Days of Our Lives Recap: Chanel Asks Johnny if He Shot EJ

On today's Days of Our Lives recap:
Stephanie's Apartment: Stephanie awakens to find Alex reading her manuscript. He says her writing is steamy and he just can't put it down. Stephanie pokes fun saying she knows erotica is up his alley. Alex admits it did hold his attention but also thinks she is just a talented writer. He thinks the book is a best seller waiting to happen and thinks Titan should publish it. Stephanie says no way as she doesn't want her PR name associated with a tawdry romance novel. Alex suggests she write under a pseudonym. She is keen on the suggestion and suggests Harper. They chat a bit more before Alex makes note of certain hot scenes and they decide to act one out.
Alex learns about some urgent business he needed done when out of town. He mentions Xander wants to put in a bid to buy University Hospital to counter EJ's. Stephanie wonders if there will be a bidding war but Alex says Kayla turned him down. He hopes Titan/DiMera will be allowed to save the day.
Brady Pub: Outside, Leo is pushing Javi to quit his job. Javi isn't so sure as he doesn't want to let Gabi down. He also had no clue what he wants to do next. Leo encourages him to engage in a little quiet quitting by doing the bare minimum at work.
Inside, EJ addresses his son as 'John Roman' and says he's glad they can talk. Johnny quickly says he can't stand to be around him and tries to leave. EJ begs him not to go. Johnny says he has nothing to say to him. EJ says he forgives his son, which thoroughly confuses him. EJ thinks Johnny knows exactly what he's talking about and says he will protect his son with his life. Johnny realizes his father remembers the night of the shooting.
EJ understands why Johny pulled a gun on him and suspects it's the same reason he pulled out of the adoption. Johnny confirms his father's suspicions and EJ apologizes. He says his son is a wonderful person who deserves happiness and a family. Johnny agrees but also says he isn't sorry for anything that happened the night of the shooting. EJ is thrown and says it seems his son's only regret is that he lived. Johnny says he's right. EJ can't believe his son hates him so much. Johnny looks at his father and feels only disgust and hatred.
EJ tells Johnny to be careful as even he has his limits. Johnny knew his father being a changed man wouldn't last very long. EJ says it's the truth, but Johnny thinks he is play acting. He thinks the real EJ exists right beneath the surface. Johnny wants his father out of his life, for good. Before Johnny leaves, he tells his father Xander has been courting him for a job at DiMera to get back at him. Johnny says he has officially decided to go to work for the enemy. With that, he exits.
Horton Square: Sarah appears to be choking when Chad and Cat ask what they can do to help. Sarah indicates she isn't choking but Cat still heads off to call 911. Sarah continues to cough and wheeze as Javi and Leo approach. Javi runs over and says she is in anaphylactic shock. He asks about an epi pen, and she has one in her purse. Javi stabs the pen into her leg and Sarah begins to breathe more easily (looks like Javi might have found his passion). Xander looks around to thank Javi who has suddenly disappeared.
Chanel arrives and is filled in on what happened. She remembers Sarah is allergic to pistachios and notes the vegan version of the tasty treat is made with pistachio milk. She fears there was a mixup with the order. Chanel runs off to figure out what happened. Xander addresses Felicity and asks about her careless mistake. Cat and Chad get very defensive, and Felicity says she wasn't careless. Chanel returns and says the entire situation is her fault as she accidentally gave Sarah the vegan version and apologizes for being distracted. Sarah says all is ok and knows it was an accident. Cat clears her throat and says Xander owes her sister an apology. Before he can do so, the paramedics arrive.
Cat and Chad tell Felicity nothing was her fault. She says she always tries to do her best, and Cat gives her a huge pep talk full of all her recent accomplishments. Chad backs her up and says Felicity is amazing. Chanel returns saying Sarah and Xander left in the ambulance. She apologizes to Felicity and says nothing was her fault. Chanel decides to close the bakery for a few hours and gives Felicity the rest of the day off. With that, they head off to grab Felicity's stuff. Afterwards, Cat and Chad get all kinds of cute about their upcoming date.
Chanel returns to the square and sits by herself, devastated by her mistake. Johnny walks up and asks what's going on and Chanel is in tears saying she is not ok. Johnny goes to his beloved and takes her in his arms.
Random Park: Leo chases down Javi and says how amazing he was with Sarah. Javi tries to blow it off, but Leo isn't having it, saying he is a hero. He doesn't understand why he made such a quick exit. Leo is quite confused when Javi says he didn't want all the attention. Javi is evasive but finally says he has some medical training as he was supposed to be a firefighter/EMT. He went through the entire program and quit. Leo asks what happened, but Javi asks to table the conversation for now and he backs down.
Leo and Javi enjoy sweet treats. Leo asks about what it was like to be a firefighter/EMT, specifically if he ever posed for a calendar or if he still has the uniform. Javi asks how Leo can ask so many ridiculous questions. They move along to be super adorable about their fire for each other.
University Hospital – Sarah's Room: Xander walks in and says he updated Maggie on Sarah's condition. She's headed over for a visit as soon as she puts Victoria to bed. Sarah is very disappointed their small vacation ( I need her to stop saying mini-moon) but Xander says the only important thing is that she is ok. He is furious with himself for forgetting her allergy to pistachios. Sarah says they should just be grateful Javi showed up when he did.
Brady Pub: Outside, Cat, Felicity and Chad walk by when EJ emerges. He asks his brother if they can have a word in private. Cat and Felicity say their goodbyes and make their exit. EJ asks Chad if he's sure he's not smitten with Ms. Greene. Chad ignores his brother's comments and asks what's up. EJ says he needs help making a pitch to buy University Hospital. Chad asks for more information and EJ mentions how good they have been to him and wants to help them keep their doors open. Unfortunately, Kayla is opposing his bid. He wants Chad to go before the hospital board and turn on his charm.
Endings
Javi tells Leo about once saving a cat from a tree. He appreciates Leo's interest in his former job but he is about to be late for his current one. With that, he exits. Leo gets out his phone and does a little digging about Javi's former life.
Xander thinks they should send Javi a gift, like a fruit basket. Xander thinks better of it as it could be considered homophobic. Sarah giggles and says he's being ridiculous. Xander says he doesn't want to make another mistake since he already screwed up with Felicity. They both agree they couldn't live without one another before they kiss (Oh Lawd, when the truth comes out…).
Alex says he has been left in charge of Titan while Xander and Sarah are away. He would gain huge points with the boss if he could help pull off this deal with the hospital. Stephanie says he is doing all he can and thinks they should take a little time to reenact pg. 246 from her book. Alex likes the way Stephanie thinks.
Chad agrees to help with the board. That being said, they are going to need to move quickly. Chad says he just got word Xander has put in a competing bid.
Johnny tells Chanel what happened with Sarah was an accident. She gets it but feels so guilty for making such a stupid mistake at her place of business. Johnny does his best to be supportive which eventually brings a smile to his wife's face. Chanel says being in his arms felt right and she has missed him. She says she's done some reflecting and realizes Johnny made the right decision. Chanel thinks she might be ready for him to come back home. That being said, she has a question for Johnny. Did you shoot your father?

Days of Our Lives Recap: John Black's Funeral Concludes

Days of Our Lives Recap: John Black's Funeral Concludes originally appeared on Daytime Confidential. On today's Days of Our Lives recap: Part Three: John's Funeral: Eric walks back to the podium and says he maintained a strong connection to John even after he discovered they weren't father, and son can be somewhat attributed to their devotion to God. He says John was a mentor for all the kids. Presiding over John's service is both the hardest thing he's ever had to do and one of the great privileges of his life. With that, he kisses his family. Hospital: Bo is beside himself because he's not at John's services. Hope says the funeral has already started but Bo says he must be there. Hope thinks John wouldn't want him to leave before he's completely healed. If something happens to him, John's sacrifice is all for nought. John's Funeral: Eric retakes the podium and says his twin sister wanted to be there but is in attendance virtually. She sent a message for him to read. She writes how she always thought John ruined her life and family. However, she now knows how much she saved them. She thinks John was actually one of the best things that ever happened to her. Sami knows she was a bit of a nightmare but thanks John for loving her mother, her family and her. She apologizes for all the times she let her pride, and her ego get in the way of thanking him for all he meant to her. Sami says she loves John and already misses him. Carrie hugs Eric and takes the podium. She talks about how John and Marlena helped blend their family and made each child feel loved and cherished. John was like a father to her being loving and attentive no matter how busy he was. She references John and Marlena's wedding in 1999 and how they had each child present a different flower to represent how they were all a part of a larger garden. They want to recreate that ritual today. Hospital: Bo promises he wouldn't risk their future by leaving the hospital if he wasn't certain he could do it. He must be there for John just like he has always been there for them. Hope agrees to get the car but only if he promises to let her know if he feels the least bit off. Bo hugs his fancy face and thanks her. John's Funeral: Carrie notes Sami has given Paul permission to act in place of her in her absence. With that, all the 'children' rise and move towards the front. Flashback: John and Marlena's 1999 wedding and the ceremony Carrie just referenced. Belle is their daisy who brightens them up with their smile. Brady is their sunflower who is bold and adventurous. Sami/Paul is their rose who has a huge generous heart with all the natural beauty nature has to offer. Eric is their snapdragon who keeps all the other flowers on their toes. Lastly, Carrie is their orchid who needs loving attention and deserves it. They can't claim her genetically but are better people for having her in their lives. John's Funeral: As each of John and Marlena's children (genetic or otherwise) are announced in the flashback, they rise and place their respective flowers by John's urn and pictures. They return to their seats and surround Marlena in love and support. Brady takes the podium and mentions how his grandfather, Timothy Robicheaux, was unable to be in attendance because of his recent hip surgery. He tells the story of how John and his father connected a few years ago. Brady mentions how much alike his father and grandfather were. That being said, there is an essential John Black attribute not connected to Timothy he must mention, the eyebrow. The congregation giggles at the welcomed light-hearted moment. Brady says the use of John Black's eyebrow was perhaps his single greatest asset. Brady outlines all the different ways his father's eyebrows conveyed emotion (Brady calling Belle Tink will always get me). Brady brings the story full circle saying John finding his father helped bring some stability to his life story. Brady notes, no matter how much his father debated his own identity, he always knew he was the world's greatest dad. It's Marlena's turn to take the podium. Brady squeezes her hand before she heads to the front. Marlena's voice catches immediately when she says she didn't even plan to speak today. She says she feels so fortunate to have expressed how she feels to her beloved before his passing. She decides to share a poem with them about love which meant so much to them. After she recites it, she takes a moment to look at the portrait of John and moves toward it. She says they had many obstacles, but their love brought them through. Marlena believes their love will bring the through this, as well. With that, she looks at her beloved John and says, 'good night, my love.' Eric retakes the podium to lead the congregation in prayer. Just then, Shawn Douglas stands in shock as his father and mother walk in. Hope hugs Marlena and SHE DOESN'T EVEN TOUCH HER (their history precedes them). Bo apologizes for the interruption and asks if he is too late to say a few words. Marlena says she would love for him to do that very thing. Bo takes the podium and remembers John's arrival in Salem. Bo notes he was trying to take John out whilst John ended up saving his life. He says John's compassion is his legacy as he constantly did everything, he could to support him. Bo says John gave him the precious gift of time. John may no longer be with them but the gifts he gave remain… and that's a fact. Bo moves towards John's portrait and tells his brother to rest in peace. Eric returns to the podium and thanks everyone for joining them today. He asks them all to join in for the upcoming celebration at the Brady Pub. Marlena tells Eric what a beautiful job he did and how proud John would have been. Kayla hugs Bo and chastises him for leaving the hospital so soon. Bo says he had to be there to pay tribute to John. Chanel tells Johnny how distressed he looked when Kayla talked about John's legacy living through them. He says he thinks his recent behavior would be disappointing to his grandpa. Chanel supports her beloved saying his recent changes give him a clean slate. Kate approaches John's portrait and says what a special place John will always hold in her heart. Just then, Roman walks up and hugs her. Marlena walks over to a bouquet of flowers and flashes back to a time John gave her lilacs, her favorite flower. She wonders who sent them… Brady asks his father to give his love to his mother (an Isabella mention!). Belle mentions the conversation she had with Shawn Douglas days prior when he said two miracles seemed too much to hope for (that line just killed me). Shawn D says how sorry he is and they embrace. Hope tells Bo she and John had a special bond because of Stefano (that would be that when she was Princess Gina, she and John had sex on a submarine – look it up). She takes a picture of John and says she is going to miss everything about him. Hope implores the angels to take good care of her special friend and Bo embraces her. Kayla tells Marlena she asked the hospital about the gold coin in John's hands, but they say it completely disappeared. Marlena says not to worry about it as the coin was meant to be a sign of hope for John's recovery… and now that hope is gone. Keep checking back for the latest Days of Our Lives recaps! Who was Stockton Rush? OceanGate CEO focus of Titan implosion documentary

Who was Stockton Rush? OceanGate CEO focus of Titan implosion documentary Show Caption Hide Caption Newly released footage captures sound of Titan submersible imploding Newly released video appeared to capture the sound of the Titan submersible imploding on its way to visit the Titanic wreck in June 2023. Netflix released "Titan: The OceanGate Disaster" on June 11, a week before the two-year anniversary of the 2023 implosion that killed five people on a voyage to view the wreckage of the Titanic. The documentary focuses on the role of OceanGate CEO Stockon Rush and his role as CEO of OceanGate "his quest to become the next billionaire innovator," according to the documentary's synopsis. "'Titan: The OceanGate Submersible Disaster' makes a belabored point that OceanGate's failings leading to the implosion stemmed from Rush's leadership," Eric Francisco of Esquire wrote. "His short temper and arrogance permeated in all his efforts to build a business around deep-sea commercial tourism." There were five people aboard the submersible on June 18, 2023 and were killed in the implosion: Rush, British billionaire Hamish Harding, French maritime and Titanic expert Paul-Henri Nargeolet, and a father and son from one of Pakistan's most prominent families, Shahzada Dawood and Suleman Dawood. A series of hearings were held in 2024 as part of the investigation, and a lawsuit has been filed by the family of Nargeolet, claiming all five passengers probably experienced "terror and anguish" in their final moments. The hearings revealed one of the final messages sent from the crew before it was crushed by the pressure of the ocean: "All good here." Here's what you need to know about Stockton Rush. Who was Stockton Rush? Rush, 61, was a member of a prominent family in San Francisco and a descendant of two signers of the Declaration of Independence, SF Gate reported at the time of the implosion. The outlet reported that he was working as an aerospace engineer for McDonnell Douglas when he married his wife Wendy in 1986. Rush co-founded the company in 2009 and oversaw OceanGate's financial and engineering strategies, company's website said before being taken down in the wake of the implosion, USA TODAY previously reported. Titan danger: Titanic sub took on extreme danger, while 'breaking the rules' "We have heard the baseless cries of 'you are going to kill someone' way too often," Rush wrote in 2018 – according to The Conversation – after being told he was putting lives at risk using his experimental submersible. "I take this as a serious personal insult." In an interview with CBS News Unsung Science, he talked about his dreams of being an explorer − "I wanted to be sort of the Captain Kirk" − and fears about going underwater. "What I worry about most are things that will stop me from being able to get to the surface," he said. Still, he insisted on the safety of submersibles and the value of taking risks. "I mean, if you just want to be safe, don't get out of bed," he said. What happened to Titan? The submersible imploded about 1 hour and 45 minutes after its trip began, resulting in the deaths of its five passengers. Two weeks after the incident, OceanGate said on its website it had suspended "all exploration and commercial operations." Its headquarters in Everett, Washington, were shuttered. Its business license expired on June 7, 2024, according to Washington Department of Revenue records. The nonprofit research wing of the company, called OceanGate Foundation, was launched in 2010 but also closed in 2023, according to department records. OceanGate Inc. also operated a subsidiary, OceanGate Expeditions, out of the same office. According to Washington records, it closed on March 31, 2021. The U.S. Coast Guard continues to investigate what caused the implosion. Contributing: Elizabeth Weise, Isabella Butera, Phaedra Tepham – USA TODAY

The New OceanGate Documentary Dives Into the Depths of the Titan Submersible Tragedy

Two years ago, OceanGate's Titan submersible imploded in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Newfoundland. Now, amid ongoing investigations by the U.S. Coast Guard, Netflix has a new documentary that proposes—citing sound evidence and on-camera interviews with sources that were formerly close to OceanGate—just what went wrong on the ill-fated journey to the site of another prolific sea disaster, RMS Titanic. Much of it has to do with OceanGate's eccentric late CEO, Stockton Rush, one of the five victims of the 2023 incident. On June 11, Netflix released the documentary Titan: The OceanGate Submersible Disaster, which documents the circumstances behind the June 2023 incident that spawned countless memes and endless speculation. While the movie dives deep (ahem) into the specifics of the Titan's implosion, including pointing out the submersible's carbon fiber construction that was vulnerable to deep-sea water pressure, the movie points a finger at Rush, who is described by subjects in the movie as "arrogant" with a major "temper." "I worked for somebody that is probably borderline clinical psychopath. Definitely a narcissist," said Tony Nissen, a former engineering director at OceanGate in the movie. "How do you manage a person like that who owns the company?" In the movie, Stockton Rush is described as having a "privileged background" originating from generational wealth; his family tree includes two signers of the Declaration of Independence. Subjects in the film recall Rush hoping to fashion himself as a billionaire explorer like Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk, with his eyes set on Earth's oceans instead of Mars. "Big swinging dicks" was a term Rush liked to say out loud and often, and being a "big swinging dick" himself was an explicit goal. (Rush was not a billionaire, but he had money to burn nonetheless.) Joseph Assi, a videographer hired by Rush to capture OceanGate's expeditions, says that one of Rush's personal philosophies was that "accessibility is ownership." As Assi says in the documentary: "If there's a small island in the middle of the ocean, and you're the only one you can access it, it doesn't matter who owns it, you have ownership over it because you have the accessibility to get to it. And he truly believed in that." Titan: The OceanGate Submersible Disaster makes a belabored point that OceanGate's failings leading to the implosion stemmed from Rush's leadership. His short temper and arrogance permeated in all his efforts to build a business around deep-sea commercial tourism. This included trying to skip critical testing conducted by third parties—which is standard practice in the industry—and cutting costs where possible, such as in the aforementioned use of carbon fiber materials which cannot sustain oceanic pressure. Rush also verbally stated he could and would "buy a congressman," which alarmed many OceanGate employees. Rob McCallum, a consultant, recalls in the documentary: "Stockton said that he decided that he saw no need for classification, for third-party oversight. I stood up and said, 'I'm sorry I can't be part of this conversation, nor can I be associated with OceanGate or this vehicle in any way.' And I left. He had every contact in the submersible industry telling him not to do this. But once you start down the path of doing it entirely yourself, and you realize you've taken the wrong turn right back at the beginning... You have to admit you were wrong. That's a big pill to swallow." Rush is also described as having a callous attitude towards employees, refusing to take accountability for his failures. For example: In 2016, Rush and OceanGate hosted an expedition to the SS Andrea Doria. The trip nearly ended in disaster after Rush brought their sub into a dangerous spot; David Lochridge, OceanGate's Director of Marine Ops and a more experienced pilot, took over controls and got everyone aboard safely to the surface. Though Rush thanked Lochridge, the CEO turned cold towards him, later excluding him from important communications. Rush eventually fired Lochridge, in a tense meeting heard in the movie via audio recording. Later, Rush suggested promoting another OceanGate employee, Bonnie Carl, to take over Lochridge as the next lead pilot. But Carl was an accountant who headed the HR department, and had no experience as a submersible pilot. Titan: The OceanGate Submersible Disaster is a cut above typical straight-from-the-headlines Netflix documentaries, as a level-headed if straightforward deep dive (again, ahem) about a disaster that dominated the news cycle two summers ago. But while the ins and outs of a deadly trip into the sea have morbid appeal, it's the movie's interrogation of one man's toxic hubris that makes Titan a worthy watch.
