Telugu actor Vishnu Manchu has accused his brother
Manoj Manchu
of being involved in the theft of a crucial hard disk containing footage from their upcoming mythological film 'Kannappa'.
As per an India Today report, during a media interaction in Chennai, where Vishnu, who was promoting the film along with the cast, he claimed that a hard disk containing vital VFX work and pivotal scenes from 'Kannappa' was stolen.
According to the report, the disk was sent from Hive Studios in Mumbai to their father
Mohan Babu
's residence in Film Nagar, Hyderabad, which is the usual delivery point for packages meant for the Manchu siblings. The disk was handed over to two individuals named Raghu and Charitha, who have since gone missing. Vishnu alleged that the two are reportedly connected to Manoj Manchu, with Raghu acting as his personal assistant and Charitha linked to his office.
The theft reportedly took place about four weeks ago, but the production team only filed a police complaint after multiple unsuccessful attempts to contact Manoj and his associates. Vishnu expressed concern over the potential leak of the footage but reassured that the hard disk is password-protected, making unauthorised access highly unlikely. He urged the public not to watch any leaked content, as immense effort had gone into making the film.

He addressed the controversy while requesting the media to refrain from probing into family matters during the promotional event.
'Kannappa' is a much-anticipated pan-Indian mythological drama directed by Mukesh Kumar Singh. The film tells the story of Bhakta Kannappa, a devoted follower of Lord Shiva, with Vishnu Manchu playing the titular role. The star-studded cast includes Mohan Babu, Sarathkumar, Madhoo, and cameo appearances by Prabhas, Akshay Kumar, Mohanlal, and Kajal Aggarwal.
The film will hit the big screens on June 27.

Shiva Rajkumar denies clapping for Kamal Haasan's Kannada remark as Thug Life release in Karnataka remains uncertain
Ever since actor Kamal Haasan remarked that Kannada was born out of Tamil while promoting his upcoming film Thug Life in Karnataka, he has caused a huge uproar in the state. Kannada actor Shiva Rajkumar, who also attended the promotional event, denies clapping when Kamal made this statement, even as a pro-Kannada outfit threatens theatres not to release Thug Life in the state. He said, 'All the languages are important to us. But when it comes to the mother tongue, Kannada is the first priority, there's no doubt about that. I've said this before, I can give my life for Kannada. I should not tell that (Kamal Haasan must apologise). He is a senior actor, and I am the biggest fan of him.' He then clarified that many seem to be under the misconception that he showed support for Kamal's remark at the event by clapping when he said it. Shiva agrees he did clap, but it was for a different statement. He said, 'At the event, I did not understand what was going on. But they're showing clippings as if I'm clapping for that. I was clapping because he told, he was my chithappa (uncle).' According to ANI, a pro-Kannada organisation, Karnataka Rakshana Vedike, warned the owners of Victory Cinema Theatre in Kamakshipalya, Bengaluru, not to release Mani Ratnam's Thug Life. The Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) has also banned the film's release in Karnataka, asking the actor to apologise for his remarks. Praveen Shetty, who belongs to the organisation, told the news agency, 'Kamal Haasan has spoken against the Kannada language. We will not allow Kamal Haasan's film to be released in Karnataka. They said that the film will be released at the Victory Cinema. We came here today and told the theatre owners not to release Kamal Haasan's film. If the film is released, the government will be held responsible for any untoward incidents that follow.' Thug Life, which also stars Silambarasan TR and Trisha Krishnan in lead roles, is directed by Mani Ratnam. According to Sacnilk, Mani's previous film, Ponniyin Selvan—Part 1, earned ₹28.12 crore in Karnataka, while Part 2 made ₹22.55 crore in the state. After Tamil Nadu, Karnataka was the highest-earning state for both films. Kamal's Indian 2 made ₹8.55 crore there. The actor, however, has refused to apologise for his comment, telling the media, 'It is a democracy. I believe in law and justice. My love for Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Kerala is true. Nobody will suspect it except for those who have an agenda. I've been threatened earlier too, and if I am wrong, I would apologise, if I'm not, I won't.'

Radhika Apte feels film industry isn't conducive to needs of new mothers: ‘I don't know how I'm going to navigate it going forward'
Radhike Apte announced her pregnancy last year while walking the red carpet at the BAFTA Awards, where her British film, Karan Kandhari's black comedy Sister Midnight, was nominated in the Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director or Producer category. The film, which premiered at Cannes Film Festival last May, released across the UK and the US later in 2024. This week, as Sister Midnight finally makes its way to Indian cinemas, Radhika's daughter is six months old. Last December, a week after her birth, Radhika shared a picture of her attending a virtual work meeting while breastfeeding her baby. In fact, she was busy writing through her pregnancy and submitted her draft just a day before she went into labour. That makes her 'maternity leave' just a week-long. As she tends to her baby in London, Radhika Apte speaks to SCREEN virtually and answers whether the film industry is conducive to the needs of new mothers like her. 'I don't think they are. I don't know how I'm going to navigate that going ahead,' she says. Her confession comes in the same week where there's an ongoing discourse around how actors, who are also new moms, are finding it tough to resume work. Deepika Padukone reportedly walked out of Sandeep Reddy Vanga's film Spirit, and one of the concerns was her asking for eight-hour shifts instead of longer ones. Actor-producer Ajay Devgn defended the industry at the trailer launch event of his production Maa by claiming that not even new mothers, but people at large are enjoying shorter, eight-hour shifts now. Apte, speaking to us, reiterated why she's finding it difficult to balance work and new motherhood. 'It's really difficult to work in our film industry, given the number of hours and how we film generally, and the time for which we don't get to see the child. So I guess I'll just have to figure it out now,' she says. Coupled with that, Radhika has also been dividing her time between India and London for years. She's always had a love-hate relationship with Mumbai, although she now claims it's home, like other cities she regularly frequents. 'It was difficult to adjust in Mumbai when I first moved there. Any other big city does that to you. At the moment, Mumbai is home. I have multiple homes now, in London, Pune, and Mumbai. I love Mumbai for its spirit, and the friends and family there. But I do struggle with the lack of green space in Mumbai, I have to say,' she adds. Even before motherhood, Radhika Apte wasn't getting the kind of roles she wanted to see herself play. That prompted her to switch to screenwriting. She's previously directed The Sleepwalkers, a short film starring Gulshan Devaiah and Shahana Goswami, which is available to stream on MUBI. 'I'm tired of acting because you don't necessarily get the kind of work you want. I'm tired of doing the same thing or doing things just for the sake of it. So I'm becoming a little choosy with what I said yes to,' admits Radhika. 'Writing started because of that. I thought I'd write subjects I want to deal in because they weren't coming to me as an actor. But when I started writing, I really enjoyed it. I didn't expect that because I'd never written before. So that's why I want to explore it further,' she adds. On the acting front, Radhika will be next seen in Dharmaraj Shetty's revenge thriller show Akka on Netflix India and Justin Lin's American film Last Days, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival this year. As Radhika Apte explores work across formats, genres and languages, she doesn't want to get stuck in a structure, like her character Uma in Sister Midnight. 'Sister Midnight is about a small-town misfit who became an accidental outlaw. That's what fascinated me about the film,' she says. In the film, Uma enters an arranged marriage, after which she finds herself change in the most bizarre, supernatural way possible. Was it fun to break out of the demure homemaker mould, one that she popularly embraced in R Balki's 2018 hit Pad Man? 'There's nothing wrong with playing a demure homemaker. It was never my intention to play a badass. It's about the character, the arc, and the story you're trying to tell,' she says, adding, 'The emotional transformation is the acceptance of who she is. She discovers herself after becoming an outlaw. That self-discovery is very relatable. It's not about womanhood. It's applicable to any individual who finds discomfort in adjusting to a structure or a society.'
