Marcos Approves Proposed ₱6.793 Trillion National Budget for 2026
During a Cabinet meeting at the Palace, the President emphasized that the national budget must promote both economic growth and better quality of life for all citizens.
The Department of Budget and Management (DBM), led by Secretary Amenah Pangandaman, submitted the 2026 National Expenditure Program (NEP), which is 7.4% higher than the previous year's budget and accounts for 22% of the country's GDP.
The budget theme, 'Agenda for Prosperity: Nurturing Future-Ready Generations to Achieve the Full Potential of the Nation,' centers on social services—especially education—and aligns with the President's vision of a 'Bagong Pilipinas.'
Of the proposed budget, the largest portion goes to Maintenance and Other Operating Expenses (MOOE) at ₱2.639 trillion, followed by Personnel Services at ₱1.908 trillion, and Capital Outlays at ₱1.296 trillion. Financial expenses are pegged at ₱950 billion.
National Government Agencies will receive ₱4.305 trillion (63.4%), Local Government Units ₱1.35 trillion, and Government-Owned or -Controlled Corporations ₱188.3 billion.
The DBM noted that it had to reduce agency requests amounting to over ₱10 trillion due to limited fiscal space and the government's fiscal consolidation efforts.
The 2026 NEP will be submitted to Congress within 30 days of the start of the regular session.

AFP updates crisis plan for OFWs in Middle East
The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) is ramping up its crisis preparedness to ensure the swift evacuation of Filipinos in the Middle East, following the death of a Filipina caregiver caught in the recent Iranian missile attack on Israel. AFP Chief General Romeo Brawner Jr. said the military has activated its contingency protocols and is closely coordinating with other government agencies in case a mass evacuation becomes necessary. 'Meron po tayong mga contingency plan. Ang tawag po natin dito ay non-combatant evacuation operation,' Brawner said. The Philippine Embassy in Tel Aviv confirmed the death of Leah Mosquera from Negros Occidental due to the injuries she suffered after an Iranian missile hit her apartment. Brawner emphasized that the AFP is prepared to deploy its air and naval assets, including C-130 planes and military vessels, should the government decide to repatriate Filipinos in harm's way. He also directed AFP units to update existing evacuation plans to reflect the current security landscape, which has become increasingly volatile. 'Matagal na po nating ginagawa ito. OFWs in Dubai to benefit from one-stop Serbisyo Caravan in August; offers services from 10 gov't agencies
OFWs in Dubai will have direct access to a wide range of Philippine government services during a one-day service caravan on August 3 at the Exhibition Hall 8 of Dubai World Trade Center. Led by the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) through the Migrant Workers Office (MWO) – Dubai, the Bagong Bayani ng Mundo – Serbisyo Caravan will bring together services from 10 Philippine government agencies, including assistance on consular, legal, financial, and health matters, making it a convenient one-stop venue for Filipinos in the UAE. 'The Caravan serves as a one-stop shop campaign to reintroduce participating government agencies' various programs and services, designed as a comprehensive outreach program to provide easy access to in-demand government services, deliver information sessions, and offer support channels to OFWs and their families,' MWO-Dubai said in an advisory. No pre-registration is required for the main event, which will run from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM. However, a special PhilHealth service session will be held ahead of the main event, from July 28 to 30, 2025, at MWO Dubai (7:30 AM to 4:30 PM). This will require pre-registration, with further details to be announced.
