Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train: casting of first rail-level slab complete at Boisar station

Indian Express17-06-2025
Casting work for the first rail-level slab of the upcoming Boisar station under the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train project was fully completed on Tuesday. The 40-metre by 37-metre slab was built using over 1,070 cubic metres of concrete and will act as the track-laying base for bullet trains.
Boisar station, which is one of the main stops on the high-speed rail corridor, will have a total of nine such slabs at the rail level. Upon completion, the two-level station – with a concourse and a rail level – will be 425 metres long. The station will have a total built-up area of around 17,000 square metres, including 6,000 square metres at the concourse level.
According to officials at the National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL), the work on Boisar station will include the use of approximately 8,000 metric tonnes of steel and 42,000 cubic metres of concrete.
Once commissioned, the station is likely to boost connectivity to important areas like the proposed Vadhavan Port (23 km away), Boisar and Tarapur industrial areas, Tarapur Atomic Power Station, and some tourist hotspots like Kelwa Beach, Dahanu, Bordi and Hiradpada waterfalls.
'Boisar will have a vital role to play in the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail corridor, facilitating regional connectivity and economic growth. The architectural design of the station is based on the traditional fishing nets employed by Konkani fishermen, honouring the maritime heritage of the region,' said an NHSRCL official.
Passenger facilities at the station will include paid and unpaid lounges, waiting areas, smoking areas, first aid facilities, toilets, drinking water facilities and retail outlets. Lifts and escalators will also be there to facilitate smooth movement between floors.

This was far from how our ancestors ate -- when every meal was made fresh at home, leaving no heaviness or discomfort after eating. Today, many experience what Grounded calls "post-meal syndrome" -- an unnecessary stress on the mind and gut caused by modern, compromised food. Hailing from farming families and rooted in real food traditions, they began making clean staples for their own family, then decided to extend the same to others. Combining Anil's 25 years of experience in sales and marketing with Lalitha's technological expertise, they built Grounded Foods -- a transparent brand committed to clean and safe ingredients. Operating from Bengaluru, the couple built something extraordinary without spending on advertisements or PR. Through pure word-of-mouth, over 8,000 families discovered their LiveMilled™ made-to-order approach, fresh CultureCraft™ Batters, AirMilled™ Flours, LegacyBlends™ Masalas, and WoodBorn™ Oils. Watch: ‘Unsafe capital?' Mumbai woman's viral Delhi cab story has the internet talking — here's why

A recent social media post by a Mumbai-based influencer has triggered a new wave of concern around women's safety in Delhi, particularly in app-based cabs. The influencer, who was visiting the capital for work, shared a two-part ordeal involving drivers from two popular ride-hailing platforms– Rapido and Uber , which she described as 'traumatic' and unsettling. Her experience, documented in a short video shared on Instagram, has since gained attention online, reigniting conversations around how secure the national capital truly is for women travellers. Argument over air conditioning escalates during Rapido ride According to her account, the first issue occurred soon after she landed at Delhi Airport. She booked a Rapido cab for a ride to Noida and requested the driver to switch on the air conditioner. The driver, however, allegedly refused– leading to a verbal exchange. Quoting the driver, she said: 'It will be turned on at my own choice. If you need air conditioning so badly, get another cab.' After the confrontation, she approached Rapido's help desk at the airport to report the incident. While the support team responded politely, she decided not to proceed with the ride and opted for another cab through Uber. Uber ride raises privacy concerns The next ride turned out to be even more concerning. The influencer claimed that during the Uber ride to Noida, she briefly dozed off. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Uber luxury living at Hyderabad's billionaire junction Sumadhura Group Learn More Undo When she woke up, she noticed the driver pointing his phone camera toward her. Initially, she assumed he might have been watching a video. But upon closer observation, she realised she was being filmed. Without alerting the driver, she immediately messaged her sister, sharing her live location and the vehicle details. Her sister instructed her to exit the car at the earliest. Acting calmly, she told the driver she needed to hand something to a friend and stepped out of the vehicle with her luggage. She then moved to a busier area nearby and booked another cab to reach her destination. 'Don't know when it will get better…' In the caption of the video, she expressed her frustration, calling the entire experience distressing, and said: 'It's 2 min + video, but I need to share what happens in our capital city (DELHI)! One of the most unsafe places to visit. Don't know when it will get better, but it's surely getting worse!' Platforms respond to complaints After her video gained traction, both Uber and Rapido issued public responses and requested the user to share further details. Uber India commented: 'Hi Ruchika, this is extremely concerning to hear. Uber takes rider safety very seriously, so we'd like to look into this. Please DM us your Uber account and trip details so we can further investigate.' Rapido replied: 'We apologise for the trouble caused on your recent ride. This is not the kind of service we aim to provide. Kindly share your registered mobile number and ride ID via DM so that we can assist you further.' Online reactions: 'Never let your guard down' The video has led to a wave of reactions online, particularly from women who echoed similar experiences or shared their own safety strategies while using cabs. One user wrote: 'Girls DO NOT DO NOT NEVER EVER SLEEP IN A CAB! Maut hi kyu na ajaye lekin sona mat coffee pio call kro kisi ko nahi h koi to imaginary boyfriend se baatein karo 'pretend' kyuki unfortunately it's not safe for us anywhere.' Another comment read: 'Sleeping in a cab is the last thing I would ever do in my life. At the same time, how sad it is to address a woman's safety.' A user who had lived in the NCR region added: 'I have studied, lived, and worked in Delhi NCR; whether it was 20 years ago or to date, it is the most unsafe city for women in the world.'

Sikhs seek tracks of faith, not just festival specials

AMRITSAR : Indian Railways is reportedly conducting a feasibility study to connect the five Sikh Takhts—a move that could ease travel, reduce journey time, and allow devotees to visit at their convenience to fulfil their religious aspirations, as the current connectivity makes each journey difficult and full of inconveniences. 'The Five Takhts are the seats of Sikh power, history, and spiritual authority, but there is no direct connection between them,' said Sikh politico-religious observer S. Parshotam. . He said travel from Amritsar to Patna, Bathinda to Nanded, or Anandpur Sahib to Takht Damdama Sahib is a test of endurance—detours, delays, poor waiting facilities, and multiple connecting trains. "There is no straight route and no guaranteed service", added he. Notably, Sikhs across India and abroad want to visit all five Takhts—not once in a lifetime, but when they choose. They wish to pay obeisance, fulfil religious duties, and stay rooted in the legacy of their Gurus, but the system doesn't allow it easily. Stating that the Railways currently runs special trains only during major festivals or events—such as Gurpurabs and anniversaries—but this service is neither regular, reliable, nor sufficient, railway affairs expert P.C. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Do you have a mouse? Desert Order Undo Sharma informed that a feasibility study is underway to establish city-to-city links, aimed at shortening travel time and increasing comfort. 'But plans don't carry passengers. Proposals don't reduce fatigue. It has to translate on the ground,' he said. A railways official here who didn't wish to give his name said, 'The extension of the Mumbai-Jalna Vande Bharat Express to Nanded represents a landmark achievement in improving connectivity to Takht Sri Hazur Sahib. The Delhi-Amritsar Vande Bharat Express has revolutionised connectivity to the Golden Temple and Akal Takht, providing high-speed rail service that connects the national capital with Punjab's spiritual heart. This service enables devotees from Delhi and Northern India to visit Amritsar with unprecedented comfort and efficiency.' 'What Sikhs are asking is simple. A regular rail service that links the five Takhts. Not luxury. Not tourism. Just respect for religious practice. Just a route that makes sense,' said Purshotam adding that despite an ongoing feasibility study , its report is yet to come.
