Film producer Balaga Prakash alleges harassment by revenue officials over land deal
Speaking at a press conference, Mr. Prakash said that he legally purchased two acres in Survey Nos. 520/1 and 520/3 from members and legal heirs of the Jagadhatri Displaced Goldsmiths RCC Spun Pipes Cooperative Society two years ago. He presented land documents including the sale deed, adangal, conversion approvals, and orders issued by the then Tekkali Sub Collector in November 2023.
Mr. Prakash alleged that the RDO continued to act against him despite a directive from the Andhra Pradesh High Court not to proceed further in the matter. He claimed certain vested interests were being encouraged to file false complaints, causing him undue hardship. 'While the government promotes Dalit industrialists, such harassment is discouraging and unjust,' he said.
Leaders of the Scheduled Castes Welfare Association's Joint Action Committee, including K. Venu and T. Srinu, backed Mr. Prakash, warning that such incidents would deter Dalit entrepreneurs from investing in backward regions. They said a delegation would meet with the National Commissions for SCs and STs to seek support.
When contacted, Mr. Krishna Murthy maintained that he was acting within legal parameters. He said some legal heirs of the cooperative society had approached him, alleging non-receipt of payment for the land sale. 'My efforts are to resolve the issue in accordance with court and government directions,' he clarified.

‘Was like Nirbhaya case': Man gets life forraping 11yo Dalit girl, burning private parts
Bareilly: A special Pocso court in Rampur has sentenced a 26-year-old man to rigorous life imprisonment for brutally raping an 11-year-old hearing and speech impaired Dalit girl and burning her private parts with cigarettes on the night of April 15, 2025. The minor survivor, who remained critical for months with "ruptured internal organs, including uterus", had to undergo at least three crucial surgeries in Rampur, Moradabad and Meerut. The court also imposed a hefty fine of Rs 6 lakh on the convict. "It was like Delhi's Nirbhaya case . The girl had about 14 injuries on her body -- externally, burns, bruises and deep scratches on her private parts, and her internal injuries were also very severe. She may not be able to recover at all," said special public prosecutor, Sumit Sharma. On April 15, she went missing from her village in Rampur district and was found without clothes and with gruesome injuries in a farm the next morning. She was unconscious, and in a critical condition, Sharma added. An FIR was registered under BNS section 65 (2) (rape of woman under 12 years of age), among others, along with the Pocso and SC/ST acts following a complaint by the survivor's mother. Rampur SP, Vidyasagar Mishra, set up three teams which apprehended the accused, Dan Singh Yadav, after a brief encounter on April 16. The accused, a labourer, was identified with the help of CCTV footage and forensic evidence, police said. "Five doctors, who operated upon her, gave their statements. A doctor at LLRM Medical College, Meerut, in her statement, said that during a medical examination, she found deep injuries on the girl's private parts... During the surgery, a complicated diversion route was created in the stomach via the intestines," Sharma said. Police submitted enough evidence that included CCTV footage, a packet of condoms, an empty liquor bottle and a beer can with Dan Singh's fingerprints from the crime scene. Based on the evidence, the court of ADJ Ramgopal Singh pronounced Dan Singh guilty and delivered the verdict on Monday evening. As per the court order, the fine amount will be provided to the survivor for treatment and rehabilitation, Sharma said. Meanwhile, the child's mother said, "Doctors told me that my daughter may not be able to live a normal life again. Dan Singh should have been hanged to death." Freshers safe but mid-level employees must deepen expertise in AI era, says Ascendion CEO
CHENNAI: The rise of Artificial Intelligence (AI) will not affect fresher hiring, as they can be easily trained if they have the right mindset to adapt to new technologies, said Karthik Krishnamurthy, CEO of US-based software engineering firm Ascendion. He was speaking after unveiling the latest version of the company's AI-powered software engineering platform, AAVA, now fully agentic, capable of planning, deciding, and acting on its own to achieve goals with human supervision. However, he cautioned that mid-level professionals face greater risk. "The traditional pyramid model, with a large base of freshers, followed by mid-level staff, and a small number of senior experts, is shifting to a barbell model, where the middle layer is shrinking," he said. In the barbell structure, companies retain large numbers of freshers at one end and highly experienced experts at the other, with fewer mid-level roles. "Mid-level employees must deepen their domain expertise to stay relevant," he added, noting that Ascendion is increasing fresher intake and offering skill-gap training. He also advised students to learn how to build AI agents to boost their employability. Over 60% of Ascendion's projects have adopted the agentic AI model, mostly for clients that need to build software quickly. "It's faster, cheaper, and more efficient," Krishnamurthy said, adding that the tipping point will come when market leaders adopt the model after seeing its benefits.

TN plans special purpose vehicle for co-working space project
Chennai: As more co-working spaces are being planned across the city, as part of the 'chief minister's project, the state govt has decided to create a special purpose vehicle (SPV), and a private company with a CEO to manage the spaces. The SPV will work independently from the govt to manage the daily work of the co-working spaces. Officials, who participated in the meeting involving the CMDA, special projects and urban development department, said the chief minister wanted to ensure that all the 30 planned centres functioned continuously, irrespective of which govt or bureaucrats are heading departments. "As of now, the lone co-working centre at Kolathur is being jointly managed by the CMDA and GCC. This is not sustainable in the long run, as officials may change, and coordination and funding issues may arise. Hence, the new SPV will directly be funded by the govt and will have its own executive powers to maintain the centres on the lines of CMRL, CUMTA, or Smart City," the official said. News of the Discovery Undo "The interview and vetting of profiles will be done by the agencies while it will also popularise co-working spaces among professionals as an authentic job placement forum. The move is set to roll out in a few months once the SPV is formed," he said, adding that a portal will be formed with job data and camp details too. He added that several professionals come to the co-working spaces, and whoever is willing to provide their work data voluntarily can benefit from the recruitment system. "Every day, about 100 people come to the centre in Kolathur, and the numbers will increase once all 29 centres are opened. The placement system will be free too as the SPV will merely coordinate with companies and start-ups," said Prakash. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI).
