Karnataka launches AI Workforce Impact Study to guide new IT Policy 2025
Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], June 17 (ANI): The Karnataka government has launched a comprehensive study to assess the impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on the state's workforce.
This initiative, taken up by the Department of Electronics, IT and Biotechnology, Government of Karnataka, aims to inform the upcoming IT Policy 2025 and shape strategic interventions under the Government's flagship skilling initiative NIPUNA Karnataka.
Karnataka continues to lead India's technological journey with Bengaluru recently ranked #5 globally in AI and Big Data ecosystems and home to over 1 lakh AI professionals.
The state is placing strong emphasis on evidence-based policymaking to ensure inclusive, future-ready growth.
'Our tech workforce has crossed 1 million professionals and Bengaluru has emerged as the undisputed AI capital of India. But as AI rapidly reshapes industries, we must ensure our people are not left behind,' said Priyank Kharge, Minister for IT, BT and RDPR, as per a state government statement.
'This study is a crucial step to help us understand the evolving job landscape, guide smart skilling investments under our reskilling program NIPUNA Karnataka and safeguard our most valuable asset--our talent. I urge all industry leaders to share their insights,' the minister said.
The AI Workforce Impact Survey invites responses from industry leaders, HR heads, technology practitioners and academia.
The survey, among other things, aims to understand how AI is being integrated into day-to-day operations across organizations, which business functions are seeing the biggest changes due to wider access to AI tools and which job roles are most vulnerable to automation.
These insights will be crucial in identifying skill gaps, emerging job roles and the nature of workforce disruptions across sectors and will directly help the Government design practical, forward-looking policies that support both innovation and workforce resilience.
The survey is open until June 27, 2025 and all responses will remain confidential and anonymous. (ANI)

Representative Image NEW DELHI: The Directorate General of Civil Aviation Tuesday expressed "concern regarding recent maintenance-related issues" reported by Air India and directed the airline to focus on safety while "strengthen(ing) internal coordination across engineering, operations, ground handling units". Since a significant number of AI flights are being delayed or cancelled due to multiple factors - airspace closures and aircraft shortage due to technical issues and 787 checks - causing passenger inconvenience, the regulator has asked AI to "ensure availability of adequate spares to mitigate delays resulting from such issues & adhere to regulations". A DGCA team led by DG Faiz Ahmed Kidwai summoned Tuesday a meeting with AI MD Campbell Wilson, director (flight operations) Captain Pankul Mathur, AI Express CEO Aloke Singh, and officials of both airlines, which operate over 1,000 domestic & international flights daily, to "review operations amid increasing flights", and to "review the operational robustness of the airlines and ensure continued compliance with safety and passenger service regulations". In the six days between between last Thursday (when AI 171 crashed) and 6pm Tuesday, AI operated 462 flights on its wide-body fleet of Boeing 787s, B777s and Airbus A350s, while canceling 83 flights. Of these, the B787s (one of which crashed in Ahmedabad) operated 248, or 53.7%, of the long hauls but accounted for almost 80% (66) of these cancellations for multiple reasons. AI now has 33 B787s. "Of these, four are undergoing major checks. As of 3pm on July 17, 24 aircraft have completed the required check. An additional two are planned for completion on Tuesday, with one more scheduled for Wednesday. The remaining six include two that are grounded in Delhi. Checks on these two will be carried out post-declaration of serviceability and prior to their return to service. The remaining four aircraft under MRO (maintenance, repair, overhaul) will undergo mandated check prior to their release from their maintenance hangars," the regulator said. PM Modi Meets Canadian PM, Calls India-Canada Ties "Extremely Important"
Kananaskis, Canada: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said relations between India and Canada are "extremely important" and the two nations should work together to achieve win-win cooperation in various sectors. Prime Minister Modi and his Canadian counterpart Mark Carney held bilateral discussions on the margins of the G7 Summit here. This was the first meeting between the two leaders since Carney assumed office in May 2025. Congratulating Carney on his "grand victory" in the election, PM Modi said, "I am sure under your leadership, we will be able to work together in a positive way and take the India-Canada relationship forward." Carney, an economist and political newcomer, took charge as Canada's new prime minister in March following the exit of Trudeau from the top office. After Trudeau's exit, New Delhi said it hoped to rebuild ties with Canada based on "mutual trust and sensitivity". In the last few months, the security officials of India and Canada resumed contact and both sides were looking at the possibility of appointing new high commissioners. Describing India and Canada as "vibrant democracies", the external affairs ministry said last week that New Delhi believes the forthcoming meeting between the prime ministers of the two countries on the sidelines of the G7 Summit will offer an important opportunity to exchange views and "explore pathways" to reset bilateral ties. During PM Modi's last visit in 2015, bilateral ties were elevated to the level of strategic partnership. Bilateral trade in goods in 2024 stood at USD 8.6 billion. India exported USD 4.2 billion and imported USD 4.4 billion worth of goods. Bilateral trade in services in 2024 stood at USD 14.3 billion, with India exporting USD 2.5 billion and importing USD 11.8 billion worth of services.
