A man is dead, and two others were injured after a shooting on I-70 in Frederick County on Saturday evening, according to Maryland State Police. Around 11:55 p.m. on June 14, troopers responded to the 600 block of Lakeview Drive in Mount Airy for a report of a shooting on eastbound I-70, just before Maryland Route 27. When they arrived, they found a 2018 GMC Sierra pickup truck at the scene. Eduardo Alexander Alvarado Urrea, 20, of Silver Spring, and five others had been inside the pickup truck at the time of the shooting. Urrea was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, whose identity is not being released at this time, was taken to a trauma center with gunshot injuries. One passenger was evaluated at the scene but declined medical treatment. The three other individuals reported no injuries. A preliminary investigation revealed that the victims were struck by gunfire from another vehicle while traveling east on I-70, not long after leaving an event at the Frederick Fairgrounds. Police are asking anyone with dashcam footage on eastbound I-70 in Frederick County between 11:30 p.m. and midnight to contact the Frederick Barrack at 301-600-4150. Recent road-rage shootings in Maryland On June 6, a Baltimore County man was arrested on drug and gun charges after an alleged road-rage incident in Baltimore County. That incident happened on I-695. The suspect, 26-year-old Travis Thomas, is accused of pointing a firearm at a driver and passenger during a road-rage interaction on the outer loop of I-695 before I-95 on June 4. The victim and passenger were not harmed in the incident. After identifying Thomas as the suspect, investigators located Thomas at his job in Harford County and executed search warrants. During the search, they found a loaded gun and suspected cocaine packaged for distribution. A second search warrant at Thomas' home in Dundalk led to the recovery of two more guns and suspected cocaine. Thomas faces two counts of felony assault, misdemeanor assault, and using a firearm during a felony. He is also charged with having a loaded handgun in his vehicle and possessing a firearm during a drug trafficking crime in Harford County. In January, a man was charged after an early morning road-rage shooting in Frederick County. The caller told police they were being followed and shot at by the driver of a gray Volkswagen. The victims of the shooting, who were driving a red GMC Yukon, were not identified but are safe and did not sustain injuries. In February, two men were arrested in separate road-rage incidents in Baltimore and Prince George's Counties.

Maryland State Police urge public to prioritize online safety amid recent child exploitation cases

Maryland State Police are urging the public to prioritize online safety amid recent child exploitation cases. The agency said that the Maryland Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force was one of 61 task forces nationwide to participate in an initiative combating online child exploitation. The task force launched investigations resulting in 41 arrests and 17 child victims rescued from ongoing abuse, according to MSP. In a statement, the agency encouraged parents to keep an eye on their children's digital activities. "Parents are encouraged to monitor their children's use of all digital devices, and senior citizens are urged to use the internet with caution, especially when asked to furnish personal information. Digital devices include laptops, tablets, desktop computers, and 'smart' phones," MSP said. Keeping children safe online MSP recommends that guardians remain informed about who their children are communicating with online. They also suggest open and ongoing conversations about the types of content they encounter, and reminding children to avoid communication with strangers. It's also recommended that parents maintain control of apps downloaded on their children's devices and remain aware of what information children are sharing. Recent child exploitation cases in Maryland Dazhon Darien, 32, former athletic director at Pikesville High School in Baltimore County, was indicted on federal child pornography and exploitation charges in February. Prosecutors said he allegedly coerced a minor to engage in sexually explicit conduct to produce and transmit abuse material. Court documents allege Darien used CashApp to pay a minor to send videos of himself between December 2023 and March 2024. In another investigation through Operation Restore Justice, two Maryland men were arrested on sex abuse charges. Operation Restore Justice was a nationwide initiative put on by the U.S. Attorney General's Office and 55 different FBI field offices. According to the FBI Baltimore, there were 72 cases opened in the 2024 fiscal year, which led to 11 arrests and 58 children being located and identified.

Sicko, 40, allegedly sported ski mask during twisted encounters with teen he raped, blackmailed for years

A depraved Oregon man allegedly raped a teenage girl he met online — after coercing the youngster into sending explicit photos he used to blackmail her into a four-year string of disturbing trysts, cops said. Seth Michael Winkelhake, 40, was busted Tuesday, months after a tip exposed years of sexual abuse he inflicted on a 13-year-old girl, according to the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office. The young girl allegedly told police she met the sicko — who called himself Jeff — online in 2018 and started chatting after he lied about his age. But the chats took a twisted turn when she sent the graphic images, which the accused predator used to manipulate her into maintaining contact, cops said. Seth Michael Winkelhake, 40, was arrested Tuesday and charged with first-degree rape and other sexual offenses. Clackamas County Sheriffâs Office The Hillsboro man convinced the girl to meet in person when she turned 16 — and showed up to the perverse rendezvous in Oak Grove with his face concealed with a ski mask or cloth. Deputies said Winkelhake blindfolded the victim before putting her in his car and driving to local parks where he carried out the sick acts — despite her efforts to stop them — from 2021 to 2024. Officials now believe there may be more victims. The alleged perv, who volunteered with local education organizations in the Portland area, is suspected of using Facebook, Instagram and AntiLand, an anonymous chat room, to hunt for young girls online. Cops said he often used fake names like Jeff, Don Jon and Marc to bait his victims, and had a 2018 Nissan Frontier and a 2002 Volkswagen Golf registered in his name. Officials now believe there may be more victims and have made public the cars registered to the accused predator. Clackamas County Sheriffâs Office Winkelhake was arraigned Wednesday on 23 felony and misdemeanor charges, including first-degree rape, third-degree sexual abuse, first-degree encouraging child sex abuse and luring a minor. He is being held without bail at Clackamas County Jail in Oregon City. Anyone with information can call the sheriff's office tip line at 503-723-4949 or submit an online form.
