Regragui Backs Aznou to Seize Bayern Club World Cup Chance

Morocco World7 days ago

Morocco head coach Walid Regragui supports Adam Aznou as the young left-back looks to secure a place in Bayern Munich's squad for the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup.
The 18-year-old left-back was left out of Morocco's squad for the June friendlies against Tunisia and Benin, but Regragui confirmed the decision was deliberate and supportive.
'We received calls from several clubs about releasing players, and we insisted on their presence,' said Regragui.
'But in Aznou's case, I allowed him to stay with Bayern. It's a major chance for him to earn his place at the Club World Cup. I know his quality – and this serves the national team in the long run.'
Aznou, who made 13 appearances for Real Valladolid during a loan spell last season, has been under close observation by Bayern's coaching staff, especially with Alphonso Davies and Hiroki Ito both out injured.
German outlet Sport Bild reports that Aznou is being considered for the left-back role in the tournament, which begins on June 15 in the United States.
Despite Valladolid's relegation, Aznou impressed during his time in La Liga. The teenager is under contract with Bayern until 2027.
Regragui added that Aznou's absence from the June camp also allows Morocco to assess new talent in the squad.
'This camp is a chance to look at other players. Aznou needs to push for his future – and that will benefit Morocco when he returns stronger.'
Morocco face Tunisia on 6 June and Benin on 9 June, with both matches set to take place at Stade de Fès, marking the national team's first return to the venue in 16 years. Tags: adam aznouMorocco national teamWalid Regragui

Moroccan Trio Shortlisted for Golden Boy 2025

The race for the 2025 Golden Boy award is well underway, and three young Moroccan players have made the first cut in the 100-man shortlist. Eliesse Ben Seghir and Chemsdine Talbi, both full Morocco internationals, are joined by Franco-Moroccan prospect Ayyoub Bouaddi as nominees for the prestigious award, which recognizes the best under-21 player in Europe each year. Ben Seghir, 20, enjoyed a solid season with AS Monaco, scoring nine goals and providing four assists. Talbi, also 20, has been a standout performer for Club Brugge in Belgium. With seven goals and four assists to his name, including key contributions in the Champions League, he's now attracting interest from bigger clubs across the continent, notably German side RB Leipzig. Bouaddi is the youngest of the Moroccan trio. The 17-year-old midfielder has already broken into the first team at Lille and drew widespread attention after running the show in a 1-0 win over Real Madrid in the Champions League group stage. He hasn't committed to Morocco or France at the international level just yet. While the Moroccan players are turning heads, it's Barcelona centre-back Pau Cubarsí who currently leads the pack. The 18-year-old has had a breakout season, making 56 appearances across all competitions and helping Barça to a domestic treble under Hansi Flick. His calmness on the ball and defensive maturity have earned him a rating of 95.4 in the Football Benchmark index, putting him at the top of the official rankings. Lamine Yamal, last year's winner, sits at number one on the list with a score of 97.7, but since no player can win the award twice, his name is only there for reference. Paris Saint-Germain's Désiré Doué ranks third and is another strong candidate after a superb season, after winning the Ligue 1, the Coupe de France, and the UEFA Champions League. The shortlist was published this week by Tuttosport , the Italian outlet that created the Golden Boy award back in 2003. The final winner will be announced in December. How Much Would Yamal Earn After New Record-Breaking Deal?

Barcelona have tied Lamine Yamal to a new long-term contract that runs until 2031, locking in one of the brightest young stars in world football. The 17-year-old winger has been a standout this season, scoring 18 goals and providing 21 assists as Barça won both La Liga and the Copa del Rey under Hansi Flick. Now, the club have moved quickly to reward his performances. According to The Athletic , the new deal includes a base salary of around €10 million per year and a €25 million signing bonus. If Yamal hits all his performance targets, his total earnings could reach €40 million per year before tax. That would make him the highest-paid player at the club, ahead of veterans like Robert Lewandowski and Frenkie de Jong. The contract also includes a clause for a salary review in two years, allowing the club and the player to revisit the terms based on performance and progression. Yamal's contract was finalized just before the start of his summer break. His agent, Jorge Mendes, flew in twice over the past few weeks to wrap things up quickly, allowing the teenager to head into the off-season without transfer rumours hanging over him. Despite his rapid rise, Yamal has remained calm under pressure. Ahead of the Champions League semi-final against Inter, he said, 'Fear while playing? I left all my fears in the park of my neighbourhood, back in Mataró.' Barcelona sporting director Deco described the new deal as the club's best move of the summer. 'He's a special player,' he told local radio. 'He deserves special treatment.' Yamal's camp didn't explicitly demand he become the top earner, but the message was clear. After a season like this, he has become one of the biggest difference-makers in the squad. The deal was structured to fit within La Liga's financial regulations, and Yamal's status as a La Masia graduate made registration smoother. Tags: FC Barcelonalaligalamine yamal

PSG and Al Ahli Book Spots at 2029 Club World Cup

PSG have secured their place at the 2029 FIFA Club World Cup after hammering Inter Milan 5-0 in the Champions League final in Munich. It's the club's first European title and a long-awaited moment for the French giants. PSG are now the second French side to win the trophy, joining Marseille who lifted it back in 1993. Under Luis Enrique, the Parisians looked unstoppable and now head into the new Club World Cup format as serious contenders. The win puts PSG on 43 points in UEFA's qualification ranking for the 2029 tournament. Inter still lead with 48, while Arsenal and Barcelona sit just behind with 41 each. Champions League winners from the next three seasons will also qualify directly. Al Ahli are the first Asian club to confirm their spot, after winning the revamped AFC Champions League Elite. In North America, Cruz Azul and Vancouver Whitecaps will battle it out for the CONCACAF slot. Before 2029, PSG will also take part in the 2025 Club World Cup in the United States. They're in a group with Atlético Madrid, Botafogo and Seattle Sounders, with matches on June 15, 20 and 23. Achraf Hakimi was one of the stars of the night. The Moroccan full-back scored the opener and ended the Champions League season with four goals and five assists. That's nine goal contributions – the most ever by a defender in a single campaign, matching Ian Harte's record from 2000. Tags: Al-Ahlichampions leaguePSG
