30 injured as Delhi-bound busoverturns on Ayodhya highway

Lucknow: As many as 30 people were injured, including two critically, after a sleeper bus from Gorakhpur to Delhi lost control and overturned near Dharauli village on the Lucknow-Ayodhya highway early on Thursday morning.
The sudden commotion on the highway drew local villagers to the scene, who immediately began efforts to rescue passengers trapped inside the bus.
After approximately an hour of efforts, all injured passengers were extricated from the bus and transported to the Ramsanehighat Community Health Centre.
"30 injured persons were brought to the CHC. Of these, two passengers, due to the severity of their injuries, were referred to the district hospital," said Dr Amresh Verma, superintendent, CHC.
According to the injured passengers, the bus driver stopped at a roadside eatery during the journey and consumed alcohol.
Subsequently, he drove the bus at high speed in a reckless manner. In the Ramsanehighat area, he lost control, causing the bus to overturn on the highway. . Sub divisional magistrate Anurag Singh and circle officer Jatashankar Mishra were instrumental in restoring traffic flow on the highway.

NEW DELHI: A 39-year-old man has been booked for allegedly raping his mother in Delhi's Hauz Qazi area after she returned from a pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia, police said on Saturday. The woman, along with her 25-year-old daughter, approached the Hauz Qazi police station and accused her son, identified as Md Firoz alias Suhel, of sexually assaulting her on multiple occasions this month, officials added. "The woman stated that she had travelled to Saudi Arabia on July 25 with her husband, aged 72, and their daughter for pilgrimage. During the trip, her son allegedly called on her husband's phone and accused her of having a 'bad character', demanding that his father return immediately to Delhi and divorce her," a senior police officer said. "She further alleged that on August 11, when she returned home around 9.30 pm, her son insisted on speaking to her privately. He then locked her in a room, threatened her with a knife and scissors, and allegedly raped her," the officer added. Out of fear and shame, the woman initially kept silent and started sleeping in the same room as her daughter, police said. However, around 3.30 am on August 14, the accused allegedly assaulted her again, after which she gathered courage and approached the police. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the BNS, and an investigation is underway, officials added.
