All government schools and allied institutions must stop offering traditional gifts like Ajrak and Topi during ceremonies or meetings.
The practice of deploying students to greet guests, delegates, or officers is now prohibited.
The directive applies to all Directors, District Education Officers (DEOs), Head Masters, Principals, and allied institutions across Sindh.
A copy of the circular has been forwarded to 16 key officials and departments, including the Sindh Textbook Board, Private Institutions Directorate, and the official website for wider dissemination.

The Sindh Public Service Commission (SPSC) on Saturday rejected social media rumours that it was recruiting candidates domiciled in other provinces, insisting that only Sindh-domiciled applicants are considered. In a press release, the SPSC secretary said the commission 'strictly follows the requisitions and eligibility criteria laid down by various administrative departments of the Government of Sindh and act in accordance with the SPSC (Recruitment Management) Regulations – 2023.' The statement clarified that the issuance of domicile and Permanent Residence Certificates (PRCs) falls under the authority of deputy commissioners and the district administration, not the commission. 'Unfortunately, it is aired on different social media platforms that SPSC is recommending candidates domiciled in other provinces. SPSC only considers the applicants domiciled in Sindh rather than other provinces,' it said. It further noted that the commission is not mandated to verify documents such as degrees, domicile authenticity, or other certifications. Instead, the responsibility lies with the relevant administrative departments, which complete the required formalities before issuing offer letters to successful candidates. The secretary warned against spreading misinformation. 'The general public and prospective candidates are strongly advised to desist from maligning Constitutional Institution/SPSC with fake assumptions and hearsays,' the statement said, adding that legal action could be taken against those circulating false claims.

Karachi to Sukkur: Sindh govt plans to launch sub-urban railway services: minister
KARACHI: Sindh Minister for Energy, Planning and Development, Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, has stated that a proposal is under consideration to launch sub-urban railway services from Karachi to Sukkur, based on the model of Lahore. The project, a joint effort between Pakistan Railways and the Government of Sindh, aims to enhance public transport services across the province and is expected to benefit millions of daily commuters. It will also help reduce the load on inter-city bus services and ease travel-related difficulties for the general public. In a significant move to improve the railway system and enhance public transport facilities, the Sindh government has decided to launch a train service on the short route between Rohri and Sukkur. The minister expressed these views during a meeting with a high-level delegation from Pakistan Railways at the Energy Department's office. The delegation was led by Chairman/Secretary Pakistan Railways Syed Mazhar-ul-Islam, and included Chief Operating Officer Railways Amir Ali Baloch and Divisional Superintendent Railways Karachi, Rehan Lakho. Also present were Secretary Energy Department Sindh Mushtaq Ahmed Soomro, MD Thar Coal Energy Board Tariq Ali Shah, Additional Secretary Coal Dr. Waqas Rajput, Chief Technical Officer Shariq Raza, and other officials. The secretary of Railways offered several collaboration opportunities with the Sindh government and shared that Pakistan Railways, in collaboration with the Punjab government, has already launched sub-urban railway services in Lahore, benefiting over 80 million people. He emphasized the need for the Sindh government's support for similar projects in the province. Minister Nasir Hussain Shah affirmed that, as per the vision and directives of Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, the Government of Sindh is committed to initiating and completing as many public-benefit projects as possible. He assured full cooperation with any institution working for public welfare and relief. The Minister confirmed Sindh's willingness to partner with Pakistan Railways on projects that serve the people. He further noted that the Sindh government had already completed its share of work for the Karachi Circular Railway (KCR) project, and the process of removing encroachments along the railway lines was underway when it was halted by railway authorities due to unspecified reasons. Nasir Shah highlighted that the Government of Sindh is progressing rapidly and successfully on multiple projects under Public-Private Partnerships (PPP). He emphasised that the proposed railway track from Rohri to Karachi would be an ideal project, and assured that the Sindh government would prioritize the ML-1 project, providing all necessary No Objection Certificates (NOCs) and relevant support. He also pointed out that several projects of the Sindh government have been delayed due to inattention from the railway administration. To address these issues, he proposed the formation of a joint committee to resolve all pending matters. The meeting also discussed suggestions for improving railway stations across Sindh, addressing critical railway crossings, and potentially adopting railway stations for better maintenance. New number plates' deadline extended

PHOTO: FILE The Sindh government on Monday issued a notification to extend the last date for acquiring the new numb plates for vehicles from August 14 to October 31. The notification came a few hours after the Sindh Excise and Taxation Minister Mukesh Kumar Chawla said on the Sindh Assembly floor that the Sindh government might consider extending the date for new number plates. The new number plates with Ajrak design have special features, which according to the government are readable by the surveillance cameras of the safe city project. Responding to a call-attention notice by MQM member Qurat-ul-Ain Khan during Monday's Sindh Assembly session, he said the new plates are applicable across Sindh and enforcement will be strict everywhere. He mentioned that the new number plates were introduced in 2021, and within two to three months, new centers will be established in Korangi, SITE Area, and Gulshan-e-Iqbal. Qurat-ul-Ain Khan pointed out that enforcement is lax in rural areas, while Karachi residents are being unnecessarily targeted. "The given deadline is too short, and the public is facing serious difficulties. The government should reconsider," she said. Consequently, the deadline has been extended by the government. Sindh Assembly has unanimously passed a resolution to pay tribute to martyred police officers. The resolution was presented by Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) member Farooq Awan, who called on the Sindh government to provide healthcare, education, and a special benefits package for the families of police martyrs. Home Minister Sindh Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar supported the resolution, stating, "Today is Police Day, and the resolution holds great significance in the house. On the very day, Inspector General of Police in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was martyred. The martyrs of Sindh Police laid down their lives to protect the lives and property of the people." He said, he had personally visited the katcha areas, where police officers are bravely conducting operations against terrorists. These areas are so difficult to access that even APCs (armored personnel carriers) get stuck, yet police personnel remain resolute." Local Government Minister Saeed Ghani also supported the resolution, saying that Farooq Awan's services are part of history. "He was attacked but returned to the field with renewed dedication," he said. Ghani also highlighted the police's need for modern weapons and technology, pointing out that "terrorists have access to advanced weapons and facilities that police do not." He paid tribute to the sacrifices of Pakistan Army, Rangers, and intelligence agencies, noting that peace has only been achieved through their joint efforts. Opposition Leader Ali Khursheedi also honored the police and other security force martyrs as a source of national pride, saying, "We must equip the police with modern weapons so they can perform their duties effectively."
