Nandyal Collector conferred with Guv's award
In a press release the authorities have stated that the honour was bestowed by the Governor of Andhra Pradesh and President of the Indian Red Cross Society, Andhra Pradesh State Branch, S Abdul Nazeer, along with First Lady Sameera Nazeer. The event celebrated exemplary contributions to the Red Cross movement across the State, where a total of eight district Collectors were recognized for their exceptional service and dedicated support.
As part of this recognition, Raja Kumari was felicitated for her remarkable efforts in advancing the initiatives of the Red Cross in Nandyal district. Speaking on the occasion, the Collector noted that a state-of-the-art Indian Red Cross Society Blood Storage Center has recently been inaugurated in the district to enhance emergency healthcare services.
She also announced that a generic medical shop, aimed at providing affordable medicines to the public, will soon be established under the aegis of the Red Cross.
Furthermore, she revealed plans to strengthen the Youth Red Cross and form a dedicated Red Cross Army under the district committee to offer swift emergency services. Initiatives are also underway to extend doorstep medical services to fishing communities and Chenchu tribal families through the Red Cross. Mangaluru: Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot has urged the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) to broaden its scope of services and adopt digital platforms to keep pace with the modern digital inaugurating the centenary building of the IRCS Dakshina Kannada unit in Mangaluru, the Governor suggested the trust should extend its efforts beyond traditional relief work. Ahmedabad: Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Friday flagged off a fleet of mobile medical vans dedicated to delivering doorstep healthcare services in the tribal districts of the state. The mobile medical units will operate in remote districts including Dang, Dahod, Sabarkantha, and Aravalli, aiming to strengthen last-mile healthcare access in underserved tribal areas. Each mobile van is equipped with GPRS-enabled systems and staffed with a trained team comprising a doctor, nurse, pharmacist, and driver. These vans will offer routine medical check-ups, free distribution of medicines, and basic treatment to more than 100 patients per day, with a monthly outreach target of over 10,000 individuals. In addition to providing direct healthcare, the initiative will focus on community health awareness. Under the initiative, Information campaigns on cervical cancer, breast cancer, thalassemia, and sickle cell disease prevention will be conducted in villages and hamlets. Speaking on the occasion, officials emphasised that the programme aligns with the state's broader vision of inclusive health outreach, especially for tribal and interior regions. This shows the seriousness of the government.' Shukla warned that if prompt action is not taken, the state could face a crisis similar to Punjab, often referred to as 'Udta Punjab.' The governor pointed out that the Himachal government has not been proactive in setting up rehabilitation centres. 'The state government should have moved forward to open rehab centres. For a long time, they have been saying that land has been identified and funds have been allocated, but nothing concrete has been done. If this situation continues, Himachal could turn into 'Udta Himachal,' and our generations will suffer,' he warned. 'The government of India has decided to include the efforts being made in Himachal Pradesh against drug abuse in its national programmes. This is both the inspiration of the Prime Minister and my own resolve to make Himachal drug-free.' He added that Union minister Mansukh Mandaviya has announced that these initiatives will be adopted nationwide. 'A proposal named 'Kashi Sankalp' has been passed, which will now go across the country, and I am pleased that the programmes initiated by the governor of Himachal Pradesh are part of this,' Shukla noted. The governor highlighted various initiatives launched and said that students are now required to sign a pledge during admissions, declaring they will not indulge in drug abuse, and the administration reserves the right to take disciplinary action if they are caught. 'Awareness is rising. Parents who earlier ignored their children's drug use are now proactive. Panchayats are informing police about suppliers, and the number of NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) cases has increased significantly,' Shukla stated. According to official data, NDPS cases in the state have increased from 500 in 2012 to over 2,200 in 2023. Citing a survey of 1,150 inmates, Shukla revealed that drug abuse is highest among individuals aged 15–30 years. 'Awareness is the key to reducing demand. If Punjab's government is taking steps, Himachal must act seriously,' he asserted. Shukla also urged all political leaders to unite against drug abuse. 'I have written to deputy chief minister Mukesh Agnihotri, Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur, education minister Rohit Thakur, and other ministers, requesting them to raise awareness and take action at all levels,' he said. Rave parties in Himachal Taking strict note of the rave parties, Shukla said, 'I will call the DGP and will inquire how such parties are taking place. This undermines the efforts being taken to fight drugs.'
