UP to provide 20% reservation to ex-Agniveers in police and fire services

The decision was taken at a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Uttar Pradesh Finance Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna on Tuesday said the move aimed to provide meaningful post-service opportunities to Agniveers, who have completed their four-year term under the Agnipath scheme."This is a significant decision. The reservation will be applicable across categories - General, SC, ST and OBC. If an ex-Agniveer belongs to the SC category, the reservation will apply within SC, if OBC, then within OBC," he explained.Special age relaxation of up to three years will also be provided to former Agniveers applying for these posts, he added.There are four categories - police constable, PAC constable, mounted police and fireman - for which recruitment will be done. The first batch of recruits under this system will come out in 2026, Khanna said.advertisement"Several states and central forces have already taken the initiative to provide reservations to Agniveers. States like Haryana and Odisha have offered 10 per cent reservation to former Agniveers. BJP pushed Himachal into financial crisis during its tenure: Sukhu
Chief minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu once again lashed out at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) while blaming the saffron party's predecessor government for pushing the state in financial crisis. Sukhu was addressing a public meeting at Daulatpur Chowk in Una district on Saturday. Taking jibe at the BJP, Sukhu said, 'During five years of its regime, the BJP kept on boasting about the 'double engine sarkar', but could not significantly contribute to the development of the state and raised loans from the Centre, thus pushing the state in financial crisis'. He also declared that the necessary funds will be released to complete the remaining construction work of the new building of Gagret Hospital. The Chief Minister informed the public that the survey work for the Hoshiarpur-Nadaun four-lane road project has been completed and the construction work will commence shortly. He further assured that the Shivbari Fair will be granted district-level status. In addition, the vacant posts of doctors at Daulatpur Chowk and Gagret Primary Health Centres will be filled soon to improve healthcare services in the region. The Chief Minister also announced the installation of tube wells in water-scarce areas of the Gagret Assembly Constituency to address the issue of drinking water shortage. He also mentioned that there were some concerns regarding the establishment of a Bulk Drug Park in Haroli. However, the construction of the park is now set to begin soon. Criticizing the previous government's education policies, the Chief Minister said that Himachal Pradesh, once ranked among the top states in quality education, has dropped down to 21st position due to 'flawed policies' of the previous BJP government. 'The present government has decided to merge such schools to ensure qualitative education and a better future for students,' said the chief minister. He added that Una district has become the first solar-powered district in the state. Solar power projects of 32 MW in Pekhubela, 5 MW in Bhanjal, and 10 MW in Aghlaur have been completed in record time. Additionally, projects with a combined capacity of 163 MW are under construction, involving an investment of ₹500 crore. 'In the future, Una will not only meet its electricity demands but also supply power to other districts. Moreover, an ultra-modern Bulk Drug Park is coming up in Haroli, which will create job opportunities and significantly strengthen Una's industrial presence,' added Sukhu. Deputy CM Mukesh Agnihotri, in his address, said that ₹170 crore has been invested solely in water supply schemes in the Gagret Assembly Constituency. 'This will offer a permanent solution to drinking water and irrigation problems,' said Agnihotri.

Bandar port will start ops from July 2026
Vijayawada: Minister for Mines & Geology Kollu Ravindra on Saturday said that Bandar port would start functioning from July 2026. He said the port would increase employment opportunities for local youth. Participating in the Machilipatnam Beach Festival on Saturday, the minister said that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan had been taking steps to create employment opportunities for youth and accelerate economic growth in State. The minister said that the Masula Beach Festival was organised from 2014, but later the YSRCP government neglected the festival. The Minister said that a detailed project report (DPR) had been prepared for the development of tourism in Machilipatnam under the Centre's Swadeshi Darshan scheme. Akhanda Godavari project bhumi puja scheduled for June 19 postponed, says Minister
The bhumi puja for the Akhanda Godavari project scheduled to be performed on June 19 has been cancelled, Minister for Culture, Tourism and Cinematography Kandula Durgesh said on Saturday. Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan would perform the bhumi puja for the Akhanda Godavari project and permanent buildings of the Andhra Pradesh State Forest Academy in Diwaancheruvu Reserve Forest, and inaugurate a Sub-Regional Science Centre in Rajamahendravaram by the June-end, said Mr. Durgesh. Reviewing the arrangements being made for these programmes, Mr. Durgesh said the Centre had sanctioned ₹97 crore for the Akhanda Godavari project under the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI). As part of the project, Havelock Bridge would be renovated with various tourist attractions. The A.P. State Forest Academy is now being run from the Regional Forest Research Centre in Rajamahendravaram. Recently, the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change approved the diversion of six acres of reserve forest land for the construction of the Forest Academy buildings. The construction of the Sub-Regional Science Centre has been completed at Bommuru, on the outskirts of Rajamahendravaram, with ₹15.2 crore aid offered by the Ministry of Culture. East Godavari District Collector P. Prasanthi, MLAs B. Balarama Krishna, Gorantla Butchaiah Chowdari, SP D. Narasimha Kishore and other officials were present in the meeting.
