Boy band fans devastated after 90s group wiped out - with survivor's tribute
LFO were a huge 90s boy band – but the group was struck with tragedy when three members all died young. Now the remaining star is performing as a tribute to the friends he's lost
LFO may not have hit the heights of fame like 'NSYNC or Backstreet Boys, but back in the day their track Summer Girls had every teen humming along. The hopeful boy band shot their cheery music video at New York's Coney Island amusement park's beach and pier back in 1999. Litttle did they know of the horrific fate that awaited, bringing LFO to an end as three of its four members died.
Yet an astonishing 26 years later, the band's sole survivor is performing again in memory of the friends he lost. Brad Fischetti, now 49, has been singing with The LFO Story, recently wowing crowds in Celebration, Florida, with a special gig.
Formed in 1995 after Brad and Rich Cronin connected with Brian 'Brizz' Gillis in New Bedford, Massachusetts, LFO struggled initially. Their fortunes turned when Brizz departed in 1999, and Devin Lima's joining led to their chart-topping success, with Summer Girls reaching No 1 in the US and No 16 on the UK Official Singles Chart.
LFO's song was packed full of 80s and 90s references including Cherry Coke, actors Macaulay Culkin, Kevin Bacon and Michael J. Fox, their fellow boy band New Kids On The Block, and even Abercrombie & Fitch.
The band seemed destined for stardom as they clinched the Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Award for Favourite Group of the Year in 2000, performed over 230 gigs – including opening for pop sensation Britney Spears – and even unleashed their own line of dolls in 2001. However, the fickle tides of music trends meant they had a disappointing second album, prompting them to part ways in 2002.
Rich Cronin then faced a fierce battle with leukaemia but emerged victorious post-treatment, expressing gratitude for his charmed life in showbiz: "I am truly thankful for the success I had," and adding wistfully, "And if it happens again, that'd be really nice. I'm just that same guy writing pop songs to make people happy. And I still only like girls in Abercrombie and Fitch."
In an inspiring turn, LFO got back together in 2009, hitting the road with their music. But all was not well, as Rich's health waned again, with his band mates rallying round him reminiscent of UK sensation The Wanted's support for Tom Parker amidst his own cancer battle.
Reflecting on their renewed bond in the shadow of adversity, Brad shared in 2010, "He was so happy. We really became soulmates. Devin and I both realised how much we loved him, despite the differences we had in the past." Despite Rich's valiant battle with his illness, he tragically passed away in Boston in September 2010 at the age of 36.
Seven years later, in July 2017, Brad and Devin released a fresh LFO track – their first in a whopping 15 years. They vowed to continue their musical journey and always remember Rich. Yet just three months on, more heartbreaking news arrived. This time it was Devin who received a devastating blow.
He discovered he had an extremely rare form of cancer and nderwent surgery to remove a tumour the size of a football from his stomach, as well as one of his kidneys. Before his hospital admission, Devin said that he didn't believe it was a type of cancer and simply wanted it removed from his body.
Although his surgery appeared successful, a year later, Devin sadly succumbed to his illness at 41 years old, leaving behind his girlfriend and six children.
And in another shocking turn of events, original LFO member Brizz also passed away in March 2023, at just 48. His family did not disclose the cause of his death.
Posting on Instagram earlier this month, Brad Fischetti honoured his bandmates after his LFO Story gig, saying: "We honored the boys in a big way. The LFO Story show last week was beautiful and epic. Thank you for the love and support. Big thanks to the all of who made it possible and to @celebration.foundation for hosting us. The biggest thanks to Rich and Devin for leaving a beautiful legacy behind. We will nurture it and honor you for as long as the people will allow us to."
Fans have been swift to post their broken-hearted responses, with one saying: "Devin and Rich are there in spirit and are proud of you @thereallfo. Thank you to Trevor for helping to honor Devin and Rich," while another commented: "Those guys are extremely missed." A third simply said: ""We miss u Rich & Devin."

Brad Pitt speaks out for first time after eight-year divorce from Angelina Jolie
Brad Pitt has opened up on his long-running divorce from ex-wife Angelina Jolie for the first time, after ending the dispute with an agreement earlier this year Brad Pitt has finally broken his silence on the end of his tumultuous divorce saga with Angelina Jolie. The Hollywood actor, 61, tied the knot with Angelina, now 49, in 2014 after a whirlwind romance that began on the set of 'Mr. and Mrs. Smith' back in 2005. The pair parted ways in 2016, sparking a high-profile split that saw Angelina file for divorce in the same year, leading to a series of bitter disputes over custody and business interests, some of which remain unresolved. Discussing the closure of his divorce proceedings, the 'F1' actor downplayed the event, telling reporters: "No, I don't think it was that major of a thing. Just something coming to fruition. Legally." The ex-couple's legal wrangles have included battles over their six children and the division of their shared assets, such as the Château Miraval winery located in France. Brad and Angelina share a brood of six: Maddox, 23, Pax, 21, Zahara, 20, Shiloh, 19, and twins Knox and Vivienne, both 16. In a candid GQ interview, Brad touched upon the relentless media attention he's faced, remarking: "It's been in the news for 30 years, bro. Or some version of my personal life, let's put it that way." Currently, Brad is living in Los Angeles with his partner, 32-year-old jewellery executive Ines de Ramon. When quizzed about whether their glamorous appearance at the 2024 British Grand Prix was a strategic move to promote F1, Brad dismissed the suggestion of any promotional intent. He remarked: "No, dude, it's not that calculated. If you're living, oh my God, how exhausting would that be? If you're living with making those kinds of calculations? No, life just evolves. Relationships evolve." When quizzed by the publication on whether Formula 1 was a sanctuary from the limelight, Brad Pitt replied: "Um, I don't see it that way." He continued: "It's been an annoyance I've had to always deal with in different degrees, large and small, as I do the things I really want to do. "So, it's always been this kind of nagging time suck or waste of time, if you let it be that, I don't know. I don't know." Reflecting on his personal life, Brad shared: "Mostly I feel pretty... my life is fairly contained. "It feels pretty warm and secure with my friends, with my loves, with my fam, with my knowledge of who I am, that, you know, it's like this fly buzzing around a little bit." The actor, who was once married to Jennifer Aniston until their split in 2005, seems to have found a sense of peace amidst the chaos of fame. When Brad and Angelina's divorce was finalised, her lawyer released a statement saying: "Frankly, Angelina is exhausted, but she is relieved this one part is over.' Lawyer James Simon added to the Associated Press: "More than eight years ago, Angelina filed for divorce from Mr Pitt. She and the children left all of the properties they had shared with Mr Pitt, and since that time she has focused on finding peace and healing for their family. 'This is just one part of a long ongoing process that started eight years ago.'

Hugh Jackman's cryptic Instagram post raises eyebrows as Deborra-Lee Furness officially files for divorce
has made a telling post after ex-wife Deborra-Lee Furness officially filed for divorce from her husband of 27 years. The Greatest Showman star, 56, took to Instagram on Wednesday to post a clip of him nailing a skipping routine in his show Hugh Jackman Live From New York With Love, which he's performing at Radio City Music Hall. However, it was the clip's chosen background track - NSYNC's Bye Bye Bye - that raised eyebrows considering the recent divorce developments. The video, which was posted to his 34.1 million followers, is clearly a reference to Deadpool & Wolverine, the 2024 flick that he filmed with Ryan Reynolds which features the hit song. However the timing of the post - as well as its one word caption - made it all the more cryptic. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. 'Finally,' he captioned the video, alluding to the length of time it took to nail the routine. The video was posted the same day that Deborra-Lee took a swipe at her estranged husband amid the flurry of rumours that he cheated on her with his current girlfriend Sutton Foster. Following her decision to officially file for divorce from the Les Miserables star two years after announcing their separation, the Australian actress, 69, addressed her heartbreak in an exclusive statement to 'My heart and compassion goes out to everyone who has traversed the traumatic journey of betrayal,' she said. 'It's a profound wound that cuts deep, however I believe in a higher power and that God/the universe, whatever you relate to as your guidance, is always working FOR us.' She continued, 'This belief has helped me navigate the breakdown of an almost three-decade marriage. I have gained much knowledge and wisdom through this experience. Even when we are presented with apparent adversity, it is leading us to our greatest good, our true purpose. 'It can hurt, but in the long run, returning to yourself and living within your own integrity, values and boundaries is liberation and freedom.' She concluded her statement with the 'one thing' that she has learned, which is 'that none of this is personal,' adding, 'We are all on our individual journeys and I believe that the relationships in our lives are not random. 'We are drawn to people, we invite them in, in order to learn our lessons and to recognize and heal the broken parts of ourselves...I remain grateful.' Back in January, exclusively reported that the estranged spouses had yet to file as their decision to dismiss a prenup was proving to be a point of contention. Insiders at the time claimed that their split could get 'messy' as they were struggling to divvy up their estimated $250 million fortune. 'One of the biggest reasons why they haven't yet filed is that they never had a prenup,' an insider close to Jackman said. 'When they got married, they thought it would be forever. Who doesn't? At the time, neither of them expected Hugh's career to get as enormous as it has. 'Because there was no prenup, and he made a fortune during their marriage, this divorce is not going to be cut and dry. It may even get messy because the stakes are high. A lot of moving parts need to be worked out and there is a huge amount of money involved.' The insider insisted they both wanted to 'make this as easy as possible,' but that after three decades and one partner becoming a massive A-list star, 'it's not quite that easy.' In March, the divorce was brewing but they struggled to reach an agreement on how to divide their assets, a source revealed to 'Hugh and Deborra-Lee have not yet filed for divorce because they are struggling to reach an agreement on how to divide their assets,' a source said. 'Deborra-Lee feels entitled to more money than Hugh is willing to offer.' Her insistence on getting a bigger chunk of their estimated fortune was said to be fuelled by the murky origins of his romance with Foster. 'While he didn't physically cheat on her with Sutton, Deborra-Lee believes they were having an emotional affair and she feels he betrayed her,' the source continued. Their marriage started to fall apart during Covid, as previously reported by around the same time that Jackman struck up a friendship with Foster, his costar on the 2022 Broadway revival of The Music Man. She was married to Ted Griffin at the time (Griffin and Foster are also in the midst of finalizing their divorce). Furness and Jackman announced the end of their marriage in a shock statement in September 2023, telling fans that they were 'shifting' and as a result had decided to 'separate to pursue our individual growth.' They were married in Melbourne, Australia, in April 1996 before adopting their son Oscar, now 24, in 2000. Five years later they completed their family unit when they adopted daughter Ava, 19.
