Chemsdine Talbi joins Sunderland from Club Brugge on five-year contract

The 20-year-old has signed a five-year contract after the clubs agreed a fee understood to be in the region of £19.5million.
Talbi arrived on Wearside on Tuesday and has completed a medical to join fellow new additions Enzo Le Fee, Habib Diarra and Noah Sadiki as Regis Le Bris prepares for life back in the top flight.
He said: 'I'm really excited to be here and grateful for the opportunity to play for this club.
'I made the decision because it's a great project with a talented, exciting team full of young players – and that really motivated me.
Welcome to Sunderland AFC, Chemsdine Talbi! ❤️🇲🇦

'The Premier League is the biggest and best league in the world, so I'm looking forward to getting started. I know the fans will get behind me from the start, and I can't wait to see them at the stadium.'
Talbi made 38 appearances for Brugge last season, 11 of them in the Champions League, as the club finished second by a point behind Royale Union Saint-Gilloise – Sadiki's former side – in the Jupiler League.
Two of his seven goals for the campaign came in a 3-1 play-off victory at Atalanta in Europe on the way to a 6-1 aggregate defeat by Aston Villa in the last 16.
Sporting director Kristjaan Speakman added: 'Our momentum and story are powerful, and I think players of Chemsdine's calibre, who are in high demand, are excited by the prospect of playing for Sunderland AFC.
'It's a testament to our recent past and immediate future that he feels this we are the right club for his next step.'

Man Utd forced to immediately change pre-season plans after arriving for US tour

Manchester United have flown out to Chicago for their pre-season tour of the United States, where Ruben Amorim and his coaching staff will try to whip the squad into shape Manchester United are braced for hot weather at the start of their pre-season tour of the United States. United have flown over the Atlantic to take part in the Premier League Summer Series and will have to adapt to scorching temperatures and sapping humidity. ‌ Ruben Amorim and his players trained for the first time with new signing Bryan Mbeumo at Carrington on Tuesday before jetting off America. They will face West Ham in New Jersey on Sunday before games against Bournemouth in Chicago and Everton in Atlanta. ‌ Fans will get a first look at United's new-look attack featuring Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha before they play Fiorentina at Old Trafford in their final pre-season game on August 9. Amorim will then have eight days to make final tweaks before they start their Premier League campaign against Arsenal on August 17. ‌ There is a lot of work to do – both on the training pitch and in the transfer market – but United have been forced to make changes to their plans in the US due to the weather. The Club World Cup showed just how hot it can be in North America, with matches played in dangerous conditions, and those high temperatures have not subsided. The Daily Mail says that United have taken note of the temperatures in Chicago next week, where they will play Bournemouth at Soldier Field and where they are based for training. The mercury could pass 30 degrees in the Windy City, but the humidity will make it feel much hotter and create stifling conditions for the players. United have factored this into the players' training routines and nutrition plans, with water breaks a must. United's coaching staff have certainly been warned by the much-talked about conditions at the Club World Cup. "Honestly, the heat is incredible. The other day I had to lie down on the ground because I was really dizzy,' Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez said. "Playing in this temperature is very dangerous, it's very dangerous. Moreover, for the spectacle, for the people who come to enjoy the stadium, for the people who watch it at home. The game, the speed of the game is not the same, everything becomes very slow." ‌ Enzo Maresca said it was nearly 'impossible' to train in Philadelphia last month, with temperatures at 37 degrees, but with 45 per cent humidity, which makes it feel like 45 degrees. "This morning's session has been very, very, very short, otherwise you don't save energy for the game,' he said. "It's been just about tomorrow's game, planning for tomorrow, and that's it. No more than that. As you can see, it's not easy in these conditions with these temperatures. We are going to try to do our best." 'What a turnaround' for Rangers but 'a lot still to improve'

We asked for your views after Russell Martin began his Rangers reign with a 2-0 win against Panathinaikos in the first leg of their Champions League second-round what some of you said:Fraser: Wow. I did not expect that and to quote the old cliche it was a game of two halves. We should have been two or three nil down at half-time, but for the brilliance of Jack Butland, he was my man of the match. Fingers crossed for next The first half was not great and we rode our luck, but we improved in the second half. The new signings looked decent on first We don't like it easy, do we? Good win, eventually, I'm hoping for a repeat in Athens next time What a memorable moment for 18-year-old Findlay Curtis, the youngest player in the team. Absolutely superb. What a result!David: First half was "behind the sofa" stuff but what a turnaround, helped by the Greeks going down to 10 men and completely losing their shape. The spaces we just couldn't find before started to appear and what a confidence boost the first goal gave us. We looked really good for the rest of the game. Russell Martin's possession-based game was evident and very easy on the eye. A lot of areas still to improve but very encouraging for the first Good start, we can get better when we are able to play all the It is very early days and the performance, despite the goals, was poor. The tactics in the first half with Nicolas Raskin slotting in to a left-back role was questionable. The improvement when Raskin reverted to his normal role was noticeable. Curtis did himself no harm and earned his spot in the team.

New Gallagher Premiership season to kick-off with Thursday night match... while Villa Park will also be a new venue for the 2025/26 campaign

The 2025/26 Gallagher Premiership season will begin with a Thursday night fixture while the league will also host a match at the home of Aston Villa. On the back of a record-breaking campaign in terms of attendances and television viewership, English rugby's top division is hoping to go to new heights once again. Round one will kick-off with Sale hosting Gloucester on Thursday, September 25 – the first time the Premiership, now officially known as Gallagher PREM, will host a match outside its traditional weekend slot. Thursday night matches are not set to become common. But there is one to start the new season. There are no Saturday matches in round one to avoid a clash with the final of the Women's World Cup which is being hosted by England. In a bid to attract bigger crowds, PREM matches have regularly taken place at larger stadiums including numerous football grounds in recent years. But Aston Villa's Villa Park will be a new venue for English club rugby this season, with Gloucester facing Leicester Tigers at the iconic Premier League ground on Saturday, March 28. Saracens will again play at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium while Bristol will return to Cardiff's Principality Stadium after debuting there last term. After beating Leicester in last season's final and sealing an historic treble, Bath will be favourites to seal the league title for a second straight season. Simon Massie-Taylor, chief executive of PREM Rugby, said: 'We are incredibly excited for the return of the Gallagher PREM and fans have plenty to look forward to with a number of appetising new additions to the fixture list for 2025/26. 'Kicking off the campaign with a Thursday night opener brings a fresh twist to our traditional curtain-raiser. Marquee fixtures remain a key pillar of our strategy to broaden rugby's reach. 'We're thrilled to see Villa Park host The Slater Cup for the first time and to witness the continued growth of Bristol Bears' Big Day Out in its second year. Last season was a landmark one. 'Viewership on TNT Sports rose by 28 per cent, attendances continued their upward trend and the league has never been more competitive as we saw a sixth different champion in six years, with Bath edging Leicester. 'Now with the official launch of the new look Gallagher PREM, the 2025/26 season marks the beginning of a groundbreaking and transformative new era for the sport.'
