Boy band fans devastated after 90s group wiped out - with survivor's tribute

Daily Mirror24-05-2025
LFO were a huge 90s boy band – but the group was struck with tragedy when three members all died young. Now the remaining star is performing as a tribute to the friends he's lost
LFO may not have hit the heights of fame like 'NSYNC or Backstreet Boys, but back in the day their track Summer Girls had every teen humming along. The hopeful boy band shot their cheery music video at New York's Coney Island amusement park's beach and pier back in 1999. Litttle did they know of the horrific fate that awaited, bringing LFO to an end as three of its four members died.
Yet an astonishing 26 years later, the band's sole survivor is performing again in memory of the friends he lost. Brad Fischetti, now 49, has been singing with The LFO Story, recently wowing crowds in Celebration, Florida, with a special gig.

Formed in 1995 after Brad and Rich Cronin connected with Brian 'Brizz' Gillis in New Bedford, Massachusetts, LFO struggled initially. Their fortunes turned when Brizz departed in 1999, and Devin Lima's joining led to their chart-topping success, with Summer Girls reaching No 1 in the US and No 16 on the UK Official Singles Chart.
LFO's song was packed full of 80s and 90s references including Cherry Coke, actors Macaulay Culkin, Kevin Bacon and Michael J. Fox, their fellow boy band New Kids On The Block, and even Abercrombie & Fitch.
The band seemed destined for stardom as they clinched the Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Award for Favourite Group of the Year in 2000, performed over 230 gigs – including opening for pop sensation Britney Spears – and even unleashed their own line of dolls in 2001. However, the fickle tides of music trends meant they had a disappointing second album, prompting them to part ways in 2002.
Rich Cronin then faced a fierce battle with leukaemia but emerged victorious post-treatment, expressing gratitude for his charmed life in showbiz: "I am truly thankful for the success I had," and adding wistfully, "And if it happens again, that'd be really nice. I'm just that same guy writing pop songs to make people happy. And I still only like girls in Abercrombie and Fitch."
In an inspiring turn, LFO got back together in 2009, hitting the road with their music. But all was not well, as Rich's health waned again, with his band mates rallying round him reminiscent of UK sensation The Wanted's support for Tom Parker amidst his own cancer battle.

Reflecting on their renewed bond in the shadow of adversity, Brad shared in 2010, "He was so happy. We really became soulmates. Devin and I both realised how much we loved him, despite the differences we had in the past." Despite Rich's valiant battle with his illness, he tragically passed away in Boston in September 2010 at the age of 36.
Seven years later, in July 2017, Brad and Devin released a fresh LFO track – their first in a whopping 15 years. They vowed to continue their musical journey and always remember Rich. Yet just three months on, more heartbreaking news arrived. This time it was Devin who received a devastating blow.

He discovered he had an extremely rare form of cancer and nderwent surgery to remove a tumour the size of a football from his stomach, as well as one of his kidneys. Before his hospital admission, Devin said that he didn't believe it was a type of cancer and simply wanted it removed from his body.
Although his surgery appeared successful, a year later, Devin sadly succumbed to his illness at 41 years old, leaving behind his girlfriend and six children.
And in another shocking turn of events, original LFO member Brizz also passed away in March 2023, at just 48. His family did not disclose the cause of his death.

Posting on Instagram earlier this month, Brad Fischetti honoured his bandmates after his LFO Story gig, saying: "We honored the boys in a big way. The LFO Story show last week was beautiful and epic. Thank you for the love and support. Big thanks to the all of who made it possible and to @celebration.foundation for hosting us. The biggest thanks to Rich and Devin for leaving a beautiful legacy behind. We will nurture it and honor you for as long as the people will allow us to."
Fans have been swift to post their broken-hearted responses, with one saying: "Devin and Rich are there in spirit and are proud of you @thereallfo. Thank you to Trevor for helping to honor Devin and Rich," while another commented: "Those guys are extremely missed." A third simply said: ""We miss u Rich & Devin."

Sashi Perera: the 10 funniest things I have ever seen (on the internet)

I love the internet. People from the time before the internet always talk about how great that time was. They're lying. Some things were exactly the same: there was love and war, and people pushed doors clearly marked 'pull', especially if someone was watching. But we had to bear these experiences without a tool to ferret out as much information as possible about anything or anyone at any time. So it was definitely a worse time. When a dial-up connection came into my life at 12, I threw myself at the internet with the intensity usually reserved for Backstreet Boys dances. I've aggressively communicated on every virtual platform since its inception, and the best bit is the link to all the funnies. Sign up for the fun stuff with our rundown of must-reads, pop culture and tips for the weekend, every Saturday morning I don't have to warn anyone that I'm strange any more – I'm a comedian now so it's assumed – but it was a surprise to myself that this list came out as mostly music and animals. Here it is in no particular order. It's hard knowing that I'll never write a joke as funny as someone falling over. When I'm having a bad day, I watch giant pandas falling over to cackle (they're totally fine, it's part of their development according to this zoo). There are many wildly talented people in Australian comedy making everyone laugh. No one does it in under 10 seconds like Anisa – here she is pretending to be a snake to get closer to Robert Irwin. This is the sum total of my deep love of Michael Bolton, Erin Brockovich, my nightclub era and the height of Lonely Island's dominance of the internet. There is something about Michael – we are on first name terms, but he doesn't know that – saying 'well hey there, I'm a legal lady' that still gets me. Taylor Swift's Trouble was on every radio wave when my brother happened upon this video mixing the chorus with a screaming goat and it never fails to dissolve me into laughter. There's a scene in this music video where she smashes a printer in the office in slow motion and I used to watch it on repeat to feel joy. In hindsight, there were many signs that I wasn't happy being a lawyer. Angelina Jolie plans to move abroad as she prepares to leave Hollywood

Angelina Jolie's next career move has been revealed as she prepares to be the latest A-lister to flee Hollywood. The Maria actress, 50, is reuniting with the Mr. and Mrs. Smith director Doug Liman for another spy thriller. She is starring in the upcoming film titled The Initiative with Liman directing and F. Scott Frazier writing the script, per The Hollywood Reporter. She last worked with the director on the set of the 2005 action-comedy, where she met her ex-husband Brad Pitt. Jolie will portray a rogue master spy named Bright in the movie, which has been described as 'Training Day set in the world spycraft.' The story follows Bright as a new agent named Charlie joins her team and finds himself in concerning situations — 'where he isn't sure whether his new boss is trying to kill him or simply is willing to do whatever is necessary to protect the free world.' News of Jolie's next career move comes after she starred in last year's Maria Callas biopic Maria after appearing in 2021's Eternals and leading the two Maleficent films. The Oscar winner had studios vying for the project as they anticipated her highly sought-after return to the action thrillers that made her a box office darling following her roles in Salt, Wanted and The Tourist. Universal won the multi-studio competition for the upcoming project, and now, the studio is gearing up to start filming in early 2026. This comes amid news that Jolie is reportedly looking to sell her historic Los Angeles home and move abroad as the latest A-lister to pack up to leave Hollywood behind. She is reportedly 'eyeing several locations abroad,' according to People. The mom-of-six wants to 'put the house up for sale' and move when her youngest kids, twins Knox and Vivienne, turn 18 next year. She shares the twins as well as Maddox, 24, Pax, 21, Zahara, 20, and Shiloh, 19, with ex-husband Brad, 61. The Oscar winner 'never wanted to live in L.A. full time' but she 'didn't have a choice because of the custody arrangement with Brad,' a source told the publication. The exes reached a settlement in their ugly divorce in December 2024 after an eight-year legal battle. 'She'll be very happy when she's able to leave Los Angeles,' the insider added. has reached out to Jolie's representatives for comment. The insider went on to say that Jolie's estate is 'a historic masterpiece.' The actress is reportedly looking to make some minor improvements before putting the home on the market. The historic estate, once owned by iconic Hollywood director Cecil B. DeMille, was purchased by Angelina in 2017 for a cool $24.5 million. It boasts six bedrooms, ten bathrooms, and comes complete with stunning architecture, world-class gardens, an on-site library and much more. As well as huge gardens with a swimming pool, the property is surrounded with lush greenery and retro chic arched fountains. A tea house looks out onto the swimming pool, and there's also a fitness room in the pool house. She bought the home just eight-months after her split from Pitt. The property's rich Hollywood history began in 1916 when it was purchased by DeMille (pictured center) for less than $28,000. He went on to expand the estate by buying the neighboring home, which had been owned by screen legend Charlie Chaplin, and merging the two properties. Jolie previously opened up about her desire to leave Los Angeles in 2024, but said she had to remain in California until her and Pitt's six children all turn 18. 'I grew up in this town [Los Angeles]. I am here because I have to be here from a divorce, but as soon as they're 18, I'll be able to leave,' she told The Hollywood Reporter. She continued: 'When you have a big family, you want them to have privacy, peace, safety. I have a house now to raise my children, but sometimes this place can be … that humanity that I found across the world is not what I grew up with here.' After her youngest two children become legal adults, Jolie said she plans on spending 'a lot of time in Cambodia' and visiting her 'family members wherever they may be in the world.' Jolie will join a number of other Hollywood stars who've left Los Angeles in recent years, including Natalie Portman, Mark Wahlberg, Eva Longoria, Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi, Sophie Turner as well as Rosie O'Donnell among others. Earlier this month it was reported that Jolie is having a tough time with daughter Shiloh's next chapter , as the 19-year-old has flown the nest with her rumored love interest, dancer Keoni Rose. Sources told the Daily Mail that Shiloh, who recently dropped her famous dad's last name amid their estrangement, has 'temporarily moved in' with Keoni for the summer. Exclusive photos obtained by the Daily Mail confirmed the move, showing the rumored couple hugging outside their shared Los Angeles condo. The reported move also comes after cops arrested a trespasser in Jolie's Los Angeles neighborhood. In July law enforcement detained an individual who entered the Los Feliz enclave by slipping through a gate. It happened shortly after Jolie's ex-husband Pitt's home was broken into while he was in Tokyo. The actor's neighbors have suggested security at the mansion may have been compromised in the days leading up to the dramatic break-in. Pitt and Jolie's romance began in the early 2000s, and they tied the knot in 2014 at their château in the South of France.
