21 Forgotten Websites From The Early 2000s

Buzz Feed2 days ago
TikTok, Instagram, and social media as a whole have definitely taken a toll on today's youth. They'll never understand the struggles of the early internet, when nothing was at your fingertips, and high-speed connections were a luxury. The internet was a weird, clunky place. Not nearly as all-consuming as it is now, but those early browsing days laid the groundwork for the kinds of communities we now see on modern platforms.
Back then, followers weren't the metric for anything, mostly because no one was being followed. Technically, you were making "friends," whether it was strangers you added to your Top 8 on MySpace or people with cool Neopets you kept tabs on.
Those early internet days truly shaped our online lives. In a lot of ways, they made us more grateful for the instant access we have now. Napster and LimeWire basically walked so Spotify could run, if we're being honest. But there's something deeply nostalgic about that bare-bones version of the web — messy, slow, and full of personality.
I recently stumbled across a post on r/AskReddit where someone asked, 'What's an early Internet site kids these days will never know?' From pre-Google search engines to flash game havens, here are 21 of the most beloved early internet websites people are reminiscing about:
"Addicting Games."
"Ask Jeeves."
"I remember I held out on Google for a long time because I used a site called Dogpile. Edit: Just checked and it's still running. Very cool, maybe I will have to go back to my roots."
"Homestar Runner."
"Geocities."
"The old Cartoon Network website. Treasure trove of games. I, for one, had a blast making my own Codename: Kids Next Door ID and printing it at my mom's office. Color and all."
"I still have an Angelfire site online from the mid-to-late '90s. Have no password for it, no idea how to access it. I think the page counter stopped counting."
"Ebaum's World."
"I really wish the old Candystand was still around. I want to play Lifesavers mini-golf again for the nostalgia. I still remember learning about it in study hall because a teacher let one of the football stars play Candystand mini-golf on the smart board. I went home and immediately pulled it up on the family PC to start my own addiction to Candystand. They had so many great games I could play that were way more fun than writing a 20-page Shakespearean tragedy."
"MetaCrawler. My first was good ol' webcrawler in '96."
"Napster. The original."
"StumbleUpon was such a gem. I don't know if it was because the internet was smaller back then, but it was so much easier to find diverse, but quality content. These days it feels like we're stuck to platforms that provide specific types of content and little control over the algorithm."
"Even after Google came out, I stuck it out with AltaVista for a long time; I was convinced it would make the long haul over Google, even though almost all my friends had been sold already. 😅"
"I still remember the song, something like, 'TO STAY ALIVE I FIGHT FOR BREATH, THEN AGAIN I DIE IN STICK DEATH, I DIE IN STICK DEATH.'"
"Bored.com was not blocked when I worked at a call center, so that made the workdays possible."
"Anyone remember JoeCartoon?"
"Obvious pick: MySpace."
"'You can do anything...at zombocom...the only limit is you. Welcome, you. YES YOU...to zombocom.'"
"Neopets."
"Awwww I miss ThinkGeek so much, they had such cool shit"
"Miniclip (still exists but looks nothing like what it used to look like back in 2008/2009). With smartphones and apps you can install directly, I somehow doubt kids are using Miniclip or websites like it. Not to mention flash games are sort of dead since the end of Adobe, from what I've understood."
Do you remember any of these long-forgotten websites? Let's reminisce in the comments.

Kim Kardashian's Skims face wrap sparks jokes: 'What in the Hannibal'

Kim Kardashian has found a new body part to shape. On Tuesday, July 29, Skims unveiled the seamless sculpt face wrap, a new addition to the clothing brand's shapewear line designed to offer jaw support and marketed as "infused with collagen yarn." The brand calls it a "must-have addition to your nightly routine." The wrap, made of polyamide and elastane, quickly sold out online, according to the Skims website. The skincare-adjacent shapewear is just the latest viral offering from Kardashian. Skims has long offered a unique take on sculpting garments, offering everything from the nipple bra to hip-enhancing padded shorts. Online, users had a lot to say about the newest product from the underwear and loungewear brand. "Skims is selling some kind of medieval torture device for your face," one user wrote on X. "The new Skims Ultimate Face 'face innovation' reminds me of Goodnight Mommy," another person said, referencing the 2022 psychological horror film. One Instagram user was similarly spooked. "What in the Hannibal is this," they wrote in Skims' comments. Another person on Instagram questioned what good the product would do for the person modeling it. "I was gonna say… this 19 yr old model NEEDS THIS." Other users were excited about the new product offer. "No but legit, I have a connective tissue disorder that caused TMJ (temporomandibular joint disorder) and my jaw recesses at night which causes mouth breathing + allergies so I am actually stoked for this!" another Instagram user said. "I'd use this over mouth tape," another person chimed in. Dr. Akash Chandawarkar, a surgeon, commented that the wrap could have post-operation uses. "Perfect for after facelift, necklift, or submental lipo." The face wrap takes a page out of South Korean skincare trends and TikTok viral "morning shed" routines, both of which offer an elaborate take on skincare. Skims is still set to release its collaboration with Nike, NikeSkims, though it has been delayed. A new date for the drop has yet to be announced.

January Jones and her rarely-seen son Xander, 13, make red carpet appearance together

January Jones and Xander Dane had a mother-son day for a good cause. The actress, 47, made a red carpet appearance with rarely-seen 13-year-old while at the 18th annual SeaChange Summer Party in Laguna Beach, California, on Saturday. The 'Mad Men' alum donned a black dress, sandals, and a black headband as the pair posed for photos. 8 January Jones and son Xander Dane. Getty Images Xander, who is nearly the same height as his famous mom, wore a linen striped shirt with white pants and black Adidas sneakers. 'So excited to celebrate Oceana's 23rd birthday and attend @oceanaseachange last night!' Jones wrote on Instagram, alongside a close-up of herself and Xander. She covered the teen's face with a light blue heart emoji. Jones has largely kept her son out of the spotlight, having last brought Xander to the same event when he was 10 years old in 2021. 8 January Jones and her son Xander Dane at the 18th Annual SeaChange Summer Party. Getty Images Jones has never publicly revealed the identity of Xander's father, telling The New York Times in 2013, 'That's my son's business. It's not the public's business.' The Sioux Falls native, meanwhile, rarely shares Xander's life on social media except for birthdays. On Sept. 13, 2024, the 'Love, Actually' alum posted an Instagram Story of Xander in front of a sunset, captioning the sweet shot, 'Bday boy is a teen 😩.' A year prior, Jones marked the special occasion with an Instagram video of Xander dancing in front of Nobu Malibu. 8 January Jones stuns in a black dress while her 13-year-old Xander wears a linen top and Adidas. Getty Images 'Happy Birthday to my child. So proud to be yours,' she penned. 'Couldn't love you more.' Despite keeping her son's life private, Jones teased in 2023 just how he's inspired her fashion sense. 'I never expected my midlife crisis to say 'take all fashion cues from teenage boys' yet here I am,' she teased on social media at the time. 8 January Jones poses on the red carpet at Montage Laguna Beach. While Jones has kept tight-lipped on the identity of her son's father, she did open up about her motherhood journey in 2017. 'My younger sisters [Jacey and Jina] and my mum and my doula were in the room,' she revealed to Red Magazine about Xander's birth. 'My brother-in-law and my dad were next door. I only wanted women with me. Female energy. And I was embarrassed – your body does all these crazy things. It was a 30-hour process but it was awesome. I'd love to do it again.' 8 January Jones on July 26, 2025 in Laguna Beach, California. Getty Images The female energy still surrounds her only child today. 'Maybe too much,' she joked to the outlet. 'Maybe I should get a manny soon,' Jones pondered. 'But Xander has a lot of bro time with the neighbor dads and my dad, who is super young.' 8 January Jones poses with Xander. Kay Blake/ZUMA Press Wire / Shutterstock 'It's good to have strong women around a man,' she continued. 'To teach him to respect women. He doesn't have a male person in his life saying 'don't cry' or 'you throw like a girl.' All those shitty things dads accidentally do.' Jones added that her male friends also 'want to be around him because he's such a fun kid.' 'I love to cook a soup on Sundays for football,' stated Jones. 'Have the neighbors over – the kids play.' 8 January Jones celebrates her son's birthday will a sweet video. januaryjones/Instagram The Hollywood vet also detailed her tight schedule, sharing, 'It's just me and a nanny. No one lives in the house with us. I go to work, always leave at 5pm, come home, let the nanny go and then I'm mum.' 'I put Xander to bed. Watch two hours of reality TV,' she noted, 'then go to bed myself. It's escapism – 'The Bachelor,' 'The Bachelorette,' 'The Housewives' of Whatever – all of them.' At the time, Jones also made it clear she wasn't actively looking for love. 8 January Jones and son Xander Dane Jones attend the Los Angeles Mission's Annual Thanksgiving. Getty Images 'People want to set me up all the time and I'm like, 'No way.' If I meet someone and we go out, then fine, but I'm not going to go look.' 'I realize I have very high expectations and will probably have to compromise – but my life is so full,' Jones explained. 'It's not like, 'Aww, I wish I had a man.' After I had Xander, I went on a couple of dates and I was like, 'I'd rather be at home sleeping, or watching TV or hanging out with my kid.''

Love Island's JaNa And Kenny's Messy Breakup Explained

Earlier this week, rumors began swirling that JaNa Craig and Kenny Rodriguez — who placed third in the Season 6 finale of Love Island USA — had called it quits after almost a year together. For some quick context, while JaNa and Kenny had some heartbreaking relationship drama in the villa, they seemed very solid after the show wrapped and have gushed about each other repeatedly over the past year. With this in mind, fans were pretty shocked when rumors of the breakup began bubbling — namely after JaNa unfollowed Kenny on Instagram, with her former Season 6 costars Serena Page and Leah Kateb later doing the same. Amid all the chatter, JaNa broke her silence yesterday, July 29, with a statement on Instagram. She said, 'Hi my loves. Thank you for all your love & support. It means the world to me. As you know, Kenny and I no longer together. Please know that I have seen all the breakup theories and none have matched up to how terrible, disgusting and disappointing it truly is. Discovering that someone you loved isn't who you thought they were and that the relationship you thought you were building hasn't been genuine since day one has been truly devastating.' Kenny also shared a statement on Instagram, writing, 'The past few days have been incredibly difficult. l've been quietly sitting with a lot of emotions and doing my best to process everything privately. Breakups are never easy, especially in the public eye. Sometimes, despite how deeply you care for someone, you come to the hard truth that the relationship was not something that could last long-term. I'll always be grateful for the time we shared and the memories we created. I release this chapter with no ill will, only a hope that JaNa's path forward brings her nothing but happiness.' However, things got incredibly messy when JaNa released a second statement calling Kenny a 'manipulative liar.' She wrote, '@kennyrodriguez stfu you manipulative liar. You not taking any accountability and telling people the type of person you really are is insane to me!! My first statement was me being nice. Do not piss me off.' Leah then reposted JaNa's second statement and shared some words of her own. '@kennyrodriguez Put a sock in it ChatGPT headass. Tell the truth for once! Racist, clout/money hungry and a scammer since DAY 1!!!!' she alleged. And then, fellow Season 6 Love Island stars Olivia Walker and Kaylor Martin entered the conversation. Olivia wrote, 'Your pathetic excuse for a story is laughable. I can't even put into words how good of a person naynay is and how hard it is watch her go through something like this. @kennyrodriguez I hope this gives you the clout you always wanted you fucking loser,' while Kaylor said, '@kennyrodriguez is a poor excuse of a man. You lost the most beautiful genuine soul. Shame on you.' What's more, Leah has since accused Kenny of deleting her Instagram comments under his posts, while asking him to stop posting content with Miguel. 'How about you delete my man off your page instead of deleting my comment,' she wrote. Meanwhile, JaNa's close friend Charmane Smith shared an eyebrow-raising message via Instagram, which has since been deleted. She wrote, 'My advice for women in relationships: if you have access, go thru your mans phone TODAY. Search keywords like 'I don't like black women, I thought I would get more money from this, I'm faking this relationship, going on the show would be for clout, I can't wait to be done w this so I can fuck hella bitches' … You'll thank me later. P.S- NEVER spare a man. Dog them out baby girl.' Kenny hasn't yet publicly addressed any of the allegations, and aside from his initial statement, he hasn't offered further comment on the split. We'll keep you posted if more unfolds.
