Chaalbaaz director alleges Ram Gopal Varma forced Sridevi to lose weight: 'She fainted, hit her head, and lost a tooth'
Behind the glamour and grace of
Sridevi
's iconic career lies a troubling pattern of pressure and perfection. In a recent interview, Chaalbaaz director Pankaj Parashar opened up about the damaging impact of industry expectations on the late actor, revealing a disturbing incident where
Ram Gopal Varma
's repeated insistence on weight loss led to a serious health scare.
Ram Gopal Varma's Role in a Delayed Film
In a chat with Friday Talkies, the director addressed the long-delayed release of his incomplete film Meri Biwi Ka Jawab Nahin, starring Sridevi and
Akshay Kumar
. He blamed Ram Gopal Varma for the setback, claiming Varma pushed Sridevi to lose weight during their work on the 1991 Telugu film Kshana Kshanam, prompting her to go on a crash diet that impacted her health and delayed other projects.
A Crash Diet That Ended in a Health Crisis
Speaking about the film, Pankaj further revealed that everything was on track until Ram Gopal Varma intervened.
He claimed Varma constantly urged Sridevi to lose weight, leading her to follow a crash diet. She cut out salt, which caused her blood pressure to drop. Sridevi fainted, hit a table, remained unconscious for 20 minutes, and even lost a tooth—ultimately causing the entire shoot schedule to be scrapped.
He also shared that after Sridevi injured her face, she had to take a break from filming, which led to the schedule being abandoned midway.

Akshay Kumar Recalls the Unfinished Film
A few years ago on
Koffee with Karan
, Akshay Kumar revealed that Meri Biwi Ka Jawab Nahin was never fully completed. Despite this, an unfinished version was released in 2004. He recalled that while the characters declared they would seek revenge, the actual climax was never shot.
Instead, the film abruptly ended with on-screen text stating they eventually took their revenge.
Boney Kapoor
on Sridevi's Struggles With Dieting
In an earlier conversation with The New Indian, Sridevi's husband and producer Boney Kapoor revealed that she was on a diet when she passed away in 2018. He shared that she often starved herself to maintain her on-screen appearance and had experienced blackouts due to low blood pressure. Doctors had warned her about the issue multiple times. Boney also recalled a moment shared by actor Nagarjuna, who visited to offer condolences.
Nagarjuna mentioned that during one of Sridevi's films, she was on a crash diet, fainted in the bathroom, and broke her tooth—echoing earlier incidents linked to extreme dieting.

This 2-hour-17-minute superhit thriller in which actress turns into snake, movie name is... , lead actress was...
It's been 39 years since Nagina first slithered into theatres, yet when people talk about 'naag-naagin' films, one name instantly flashes in memory, Sridevi. Released in 1986, the 2-hour-17-minute fantasy thriller was directed by Harmesh Malhotra and starred Sridevi, Rishi Kapoor, and Amrish Puri in unforgettable roles. The story, penned by Jagmohan Kapoor, Ravi Kapoor, and Achala Nagar, revolved around a shape-shifting serpent woman, an 'ichchadhari naagin' whose love story turns into a tale of revenge. What Was Nagina About? Sridevi played Rajni, a mysterious woman who falls in love with and marries Rajiv (Rishi Kapoor). Unknown to him, Rajni is an ichchadhari naagin. Their seemingly perfect life takes a sharp turn when Bhairon Nath, a snake charmer played by Amrish Puri, enters the scene. Bhairon Nath reveals to Rajiv's mother that Rajni's marriage is driven by revenge—stemming from her husband's death in childhood—and that she possesses a magical jewel, the 'mani.' His mission? To claim it. Using his hypnotic flute, he tries to force Rajni to reveal her serpent form, setting off a dangerous game of power and love. The Twist That Kept Viewers Hooked As the plot unfolds, Rajiv learns of Bhairon Nath's sinister plan. What follows is a gripping battle between supernatural power and human emotion, complete with dramatic confrontations, intense background scores, and Sridevi's legendary 'Main Teri Dushman' dance sequence, still considered one of Bollywood's most electrifying performances. Box Office Magic According to media reports, Nagina was made on a budget of around Rs 1.8–2 crore. Wikipedia estimates its box office haul at about Rs 13 crore, a massive hit for its time. Decades later, the film remains a cult favourite and is still available for viewing on YouTube, attracting new audiences and nostalgic fans alike. Beyond its supernatural premise, Nagina was a turning point in Sridevi's career, solidifying her status as one of Bollywood's most bankable and versatile stars. The chemistry between her and Rishi Kapoor, Amrish Puri's menacing presence, and Harmesh Malhotra's storytelling combined to create a film that continues to be celebrated nearly four decades later.

Is K-pop's Dream Fading at Home? Data Reveals Why Korean Youth Are Losing Interest
After Global Hype, Domestic Cooldown: What the Numbers Say While K-pop continues to dominate worldwide stages, signs of domestic fatigue are becoming clear in Korea's home market. According to the Circle Chart 2025 Mid-Year Report, consumption of K-pop's top 400 digital tracks dropped by 6.4% compared to last year, and by a staggering 49.7% since 2019-the peak year. Physical album sales, a vital indicator of fan dedication, also fell by 9% year-on-year, reaching 42.4 million units sold, down from 46.7 million in 2024. Albums crossing the 1 million sales mark fell from 9 to 7, while no album surpassed 3 million copies this year, unlike last year when Seventeen notably achieved this feat. These figures are reinforced by data from the Korea Music Content Association and Circle Chart, highlighting a clear domestic slowdown. Dwindling Rookie Girl Groups: Where's the Fresh Spark Gone? Previously, rookie girl groups injected energy and buzz into the K-pop scene, often dominating the charts. However, the 2025 mid-year data shows a stark drop in new group appearances. Only aespa, Ive, and NewJeans secured spots in the top 10 girl groups, compared to five in 2024. Data analyst Kim Jin-woo of Circle Chart explains, "The rookie girl group presence sharply declined. The shift toward English-heavy songs and similar-sounding beats to appeal globally has dulled the unique appeal that domestic audiences cherished." by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like This Japanese AI invention allows you to speak 68 languages instantly. The idea? Genius. Enence 2.0 Undo This trend reflects labels prioritizing international recognition, although it risks disengaging core local fans. Solo Artists Rising: Changing the K-pop Landscape Another significant trend is the rise of solo artists dominating charts traditionally ruled by groups. In the current top 10 digital rankings, 7 are solo performers, including Woodz ("Drowning"), Hwang Garam ("I Am a Firefly"), and Jo Jazz ("Don't You Know"). These soloists may lack massive global tours but connect deeply with domestic listeners. Music critic Lim Hee-yun notes, "Fans increasingly seek authenticity, relatable content, and direct communication, which solo artists deliver effectively through social media." This shift indicates a change from fanclub-driven group mania to more individualistic music consumption. Shifting Fan Culture: What's Behind the Domestic Decline? Why is Korean youth losing enthusiasm for K-pop? Experts point to concept repetition, a surge in English lyrics, and a saturated market with fewer standout newcomers as key reasons. These factors contribute to declining concert attendance, lower merchandise sales, and shrinking hardcore fandoms. Nonetheless, the industry remains optimistic due to K-pop's growing global footprint, especially in North America, Europe, and Southeast Asia. However, sustaining strong domestic support remains crucial for long-term stability.
