from 2022-2024, hitting .232 with 18 home runs and 23 stolen bases over 229 games. Cincinnati drafted Fairchild in the second round out of Wake Forest in 2017.
