Dharmendra Pradhan chairs meeting with Union Ministers on expansion of Rourkela Steel Plant in Odisha
Bhubaneswar (Odisha) [India], June 25 (ANI): Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Wednesday co-chaired a meeting with Minister of Steel HD Kumaraswamy and Minister of Tribal Affairs Jual Oram to resolve issues pertaining to the expansion of Rourkela Steel Plant in Odisha.
In a post on X, Dharmendra Pradhan posted, 'Together with Union Ministers HD Kumaraswamy and Jual Oram, co-chaired a meeting to resolve issues on the expansion of Rourkela Steel Plant in Odisha. Expansion of RSP is strategically important for India's steel sector as well as for the industrial and socio-economic development of Odisha and the eastern region.'
'The expansion will boost our steel production capacity, strengthen India's position in the global steel market, reduce imports, cater to the needs of key industrial sectors, catalyse Odisha's economy, drive growth and create large-scale jobs in steel and allied sectors in line with PM Narendra Modi's vision of Purvodaya,' said Pradhan's post.
'Thankful to Steel Minister for agreeing to my suggestion to form a High-powered Committee for addressing hurdles hindering the expansion, removing bottlenecks and resolving all unresolved issues. Also, appreciate his commitment to a vibrant steel sector in Odisha,' his post added.
Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy also took to his handle on X and posted, 'Union Ministers Dharmendra Pradhan and Jual Oram met me to discuss the proposed expansion of Rourkela Steel Plant and to raise important concerns related to the welfare of local communities in the region.'
'We had a constructive and solution-focused discussion. I have assured them that all issues raised will be examined with utmost seriousness, and appropriate steps will be taken in coordination with all stakeholders. Development must be inclusive, and we are committed to ensuring that the growth of our steel sector brings prosperity to the people it touches,' he said.
Union Minister Jual Oram also posted on X, 'Co-chaired a meeting with Union Ministers HD Kumaraswamy and Dharmendra Pradhan to discuss and address key issues related to the expansion of the Rourkela Steel Plant and the upgradation of Rourkela Airport.'
'During the meeting, we held an in-depth discussion on the expansion of the Rourkela Steel Plant, focusing on its strategic importance to the region's industrial growth, employment generation, and economic development. We also deliberated on the expansion and upgradation of Rourkela Airport, which will significantly improve regional connectivity and boost trade, tourism, and investment in Odisha,' he posted.
Earlier on Monday, Dharmendra Pradhan met Housing and Power Minister Manohar Lal Khattar to seek his intervention on the timely release of 15th Finance Commission grants to Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) in Sambalpur and Deogarh for the year 2024-25.
According to an official release from Dharmendra Pradhan's office, 'Union Education Minister and Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) from Sambalpur Dharmendra Pradhan met Union Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs and Power Manohar Lal Khattar to seek his intervention towards ensuring timely release of 15th Finance Commission grants to Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) in Sambalpur and Deogarh for the Financial Year 2024-25.'
'These funds are critical for carrying out essential developmental initiatives and completing a wide range of civic and infrastructure works, including improvement of roads, sanitation, urban beautification, health and wellness, among others in the region,' it said.
It added that Pradhan also sought his cooperation for affordable housing projects, PM-SVANidhi, e-bus services, and effective regional waste management mechanisms. (ANI)

'Along with this, the book describes the role of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and Jan Sangh, the struggle of the Lok Sangharsh Samiti, the challenges of Satyagraha and public awakening. The book, divided into five chapters, explores censorship of the press during the Emergency, the government's use of state power, the resistance put up by the RSS and Jan Sangh, personal stories of those imprisoned or targeted, and the larger democratic transition from authoritarianism to mass participation. Shah said Prime Minister Modi had decided 25 June should be commemorated as Constitution Betrayal Day, calling the Emergency 'an attack on the nation's soul'. The BJP marks this day each year as a black chapter in India's democratic history. Shah said the phrase 'Constitution Betrayal' was debated internally as it seemed harsh, but they concluded that nothing less could describe how censorship, mass arrests, and suppression unfolded in 1975. The Union Minister recounted the series of events leading up to the Emergency, including the Allahabad High Court verdict invalidating Indira Gandhi's election and the Congress loss in Gujarat, saying these political shocks prompted the clampdown. He argued that the JP movement gave voice to rising discontent and turned slogans like 'Indira is India' into 'Indira against India'. Listing the Emergency's excesses, Shah said censorship extended to artists and institutions. 'To the youth sitting here, I want to ask—have you ever listened to a duet song? In it, both the male and female voices—can they be of the same singer? That's what happened during Emergency. Kishore Kumar's voice was banned. Manoj Kumar's films were banned. Dev Anand was barred from Doordarshan. The film Aandhi and Kissa Kursi Ka were also banned. Friends, after murdering the Constitution, the Indian Constitution was silenced.' He also highlighted judicial interference, where judges critical of the government were sidelined, and three senior judges were superseded. He referred to the Shah Commission's findings, saying they documented how forced sterilisation, mass detentions, and demolitions created a climate of fear 'with no parallel in the world'. Shah contrasted that period with what he called the current ethos of governance under Modi. He said while Emergency-era politics placed individual and dynastic interests above the nation, the Modi era had ushered in a mindset of 'India First'. He said India was now on a path to becoming a global leader by 2047—a transformation rooted in the sacrifices made by those who resisted Emergency rule. CM urges Centre to roll back fare hike; passengers flag concerns
Chennai: Calling Indian Railways "an integral part" of daily life for the poor and middle class, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin on Wednesday urged the Union govt not to hike passenger fares or reduce general class coaches. "The Indian Railway isn't just a service – it's family," Stalin said in a post on X. "To increase the number of AC coaches, don't cut down general class coaches. Don't raise fares." He added that the hike, set to take effect from July, already dampened public mood and would worsen the burden on households already struggling with rising prices and fuel costs. Passenger associations also voiced concern the same day, warning that reducing affordable travel options would drive more people to unsafe or overcrowded modes of transport. AIADMK leader Edappadi K Palaniswami also opposed the Centre's proposed railway fare hike, calling it unacceptable and demanding its immediate withdrawal. Co contracted by Union govt to operate 675 e-buses in Raj
Jaipur: Eight city transport corporations in Rajasthan, including Jaipur City Transport Services Limited (JCTSL), will soon sign agreements with Chartered Speed, a company contracted through a bidding process floated by the Union govt's subsidiary, Convergence Energy Services Limited (CESL), to operate 675 electric buses. Confirming the development, Narayan Singh, managing director of JCTSL, said CESL contracted this company to operate e-buses in 13 cities across the country, including Jaipur, under the Pradhan Mantri e-Bus Sewa Scheme. Of JCTSL's share of 675 e-buses, 150 will be kept for Jaipur and the rest distributed to seven other cities in Rajasthan. "Now, the company will sign separate agreements with all eight city transport corporations and equip the depots with infrastructure suitable for the operations of e-buses. Buses will be allotted in phases within the next five to nine months," Singh said. Two types of AC e-buses, one 9 metres in length and the other of 12 metres, will be operated under this scheme. The six other cities where the e-buses will operate are Bhilawara, Udaipur, Kota, Jodhpur, Alwar, Bikaner, and Ajmer. Under this scheme, the Union govt will bear Rs 20 of the subsidy amount." Besides, JCTSL will also procure 300 CNG-run minibuses to be operated by private operators. Officials, however, said the 150 e-buses and the 300 minibuses won't meet the need for city buses in Jaipur, which needs around 2,200 buses. At present, while JCTSL operates around 250 buses, there are around 600 private buses. Chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma recently took up this issue with the Union govt. The centre is ready to provide more buses to Rajasthan under the Pradhan Mantri e-Bus Sewa Scheme, another official disclosed.
