WREXHAM AFC: Where next on the Reds amazing tour of duty?

Leader Livea day ago
A return to the second tier seemed an impossible dream during the Reds' decade-and-a-half non-league exile, however Phil Parkinson's side will be tackling the likes of Southampton, Sheffield United and Leicester City on an equal footing during the forthcoming campaign.
Since being appointed into the hotseat by co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney in July 2021, Parkinson has led Wrexham to three successive promotions and they are now preparing for a first tilt at the second tier in more than four decades.
The Reds have hit the headlines across the globe - just as McElhenney wished for when he first visualised his Wrexham dream.
Wrexham have since conquered The States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand while there's talk of Asia next on the horizon.
But as far as Humphrey Ker is concerned, the Championship is new territory for the club.
Looking ahead to the step-up to the Championship, Reds' community director Ker told Gabby Logan and Mark Chapman on The Sports Agents podcast: 'That was the Wild West for us! We always thought, League Two, League One, that's within our powers to deliver.
'But, kind of, Championship... that's when you're swimming with the really big fish and Rob and Ryan - well, particularly Rob - had been going on about the Premier League.
'Of course, we say... we talk about the Premier League, but really, you know, League One, let's focus on that and then, suddenly, here we are.
'One promotion away from the Premier League. It's quite daunting in many respects.'
While the promotions have been celebrated by fans and players alike, they've also been well deserved, with plenty of hard work taking place behind the scenes.
Ker added: 'I think we do, collectively, pinch ourselves a lot.
'But then, ultimately, you find yourself going 'well yes, but of course we did work very hard' and we put the time in and we put in place our structure that we thought would get us to where we wanted to go.
'You select the right people, you empower them, you support them and then, actually, it's not that surprising that they deliver in a way.'
Parkinson was one of those top selects that the owners plumped for and the Reds boss has been reflecting on Wrexham's latest tour success.
He reckons Wrexham players have made memories that will last a lifetime from their pre-season tour Down Under.
Matches in Australia against Melbourne Victory and Sydney FC and one game in New Zealand against Wellington Phoenix have helped increased Wrexham's worldwide appeal.
'The tour's been amazing, it really has,' Parkinson told the club's YouTube channel.
'The experience we've had, I don't think anyone who's on the tour will ever forget.
'Obviously, Melbourne was a great experience for us. The first few days, obviously, everyone's recovering from the jet-lag! But training was good there, despite that. The game was decent.
'We had a bit of free time and then, obviously, Sydney, you know, really blew everybody away being in the city and, again, the welcome we had there, like Melbourne, was extraordinary.
'Over to New Zealand and we've come to this facility, which is used by the All Blacks, and what an honour that is to be using the same pitches and the gym as such a prestigious team as the All Blacks.
'The pitches are real quality. The gym facilities and everything, and these surroundings, has been outstanding for us. The sun's been shining as well, which we didn't expect here at Wellington. So, yeah, that part of it has been great.'
The Wrexham Down Under Tour followed on from two highly successful pre-season tours to the USA, the first in 2023 which included a clash against Manchester United, followed by the Wrex Coast Tour in 2024 with the headline fixture against another Premier League side in Chelsea.
The club has become a global sensation under Hollywood owners Reynolds and McElhenney and Parkinson feels Wrexham are much-sought after opponents for high-profile friendlies.
'Wrexham is an attractive proposition, hence the reason we have been able to agree to the friendlies,' added the Reds' boss.
'I couldn't have imagined that a few years ago but it is where the profile of the club is now, and obviously we are Championship standard as well.'

Liverpool v Bournemouth: Premier League season opener

Update: Date: 2025-08-15T18:30:13.000Z Title: These two clubs are on the verge of doing some business with each other … Content: Premier League updates from 8pm BST at Anfield Match previews | Reds sign Leoni | Email Scott here Scott Murray Fri 15 Aug 2025 20.30 CEST First published on Fri 15 Aug 2025 19.30 CEST 8.30pm CEST 20:30 … but that's not the only news of Liverpool in the market today. 8.24pm CEST 20:24 Season previews. Time for one last look before the first ball is kicked in anger. 8.06pm CEST 20:06 Slot continues: 'We have lost many players and brought in many … even yesterday we brought in one who is not available yet … we have lost a few very good players … the ones we brought in are special as well … in general [in pre-season] we don't concede more chances, but the ones we do concede have led to goals.' Updated at 8.26pm CEST 8.00pm CEST 20:00 Arne Slot speaks to Sky Sports, and first addresses the impact on his squad of this tragic summer. 'The players are far better than I expected five or six weeks ago … in that moment in time, you feel will it ever be possible to play again? … but they have conducted themselves so, so, so well … on both sides they were great, as a human being, but they also understood they have to be professional football players again … so we had to work hard, and that's what we started doing.' Updated at 8.25pm CEST 7.54pm CEST 19:54 Liverpool name four Premier League debutants this evening. Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez all start, as they did at Wembley against Crystal Palace last weekend in the Community Shield. Bournemouth aren't far behind them in that regard. They've got three new players in their line-up tonight: goalkeeper Đorđe Petrović, left-back Adrien Truffert and central defender Bafodé Diakité all make their competitive debuts for the Cherries. 7.49pm CEST 19:49 Liverpool: Alisson, Frimpong, Konate, van Dijk, Kerkez, Mac Allister, Szoboszlai, Salah, Wirtz, Gakpo, Mamardashvili, Gomez, Endo, Chiesa, Jones, Elliott, Robertson, Nyoni, Ngumoha. Bournemouth: Petrovic, Smith, Diakite, Senesi, Truffert, Adams, Scott, Brooks, Tavernier, Semenyo, Dennis, Araujo, Soler, Junior Kroupi, Hill, Traore, Billing, Winterburn, Rees-Dottin. Referee: Anthony Taylor (Cheshire). Updated at 8.07pm CEST 7.45pm CEST 19:45 Diogo Jota is pictured on the cover of this evening's match programme. Arne Slot pays tribute to Liverpool's No20 and his brother André Silva in his notes, which confirm that Jota's wife Rute Cardoso, his children and family will be at Anfield this evening. There will be a moment of silence before kick-off, the players will wear black armbands, and Liverpool will wear a Forever 20 emblem on their shirts and jackets. We know that this will be a very emotional occasion, given it is the first league game we have played since we lost Diogo and André. As I have said previously, the tributes that have been paid throughout the football world, and especially within the LFC community, have been truly special, and I know that tonight we will come together to honour them once more. I believe that Diogo's wife, his children and his family will be in attendance and it is important that, as a club, we show that they will always have our love and support as they deal with this most tragic of situations. We are there for them always.' Updated at 7.45pm CEST 7.30pm CEST 19:30 Almost exactly one year ago – 363 days, to be precise – Liverpool found themselves struggling during their season opener at Portman Road. Newly promoted Ipswich Town had been the better team in the first half, and with nearly an hour on the clock, the score remained goalless. But then Trent Alexander-Arnold curled in from the right, finding his team-mate who ... ... flashed a header wide from six yards, when it was surely easier to score. Ah well. No matter, though! That team-mate, an indefatigable bundle of joyous energy, selfless commitment, Fowleresque skill, and straight-up fun, wasn't to be disheartened. He simply came at Ipswich again, 60 seconds later, entering the box to meet a Mohamed Salah pass by calmly and adroitly whipping a firm sidefoot into the corner. The first goal of the Arne Slot era, a crucial momentum-shifter, and the first step towards Premier League glory. Diogo Jota took Liverpool to victory. Better than Figo, don't you know? A year is a long time by any reasonable measure, but with another season opener upon us, all of that feels particularly distant now. Anfield, staging its first competitive fixture since the tragic passing of Diogo and his brother André Silva, will remember, grieve and celebrate those beautiful, beloved boys tonight with a special Kop mosaic in their honour. Then a game of football will take place. Kick-off will be at 8pm UK time, and Jota is forever Liverpool's number 20.

‘I'm unhappy.. it's coming from our building' – David Moyes slams Everton MOLE after information leaked ahead of opener

DAVID MOYES hit out at an Everton mole for leaking news of Jarrad Branthwaite's injury before the season opener against Leeds. Moyes' Toffees kick off their new campaign at Elland Road on Monday. 1 And they face a tough task against Daniel Farke's newly promoted side after struggling for signings. But Everton's mission will be even harder after star defender Branthwaite was ruled out of the Leeds trip with a hamstring injury. The news came out ahead of Moyes' press conference on Friday. And he made no secret of his disdain for Everton's mole while confirming Branthwaite's absence. Slamming the leak while addressing the severity of the injury, Moyes said: 'I wouldn't give that information away anyway. 'But I'm sure that the insider at the club will give it out. 'We have got to find out who it is, who is giving the news out. 'I am unhappy with it; all managers don't like it. 'It is certainly coming from within our building, and it is up to us to put a stop to it, and we will do.' Meanwhile, new signing Jack Grealish could be thrust into the starting XI against Leeds. Premier League Star Doucoure Set for Saudi Switch! The winger joined on a season-long loan deal from Manchester City. And Moyes hinted Grealish could play from the off. He added: 'Grealish looks the same, big calves. 'You need to turn up and find out whether he starts. That's what everyone needs to do. 'I think Jack can play in several positions, I think he can play midfield as well. 'He doesn't give the ball away very often, but my aim is to get Jack in positions where he will get goals and assists for us. 'It's a big challenge for Jack as well. I'm looking forward to see how he responds to it.'
