Liam Neeson's Naked Gun reboot 'so dense with jokes and gags' audiences scramble to keep up
Prior to its launch, the Naked Gun remake faced enormous expectations given that the original featuring Leslie Nielsen had achieved cult status worldwide.
However, it appears Liam Neeson, who portrays Frank Drebin Jnr on a quest to crack a murder case and prevent his police department's closure, has smashed it out the park.
Directed and co-written by Akiva Schaffer, also known for being one third of The Lonely Island, the new film has opened to high praise, from film critics on Rotten Tomatoes, successfully delivering "deadpan buffoonery" whilst weaving in a compelling storyline.
One reviewer commented: "Director Akiva Schaffer and his co-writers, Dan Gregor and Doug Mand, get to the heart of the humor in a non-ironic, non-revisionist fashion."
A New York Times correspondent wrote: "As the movie continues, though, [Neeson] adds emotional texture to the character and another, somewhat similar yet also different-enough Frank Drebin emerges."
Meanwhile, another Times reviewer noted: "See it with an audience, and experience the rare and wonderful pleasure of a crowd scrambling to keep up with one of the stupidest films it's ever seen."
A fourth commentator observed: "So dense with jokes, gags and references to noir tropes and cop shows that it is impossible to clock them all on a single viewing."
Meanwhile a fourth person added: "Reviving a cult classic like The Naked Gun is a bit like bringing slapstick to a funeral - gutsy, awkward, and, when done right, oddly cathartic. Director Schaffer attempts just that, blending puns, parodies, and pop culture into a screwball cocktail... ".
And it appears the critics' views are shared by the Quaid army too. One fan declared: "A funny movie that delivered what was advertised!"
A second enthused: "loved this film. Silly and refreshing. Liam and Pam are awesome together." Whilst a third commented: "If you a fan of the originals will enjoy this. Classic Naked Gun humor gotta always be paying attention."
Beyond the movie's triumph, another hot topic amongst viewers has been the spark between Pamela Anderson and Liam Neeson. Speaking to People magazine, Liam, 73, openly admitted to being "madly in love" with the mother of two.
He revealed to the publication: "With Pamela, first off, I'm madly in love with her."

Pamela Anderson reignites Sylvester Stallone feud after claiming he made an indecent proposal
She claimed in her 2023 documentary that Sylvester Stallone once offered her a Porsche and a condo to be his 'number one girl' - an anecdote the Rocky star has denied. But Pamela Anderson is sticking by her story. Sylvester's denial was brought up during Pamela's appearance on Sunday's episode of Watch What Happens Live, where she was asked about her reaction to his insistence the conversation never happened. A defiant Pamela, 58, reignited the feud as she replied: 'Well, how could you make that up?... You know? I mean, that was pretty specific.' has contacted representatives for Sylvester, 79, for comment but did not immediately hear back. Host Andy Cohen also asked if a 'different car' would have made her give more thought to the alleged offer. 'Is there a different car that maybe would've made you think, "Oh maybe I'll..."' Andy asked. 'No,' Pamela said, 'Maybe like a Shelby Cobra?.. No, no.' Pamela was doing a joint interview with her Naked Gun co-star and rumored real-life love interest Liam Neeson, who Andy asked if he had offered the Baywatch alum a Porsche. 'Not yet!' Pamela said. The Barb Wire actress alleged in her 2023 documentary Pamela, A Love Story, that the Rambo star had 'offered me a condo and a Porsche to be his No. 1 girl. 'And I was like, "Does that mean there's No. 2? Uh-uh." 'He goes, "That's the best offer you're gonna get, honey. You're in Hollywood now." She added: 'I wanted to be in love. I didn't want anything less than that.' It is not clear when the alleged incident took place - she shot to fame on Baywatch in 1992 and she and Stallone happily posed up together at an event in 2007. Sylvester's representative told The New York Post in response to Pamela's claim: 'The statement from Pamela Anderson attributed to my client is false and fabricated. Mr. Stallone confirms that he never made any portion of that statement.' Pamela is now starring in the new comedy The Naked Gun, which has made $28,500,000 globally since it's August 1 debut, according to Box Office Mojo. It's not just the slapstick comedy that has been making headlines but also Pamela's rumored romance with co-star Liam. The two had stirred up rumors of a romance recently after sharing an unexpected amount of PDA on red carpets to promote The Naked Gun, and a source confirmed to the Daily Mail last week that they have been dating 'for a while.' During the broadcast on SiriusXM's Radio Andy with host Andy Cohen, Liam recalled being instantly charmed by his costar when they started work on the film, which is a sequel and reboot to the Leslie Nielsen-starring series of police-procedural spoofs. 'Well, you know, we had never met before and I remember thinking, "Wow, she is gorgeous," but she had this wonderful sense of silliness and just humanity about her,' Liam said. 'I don't want to blow her head up, but it was like I just felt an ease with her, you know, and we discovered a silliness with each other, which was terrific, you know?' Pamela admitted that she was 'nervous to meet [Neeson], of course and you're always nervous the first day on the set.' However, she described the film shoot and 'just easy going and very silly, which puts you at ease and very silly, on and off.'

Critics took to Rotten Tomatoes to say the Starz spin-off show 'maintains the magic' of the original Since its debut more than a decade ago, Outlander has amassed a global fanbase. The historical romance series, centring round Claire Randall/Fraser (Caitríona Balfe) and Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan), saw their love affair quickly capture hearts. However with the show nearing its end with the eighth and final season set for 2026, the phenomenon is expanding in the form of a spin-off to Diana Gabaldon's treasured franchise. "Outlander: Blood of My Blood unquestionably maintains the magic of the original show, a steamy, emotional, addictively watchable prequel that succeeds at everything fans have loved from the beginning," one person wrote. Another critic noted: "Lush, complex, beautifully shot and structured, this prequel is a thrilling addition to a franchise that has enraptured audiences from the beginning." A third said: "Outlander: Blood of My Blood is more than a prequel; it's a necessary story to tell both for the world and because of its themes." "Who could turn down another serving of such a decadent treat, especially when made with such obvious love for the original? It's clear that 'Blood of My Blood' is certainly reveling in its ability to deliver Outlander fan service," another critic remarked. One simply wrote: "Starz's Outlander saga had seduced me fully once again". One section of the series follows the love story between Ellen MacKenzie (Harriet Slater) and Brian Fraser (Jamie Roy), who are Jamie's parents. Featuring as a stand-alone series, any fans dreading the impending forever Droughtlander should be sure not to miss this one. "The series will centre on these two parallel love stories set in two different eras, with Jamie's parents in the early 18th-century Scottish Highlands and Claire's parents in WWI England," according to the official synopsis. Matthew B. Roberts, the showrunner of Outlander, will also serve as the showrunner and executive producer on the spin-off series. The first season will compose of 10 episodes.
