If you're anything like me, the day is not complete until I finish all of the free word games from the New York Times. Working on the daily Connections, Wordle and Strands is a whole ritual for many of us. And we can't forget about the NYT's The Mini Crossword, too!
Although the NYT is known for "The Crossword," a larger puzzle for paid subscribers, The Mini has quite the fan-following as well. This particular game resets at 10 p.m., unlike some of the others that start over at midnight.
So, if you're working on today's Mini on Friday, July 4, 2025, and need some help (I've been there), get ready to read the clues and solutions for each line. We have them separated into hints first for both "Across" and "Down" words, followed by "Across Answers" and "Down Answers," so be careful if you want to avoid spoilers as you scroll!

The Most Popular HGTV Show in Every State Revealed—and Which Series Comes Out on Top Across the U.S.

HGTV has been hot topic of conversation of late—particularly after the network sparked a flurry of speculation among viewers by canceling four shows within a week, leaving many fans fearful over the fate of their favorite series. But while 'Bargain Block,' 'Married to Real Estate,' 'Farmhouse Fixer,' and 'Izzy Does It' have all been given the ax by the popular home improvement network, a fascinating new state-by-state study into the nation's most popular renovation shows indicates that they may well continue to delight fans for years to come. New research conducted by Deed Street Capital has revealed the most popular HGTV shows in every state across the U.S.—some of which remain at the top of viewers' watch lists, despite no longer filming new episodes. One such show is Chip and Joanna Gaines' wildly popular hit, 'Fixer Upper,' which came to an end in 2017 after a five-season run. Yet that show still holds a place in viewers' hearts, the Deed Street Capital analysis of Google Trends data now reveals. The mortgage note buyer delved into Google users' search patterns between June 2024 and June 2025 to see which HGTV shows were sparking the most interest—before revealing which series proved the most popular in each state. Its research revealed that Chip and Joanna's 'Fixer Upper' remains the most searched-for HGTV series in three states: Missouri, Texas—where the couple lives—and West Virginia. However, while the results revealed that tastes are very much split among different states, there was one clear winner that dominated search trends in 13 different locations, more than double any other show. The series in question? Siblings Drew and Jonathan Scott's 'Property Brothers.' 'Leading the pack is 'Property Brothers,' which earned the top spot in 13 states—more than double that of any other show,' Deed Street Capital revealed. 'Its popularity spans every U.S. region, ranking #1 in the Midwest, Northeast, South, and West, making it the most searched HGTV show in the country.' According to the research, viewers have been captivated by the show's 'mix of real estate savvy and accessible renovations,' both of which have helped it to maintain 'wide appeal' among HGTV fans. 'Property Brothers' centers around the Scott siblings, who team up to purchase and transform fixer-upper properties that are in desperate need of an overhaul. The two brothers come at the task from very different angles, with real estate agent Drew using his skills to hunt down the perfect homes and negotiate the purchase of the properties, while contractor Jonathan then oversees the dwellings' transformations. However, while 'Property Brothers' proved to be the most popular HGTV show, there were a few other standout mentions, including 'Extreme Makeover: Home Edition,' which topped the trends in five states: Kansas, Kentucky, Oklahoma, Wisconsin, and Delaware. Meanwhile, Christina Haack, Tarek El Moussa, and Heather Rae El Moussa's new series, 'The Flip Off,' found a dedicated audience in North Dakota. As for trends across the country, Deed Street Capital notes that there were some clear patterns in various areas of the U.S. 'The South leaned heavily toward shows like 'Property Brothers,' 'Fixer Upper,' and 'Home Town Takeover,' reflecting a strong cultural emphasis on homeownership, design, and Southern hospitality,' a statement issued by the company revealed. 'The West embraced lifestyle-forward and design-centric content, including 'The Flipping El Moussas,' 'Rock the Block,' and 'Renovation 911.' 'In the Northeast, traditional renovation favorites like 'Property Brothers,' 'Extreme Makeover: Home Edition,' and 'Fix My Frankenhouse' captured regional attention. 'The Midwest showcased a balance between value-driven shows, such as 'Bargain Block' and 'No Demo Reno,' and long-standing classics like 'Property Brothers.'' Pride event goes ahead despite funding concerns

A Pride event has gone ahead despite previous concerns it would have to be cancelled because organisers had failed to raise enough money. Previous Worthing Pride parades had cost about £6,000, with a main sponsor usually covering half that amount. In April, event organiser Gary Richardson said he had unsuccessfully been trying to secure sponsorship. But the two-day event returned to Steyne Gardens on Friday. The event is being headlined by Natasha Hamilton on Saturday, who is best known for being part of pop group Atomic Kitten. Louisa Johnson, who won season 12 of The X Factor, was also scheduled to perform. Hundreds attended the event in 2024, with about 500 people expected to have taken part in the parade.
